Yes OSX is primary reason to stick to apple.
No.2: Build quality
No.3: 2 USBs

I own the surface pro 2, use it for playing Rise of Nations only! For Everything else, Macbook Airs

No. 4: People complain about Apple abandoning older hardware, but they provide OS upgrades 3 years back on iOS and > 4years on OS X. Compare that to Samsung and Microsoft. More than likely, your hardware has been abandoned a year after release (if not sooner!).

As much as I think the Pro 3 is a great machine, this ad did not do the Pro 3 any service. Samsung ads are even better than this.

Is there any indication that these ads are actually working for MS?

All I have read is that Surface sales numbers are still not very good – with Surface not even being profitable yet.

Something they forgot: total price.
Surface with similar configurations as Macbook Air will cost around $1150-$1200. I believe a Macbook Air ($899) + iPad Mini 2 ($299) = $1198 will be chosen every time if you present the package to undecided buyers.

MS was still supporting XP until the spring and that's a 13 year old OS??

The Macbook Air already has USB and it doesn't need a kickstand. Is Microsoft just advertising the pen? Lol.

On another note, this was the scene at a Microsoft Store I passed by recently. More employees than customers.

I had a soft spot for the Surface before but after using one at work for a few months now I cannot live without one. Office 365, One Note, and the keyboard in one small package have me completely sold on the Surface.

First of all, these ads are distasteful and make me want to buy a MacBook even more. But what really bugs me is that MacRumors feels the need to post this on here. This is why you guys need to bring the down vote back again.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how this has the look and feel of both old and new apple ads - white background, side to side comparison, goofy singing like the iPhone 6 ads.

Regardless of whether this creates new sales for MS, they're eroding the magic of apple marketing.

The other thing one notices is how close minded some folks are on here (see the post above). I have both a rMBP and a surface pro 2 and there are certain realities that no one really seems to focus on. While many mention that the kickstand sucks (it does), the resolution on the MBA is horrible. Worse considering that the $300 ipad mini has a far superior screen. And also, fairly, while many people won't use a stylus, and you do have to buy a keyboard, the surface pro 8.1 is a dream to wifi project with smart tvs (or maybe I haven't figured out how to do it with the rMBP without additional apple hardware).

I DONT CARE! Seriously, this is a Apple-centered rumors site. Why do they need to advertise Microsoft's Surface ?

It's like when they post about new rival products that are released. I don't come here to learn what Samsung and Microsoft have just released. I can easily find that out from other places.

I don't care when competitors post ads against Apple. Why is this on the front page?

I have a rMBP, AirPlay works like a dream when you have the Apple TV. I use AirPlay a few hours everyday (at the office and at home). It's pretty much flawless for me. Streaming videos outside of iTunes is a snap as well using Beamer on Mac. Drag any video format and it streams in real time, best $15 App ever.

It's got a stylus digitizer for taking notes, drawing, thinking visually. For $300 I'd buy it. Too bad it's more expensive than that.

Not only is it too expensive, but have you experienced the screen lag with the surface products? It's not very good for taking notes or drawing, unless you are fine with the ink trailing far behind your stylus.

On another thought, the take away I got from the commercial was from the very first line of their "tune" (which was stolen from a real xmas song).

...I've got a Mac air, ain't it GREAT!

I have many people say that the iPad is great for consuming media and information while the Surface Pro 3 is great for creating media and information. For myself, I would have to agree with that. Being able to run real-world apps on a tablet like device is pretty nice.

I have used both the Surface Pro 2 and the 3, they are great devices!

Used or purchased? Big difference.

Screw my MacBook Air and all my programs running on it, this baby's got a USB!

D.

Maybe they mixed this up with the iPad. My Air also has a usb.

The one thing that no one seems to get is that OSX is the reason I use Apple products. I don't care if it flips backwards.

OS X plus build quality plus Unix shell plus nice keyboard plus cross product integration plus little to no fan noise.

Turning an air into an iPad is not a plus for me. If I coulf afford both it might be a plus but if I can afford a good air in the first place it's likely I can afford an iPad as well.

...said no Macbook air owner ever.

I'm an MBA owner and I am getting an SP3 for Christmas. Would have been a mac mini but Apple chose to make the updated mac mini something less than desirable... to me that is.

Weren't Mac sales up over 20% last quarter? Is this ad campaign working at all?

This doesn't make any sense. Mac sales were up 20% compared to Mac sales the previous year. Has nothing to do with Surface sales. Buying a Mac doesn't negate a sale for a Surface. The same person buying a MP could also buy an SP3 and/or a Chromebook for example.

Related but unrelated. I just got a GS5, an iP6 for my daughter's birthday, and as I said above, am getting an SP3 for Christmas. None of those were affected by an increase in Mac sales.

I like the surface, wouldn't get one yet, but it doesn't make sense why they compare it to a laptop and still call it a tablet and laptop... However, you can't put it on your lap and type, just like any other common laptop.

They should name them:

TabTop or
LapLet

but you can put it on you lap, just need a kickstand under your feet to kind of hold it in place.

I have never seen a MicroSoft store. Must not be that many of them.
