They never lied in those ads because not a single person here defending Microsoft can prove or confirm it.

I'm sorry but are some of the people blind?

Re watch the ads, the whole "reinstall your os every month" argument was completely absurd.

The whole "buy a new computer so I can enjoy the next version of Windows" was a bigger lie.

I really don't hate to bash apple here but what Microsoft's doing is fair. It's a business operation. Apple or Microsoft (unfortunately) do not give two ***** about what the consumer has to say (if this has anything to do with above..)

Whats with Mac vs PC ad? Did apple lie there?

Yes apple DID lie with their Mac VS PC ads. It doesn't even take brains to notice

Even though the iPad has more total space the ratio would allow more image of some video types which some could like.

Based off of one direction, the tablet is bigger. They told the truth, just not the whole truth. Apple does it all the time, everyone else does too. Get over it.

It is something that just about every company does, not a fan of it because it is just too obvious anytime anyone does these things, we can do the math and see.

Some people doesn't have brain to notice that not all people saw the ad.

Oh wow, I'm so surprised about this. The gall of Microsoft to lie in an ad. No company has ever lied during and ad before, it just breaks the holy bonds between consumer and corporations. Apple has never done this type of misleading advertisement before. Screen sizes are obviously the strongest selling point for a device, and Apple has never re-cropped browsers on android devices to reduce screen space before. It's not fair at all that Microsoft re-cropped their screen size to look bigger when Apple has never done that before...

Yeah, it takes tons of financial resources to produce service packs. Oh and how funny it was that MS quickly got rid of Vista and turned it into Windows 7. The ad wasn't lying, it was true that MS was putting all their money into advertising Vista rather than sending out a solid product from jump street.

Don't let something trivial as facts stop you from worshiping the Microsoft and their sorry a$$ CEO Emballmer.

Amazing, so many Microsoft supporters and apologists on a Mac forum. Oh the irony here.

Considering you don't know that software engineers created these service packs and these software engineers don't work for free, its pretty clear you have non clue what you're talking about. That includes not knowing what the word facts mean since you haven't provided any and were just proven wrong. Perhaps you can be helpful in explaining one thing to me though... Is it true what they say? Is ignorance really bliss? You appear to have an abundant amount of experience there.

You losers have nothing better to do than to chicken fight over < 2 square inches of space? How petty your life is.

Larger is relative. It is larger diagonally, so how they are lying? How many of you have looked at a 4:3 and 16:9 TV and said the 16:9 TV was larger, when in reality the 4:3 was heavier and had more total space. Of course, no die hard Apple fan is going to admit they're wrong.
This is a discussion board, and people will discuss/argue/fight about the topic no matter what it is. Everyone has a different perspective.

They may not be lying, but they are being somewhat deceptive by being vague. It's true that the tablet is larger diagonally than the iPad, but saying the touch screen is bigger without clarification is sneaky as it will no doubt lead people to believe that the screen (overall) is indeed bigger.

Not that I really care, but that's my 2 cents.

As a media consumption device the Windows tablet definitely is bigger - widescreen movies will be larger on the Windows Tablet without any image clipping. The iPad is only those dimensions because the iPhone was made a funny size to make the keyboard easier to use, and the iPad has the same relative dimensions (right?).
As far as the ad goes it would look odd if they weren't presented taking up the same size on either side of the screen.
I thought the ad was funny. Not that I'm a fan either way.

You must have glossed over most of the thread then. Because there are quite a few people on here who are continuing to argue that the Asus whatever it is, has a larger screen than the iPad. There's a handful of those posts on every page it seems.

People like that seriously need to get a life. It's pathetic to argue over such unimportant trivia.

If people have time to argue over such rubbish then they need to take a look at themselves and spend their time doing something far more productive. The only reason I am commenting is because I'm concerned that so many people seem to have so much time to waste arguing about nonsense like this on a daily basis.

I also don't understand the point of this thread. "Microsoft Inaccurately Depicts Windows Tablet as Larger than iPad in New Comparison Ad". So what?

They said screen the screen was larger, not the diagonal. Unless you're dealing with a one dimensional "screen", a measurement along one axis is not an accurate measurement of screen size. This is taught in elementary school. They removed it because it was a false statement. As you say, the facts are clear.

It was just a PR mistake that's all. They saw a larger diagonal and used that as their marketing point. But how MS did it in the ad made people believe it was a larger total surface area.

I'm not one for defending MS but this time MS deserve it. MS I don't believe were out to intentionally mislead people. Cause 99% of screen sizes for anything, be it TV or phone or computer or whatever is advertised as the diagonal length. Just in their case they had a longer diagonal but less total surface area. If the comments in this topic are anything to go by, it's a PR disaster for MS hence the ad was edited.

Didn't Apple do something similar in the Samsung case when they wanted to show the similarities of the Galaxy and the iPhone?

