I have the very strong suspicion that Microsoft is short of cash, ie bankrupt, the video above was a brilliant example of how not to shoot a 10 min video. unstable shaky shots, and a really truly awful over the shoulder shot.
Highly doubt it. Considering Gates is giving away all his fortune to charities. (50 billion or so)

I prefer the Windows way. It's a long way to travel, for eyes and mouse, to the top left of the screen. MacOS violates Fitts's Law.

You seen to have misunderstood the Fitt's Law. One of its implications is that edges of screen are particularly easy to acquire. In fact, the only thing you need to do is to launch the mouse pointer straight up, no vertical targeting required. The wikipedia article you quite actually explains this in quite some detail.

When you get down to it . . . that is one giant comb-over. He will look back one day and think, "What the hell was I doing?"

Yes. They are just skipping 9. Perhaps they feared a negative reaction in German-speaking markets.

Hi. German speaking person here. Can you elaborate on the "negative reactions" with regards to number 9?

I've also read that it may be the last windows ever.. imagine that, a final operating system that doesn't need to be relearned how to use but still upgradeable, personalized for each user, etc... I think they will be successful with this release especially after the windows 8 fiasco. Windows XP lasted how many years and how many more would it have lasted if they continued support. Make a system everyone likes, stick with it, make it adaptable, and provide support for it.

You're so Right!! I think Apple should so that! They have to Release an OS, let's say 'OS 10' and stick with it for at least 20 years and should only Release some updates like 10.1, 10.2, ... 10.10

Hi. German speaking person here. Can you elaborate on the "negative reactions" with regards to number 9?

9 in english sounds like 'Nein' which is translated 'NO'

My main computer is my 2012 iMac but I do have a PC which I only just upgraded to Win7 from XP. I don't see Win10 working on that old beast, 8 might even have problems.

Apps that run in a window. Apps from the Windows Store now open in the same format that desktop programs do. They can be resized and moved around, and have title bars at the top allowing users to maximize, minimize and close with a click.

Now, that's innovation.

Why should germans be negative because of a 9? :)
Apparently this Englishman must be watching Hitler on YouTube as other people kitten videos to come up with a joke like that and think it's understandable to the audience.
Am I the only one who gets the joke?
Nine, just the only one who thinks it's actually funny. Maybe try linking a video which helps others to understand what makes you so darn happy.
Nein in German means no. So Windows Nein/Windows No... it's word play but quite funny I think.
If you need to explain it, it's not a joke! Geez, the English have no humor. :p

Well at least 29 people so far understood it and liked it enough to upvote it...

I find it pretty amusing that so many people apparently didn't get my joke, wilfully or otherwise...

Certainly no offence was meant at all, it was just a pun on the fact that 'nine' is a homophone for 'nein', which meaning 'no' was the only reason I suggested it might be imagined to cause negative reaction, 'no' generally being a negative word.

In any case the joke was on Microsoft, not German-speakers, if you actually read the phrasing of it. Of course I wasn't actually, seriously (or jokingly for that matter) saying I thought German-speakers would somehow confuse the name, lol, I said perhaps "they" (meaning Microsoft) might think they would... and I was joking.

Beyond that it was supposed to be a light-hearted stab at Microsoft, because I think skipping the number 9 is a bit silly. That's all. Everyone have a nice day, I am going to prepare a funeral for my joke, now that it's been completely murdered by explanations. :D

On iPhone 6 vs Nexus 4: Welcome to 2012, Apple.
You're Welcome!

And that's with a quad-core.

I know there's a lot of MS haters here but aside from the Metro Style interface and start screen Windows 8 was rock solid. Windows 8.1 even better. And I have to say Windows 10 looks like it might be a winner when released next year.

I've been using OS X since Leopard and I can honestly say that in the last 3 years there have been more and more persistent bugs. I haven't tried Yosemite yet but I'm hoping it's better than the previous 2 releases.

I don't mind the redesign so much though I didn't really see a need for it. I'm more concerned about stability and not losing useful features that I enjoy now.

Its fine to be that guy on here who is nice to Windows as it does have some merits and yes is rock solid, but come on man don't knock OS X as well! They can both rock!

Trying too hard to be Mac OS X.

I hate to be 'that' person but I feel I need to point out that pre Apple's success, they never would have used the mid 40's Bieber hair man to advertise it... feels like they are trying to be young and hip but just really not.

On a more positive note, it does look better than the garbage they have pumped out since Windows XP.

I've always used Apple so it's unlikely that I'll change now, but Windows 10 looks like a huge leap forward for Microsoft.

Sure, There are lots of superficial features in here that will look familiar to OS X users, but the real advance is how adaptable the OS is across all of their different platforms. You've got to admit that from desktop, to tablet, to mobile, and through enterprise - it makes OS X & iOS look fragmented to some degree.

I'm not saying that it is, and I'm really happy with keeping my desktop and iPad separate, but there it is.

Move backwards (to "fix" last versions horrible implementations), don't really add anything interesting, copy some OS X feature or two (and usually cripple them horribly). Basically, classic Microsoft only taking sideways steps. That said, if it helps kill off old IE versions I'm pumped! :p

This literally all I care about

I don't think this is about taste. Heck, even now as we speak some people prefer to use Linux with KDE...

This is all about consistency. It must be very discouraging for a windows user to see his favorite OS going back and forth.

And no offense was taken. It's just that this particular homophone is only apparent to native English-speakers. Everybody else already knows they are moving in another language and need to be aware of context. Otherwise Germans would wonder, what the hell does 'Windows' even mean? However german speech recognition software might be confused with 'Windows 9' and actually mistaken it for "Windows, nein!". Which would be funny. :D
