Don't bother. It doesn't work. Managed to bypass the OS requirement check for the installer and tweaked with the files in the apps. This is really stupid though. Don't really understand why Yosemite is set as the minimum requirement.

Thanks for the info! Now, I know not to waste my time.

does officially supported on machines running OS X Yosemite mean that it won't run on Mavericks at all?

First experiences: great design, easy to use. Much better than 2011 ones. Finally they released new apps, that's good.

The only con what I see is that they are slow to start
MBA mid-13

Word-11: 3.36 sec
Word-16: 11.69 sec

Excel-11: 3.06 sec
Excel-16: 6.60 sec

The speed is likely partly due to the file sizes. I found the new Word load time to be about 7 seconds, the old Word is about 2 seconds. But also, the new Word is 1.49 GB, the old Word is 56MB.

It's got to be bigger than that, there must be some shared libraries around too for Word 2011.

Probably. But here's what the Applications folder shows:

It's a preview so not fully optimised yet.

Agreed. At work we have to use Office and I utterly despise the Ribbon. Worst UI ever made by anyone on any app on any platform.
Have you set it up to suit you personally? I find it (in Office 2013) to be almost the same as the toolbars in Office 2003 and earlier. Some things were better with the toolbars, some are better with the Ribbon.

Download not opening

Anyone else have trouble opening the file once it downloads? I noticed that the file was supposed to be 2.5 GB, and I'm only received 1.35 GB.

Outlook crashes here, didnt select import function, however if you dont close out the crash submitting app and open outlook again it will stay open for a while longer and allow you to click around a bit before it crashes again.

Finally Yosemite-only!
I'm so tired of apps full of legacy code just to stay compatible with all poor people that doesn't upgrade.

It's embarrassing for Apple how much better these are in comparison to the new iWork apps. It's not even a contest.

Very nicely done programs all throughout. Can't believe I'll be using Microsoft programs on a daily basis now.

LOL. You are so funny. Do you really think Microsoft will keep it unlimited forever? Keep dreaming. Once they "rule the world" they will jack the price up as you'll have TB and TB of data out there so moving from it will be way too hard.

MS has a long history of screwing their customers without the use of Vaseline.

Want enterprise licensing for Office? You have to take Exchange (even though it's garbage) for "free". Just pay us for the server license at some astronomical rate. Oh, and we'll jack you around every year with high "re-up" costs. Where else you gonna go? And if you do go, the BSA goons will show up. There are plenty of cases of just that in the world.

Win 10 will be free. Except to Enterprise users.

MS costs per year are among the highest in the business!

If you think that MS will keep cloud storage free forever, keep dreaming! They will put limits or jack it up when they feel they can.

Sorry, it's the same old Microsoft that has been a cancer on the world for far too long!

This all may be true, but I am at the point that I'm willing to give Microsoft a second chance. It will be hard to reverse these bonuses without major backlash as evidenced by what Apple did to iWork. Apple has had 1.5 years to restore the features I used in iWork in Oct 2013. For now, Keynote is the only iWork app I use and PowerPoint is not bad at all. To save myself the headache of converting when I share files, I might even move back over to PPT.

It hurts me psychically, but I'm doing it too.

From first glance, definitely "feels" like a beta. Lots of work to do in minimising cpu usage, optimising scrolling - especially in word where it is practically unusable the way it is now, and sorting out compatibility with email accounts etc. BUT, ignoring all that, once the bugs are ironed out, there is a lot more potential here than with office 2011.

Hmmm, mine won't do that. Interesting that it still affected you without the import.

Would anyone mind MD5 or SHA1'ing OfficePreview.pkg for me? I had a bit of a bumpy download and I'd like to check my download's integrity.

Thanks for the warning on the CPU usage and scrolling. I use Word the most lately and was wondering about the experience. They'll probably fix that with the next beta upgrade.