That said .. slamming your opponent is bad advertising in my book. Not that was about to buy a MS tablet, but you know. I didn't like it when Apple ran the I'm a Mac campaign and I don't like it now.

iPhone used a 3:2 aspect ratio until iPhone 5 (16:9), iPad has always been 4:3 so, no.

Just like Apple did in their lawsuit against Samsung, all dicks.

You are completely missing the point. Apple didn't tell the judge "look, our tablet is bigger, you should buy it because it is bigger". Whatever Apple did in court, Samsung's lawyers were present, they were fine with it, so what Apple did was fine.

Unless you are claiming that Samsung hired total imbeciles as lawyers.

Yeah, I bet that girl thought you meant mostly length but really you meant all girth.

Actually, he was referring to his nose.

Who the heck are you to say this? People argue on these boards for all sorts of reasons. Maybe they find it entertaining. Maybe it helps them burn off their aggression. Why do you feel it necessary to hand out self-help advice? Take a look in the mirror-- what are your motivations, and why are you wasting your time, and ours, handing out advice?

When I bought my Samsung 45 inch LED TV, I could get a free tables (Samsung 7 inch something) for free..........I didn't even bother and bought a iPad mini..........that does have a smaller screen than the Windows Tables.........and I am happy with it :).

Dude you are bilnd, they also intentionally increase the picture size of the tablet relative to the iPad to sustain their lie....how obvious do you want it?

Wait and see when the iPad 5 is announced over two weeks.......

The focus of the ad is comparing the functionality of the devices, not the size nor appearance.

Shhh no one wants to hear this!!
"Microsoft has drawn a 10.1 inch tablet 36% larger than a 9.7 inch tablet (140x78 pixels vs 102x79). This is so far off you can visually see it's wrong."
MacRumors, are you serious? Who stays awake and actually figures this **** out? It's as ridiculous as the "Mac vs PC" commercials.

It's a brilliant move on Microsoft's side, and I guess this is MacRumors way of trying to deviate attention, by pointing out a petty flaw because the point of the commercial was not about screen size but functionality.

Face it folks, Steve is dead, and Apple is in need of another comeback or it will fall behind very quickly from mainstream to fanboys only.

No. It was an incredibly stupid, boneheaded move by whoever at msft signed off on an ad which intentionally graphically misrepresented its product relative to a competitors. Heads will roll. Instead of consumers discussing "functionality", everyone is discussing the sleazy advertising practice. Msft has reacted fairly quickly in an attempt to undue the damage, but you can't unring a bell--no matter how many msft apologists sling mud and post ad nauseum in attempts to cloud the issue.

Who are these consumers you're speaking of? MacRumor people? And what percentage own or really care about Microsoft anyway?

Me thinks people doth protest too much.

So the ad has been corrected and this debate is still going on?

Now THAT is funny.

Funny? Not really. I guarantee that no one at msft or the ad agency think it's funny. An ad campaign damaged (possibly beyond repair since the original deceptive practice will follow the ad) and money wasted by someone trying to be too cute and overreach. Dumb...and appearing desperate.

I have one thing to say about this entire SCREEN SIZE issue. For as long as I can remember, SCREEN Size on any monitor, display, etc, has ALWAYS been diagonal. It's not been anything else. You might look at other specs, like RESOLUTION, which can be different on the SAME SIZE display, but that is a DIFFERENT Measurement. When you buy a TV at BestBuy, Walmart, etc, it's always DIAGONAL. When you buy a monitor for your Mac, PC, etc, it's always Diagonal. When you buy your smartphone, it has always been DIAGONAL. That is what they showed in the commercial. Now, while I agree, that the over all area (RESOLUTION)is smaller, they did not lie, when they said it was bigger in aspect that for decades, every manufacture has sold screen sizes based on DIAGONAL size alone!!!!

The DIAGONAL measurements of the screens is not directly comparable because the two screens have different aspect ratios. Tell me, which screen is bigger, a 30inch 4:3 (non-widescreen) TV, or a 30inch 16:9 (widescreen) TV. Please don't say they are the same.

No, Apple said to the judge, look they stole our design, the two phone look the same, when infact they didn't (or at least not that much).

So you are suggesting it is fine to lie in court but not in advertising?

This article isn't about the video ads though, it's about this page on the Microsoft website. For some reason not linked to in the article

Because it they'd linked it the Author would have to note that Microsoft also graphically depict the HP ENVY x2 as being significantly smaller than an iPad!

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/compare#t1=hp-envy-x2

This has to be the worst article I've seen on MacRumors for quite some time. It serves no purpose apart from to stimulate an overly negative discussion of Microsoft. Arn should seriously consider moving this utter nonsense to the 'Wasteland' where it belongs.

Seems you've been talking about this all day, why do you care so much? It's only a company or product who gives a @#*&, people care too much about products and get upset when someone has a pop at their company zzzzzz.

It's an ad that's all no-ones dying here, perspective man perspective.
