I attacked you in the same way you attacked me. You either need to grow thicker skin or refrain from attacking others if you're going to cry when the favor is returned.

And 10.1 and 9.7 are measuring what? ;)

The diagonal length of the screen, not screen size ;)

To say the screen has a bigger (longer) diagonal is not wrong. To say that the screen is bigger is wrong.

This explains it perfectly.

Apple's design patents had nothing to do with size or aspect ratio. It could have been an 5 inch version or a 2 inch version. Size was irrelevant. The point of the document was to illustrate the similarities of the patented design elements.

Yes, because giving misleading slides during a trial is always more moral than having a diagram wrong and then corrected in an advertisement.

One is a Felony and can lead to perjury.

But what ever makes you sleep better at night. Apple's never done it with any of their advertising and lost millions of dollars. /s

Nonsense. It has USB. It has Windows. Printers will work.

No kidding, I've been through about 5 printers since iOS added native printer support, and I've yet to been able to print from my iPad... tho I don't really care or put much time into it since I have a computer to print from.

So I actually read the article, and it looks like Microsoft just used a little bit of zoom on the Windows tablet, so they would look more uniform? Am I understanding this correctly? And people are upset about it?

Really?

Does everyone who is upset realize that Apple used the word "New" on the Macbook Pro until they updated their MBP page for the next model? In effect, the MBP has been "New" for the last 10 years.

And you're upset about a little zoom....

LOL

No matter what one says about apple under Tim "Sculley" Cook, and I 've said my fair share, microsoft manages to still host some of the world's most colossal morons be it in marketing or in software development. What a completely embarrassing ad this is...

Shame really because we all would benefit from the competition...

Would someone be so kind and provide a link to the Microsoft advertisement so I can read it and watch it?

Yeah. Very different than that.

And how was Apple admonished by the court? They weren't. Because the size was irrelevant.

No. Not really different. Misrepresentation is misrepresentation. Apparently when APPLE does it though - it's acceptable.

And entering evidence which has been doctored was relevant considering part of their argument was that you couldn't tell one device from the other. I'd say size matters there. If the courts didn't hold Apple liable for that clearly it wasn't illegal. But that doesn't make it right. Just legal.

your kidding right? did you not pay attention to geometry class. i hope this was a joke.

He keeps arguing with me, he's serious. He honestly doesn't get it how a 12" diagonal rectangle screen has less screen real estate (size) than a square of the same diagonal dimension. Some people just don't have good logical reasoning ability so no matter how many times you try to explain a concept they just don't get it. But they usually can write good poems, hehe

I believe it's this one, although I've watched all of their recent ads and can't find anywhere where they explicitly state that the Windows tablet has a larger screen size. The best I found was a comparison spec page, which lists diagonal screen sizes of 9.7 and 10.1, respectively, although I can hardly imagine people getting so upset over using an industry standard of measurement.

10.1" is bigger than 9.7" there for saying it's bigger is in fact, not wrong.

In the UK, Apple had to remove or change adverts several times, and there was always the big howling going on about how Apple is cheating, lying, dishonest and so on.

In this situation, the Windows tablet has a larger diagonal and a smaller area. According to UK advertising standards, neither Apple nor Microsoft would be allowed to claim their tablet is "bigger". But even "larger screen diagonal" might be disallowed, because even though factually true, it would be misleading.

But since it isn't Apple doing it, nobody will be taking much notice of it.

Saw the commercial and something stood out to me. They say the ipad needs a special printer to print. Only printer it needs is a wireless printer which the Windows tablet would also need too.

Actually in iOS you really don't need an actual "wifi printer". All you need is a printer that is connected to a wireless network i.e. a printer connected via USB to a wireless router or even a computer. Using Airprint Server and other such apps on your Mac or apps on your iOS device, you can wirelessly print from your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch.

Then again if using one of the many recommended wifi printers for iOS then you wouldn't need the extra apps to print from your iOS device.

Thats not all, they also show keynote comparing to looking at a PDF deceiving people into believing there is no presentation software for the iPad.

Also the price comparison chooses the most expensive iPad to compare making it seem so much more money when in fact the iPad lineup starts at $330. Less money than the Asus. Yes the 64 gig is more money, but that wasn't Microsoft's deceiving trick.

Slimy bastards as always. I thought they have changed for the better.

No. Not really different. Misrepresentation is misrepresentation. Apparently when APPLE does it though - it's acceptable.

It seems that Apple did this in a situation where the actual size was not relevant - that was in a court case against Samsung, and if Samsung's lawyers didn't jump on it then either they were completely totally incompetent, or they new it was irrelevant and didn't even bother bringing it to the attention of a judge. It is of course up to you what you want to believe.

Yeah, and Apple always 100% honest about their ad too, right?

Just like when iPad 3 is listed to have superfast LTE in Apple Store of every country.
Just like when Apple advertise Siri to be slick and super responsive
Just like when Apple slaps staged photoshoot to advertise iPhone camera
Just like when Apple says new iMac has 0.1" thickness while it count out the bulged area

It's all the truth, Apple never lies

Not saying Microsoft is right, but that's just the world of marketing it is. Half truth and half lies. Last time I checked, holy mighty :apple: does that too.

My Brother HL2170W doesn't print wirelessly from my iPhone or iPad, and it's connected to my router via USB, and won't print that way from iPhone or iPad either. LOL

The main thing is that this looks like a deliberate decision to misrepresent the sizes. They made it look bigger, thus giving it the overall impression of being better for entertainment and productivity.

That's not cool.

Like Apple has never done anything to falsely enhance the appearance of any of there products?

YouTube: video

Thank you. That is the same ad that is on the Microsoft site. It clearly shows that the iPad is is bigger in top to bottom dimension and the Asus is bigger from left to right. I'm keeping it real basic here. I clearly see that they have different aspect ratios. I also don't hear any claims of it having a bigger screen than the iPad. I hear no mention of limited printer usability.

When I go the the Microsoft site, I see that it states the iPad needs an AirPrint printer. I take this as meaning an AirPrint capable printer. It also states display size of the iPad as 9.7" and 10.1" for the Asus. I'm failing to see where either the print or the video is lying. If there was/is another version of this ad that makes the false claims, I would like to see it. Has anyone in this thread seen a different ad and/or video making the claims that are stated in the MR article? Did Microsoft change them before release? I see lots of attacking going on in this thread and I would like to see some evidence to back it up.

There's that nagging part where Microsoft's web page says the screen on the Asus is larger coupled with the screen being pictured at 36% larger. Both those things need to change. Tablets need to be shown at scale and they need to strike the text about the screen being larger.

However, as misleading as it may be, it is Microsoft's ad. They know the majority of the public will not know the difference. Yeah, you could make an argument that Microsoft is taking advantage of us, but that is why education is valuable.

"bigger" is a loose term, so it's not inaccurate. They didn't say "surface area" right?

lol ok, so i can come out with a phone thats 1 inch by 45 inches, which would make my diagnal something ridiculous and claim my phone has the biggest touch screen? would that make you like my phone?

haha NO. if they are referring to "touchscreen size" they better be referring to surface area because on a touch screen or any screen period, what matters is how much you can touch or see.
on a 1 by 45 you'd have your 45 sqr.inch screen, but would have a hard time seeing or touching anything useful.

theres no need to say surface area it's common sense
