Sorry, but I will never use Windows O/S again. Too many bugs, constant need to patch and reboot a bloated O/S and a constant virus attracting operating system.

Same. Installed a copy in VMware Fusion to see what win 10 looked like. Not impressed. Stopped using Windows in 2006. Once on the Mac, was kicking myself for not having done it sooner.

Bwahaha. Nice try Microsoft. I'm sure your Surfaces are great, but you'll have to pay me more than that for my fully functional 2013 15" MacBook Pro. I just checked the trending price on eBay for my model and it's going for twice that $650 you're offering.

For the record, I also checked how much your equivalently specced Surface Book is going for. At only a year old, It's lost nearly half of its value... So I guess what I'm trying to say is, thanks but no thanks.

Their site is a bit confusing-it does not really make clear why certain models work and others dont(I could not find my retina 13in 2015 with 3.1 i7 16GB RAM and 512 SSD). If someone does find it please post what the trade is-I am using it right now and all parts work-it is even still under applecare.

I can say that with today's announcements. if my machine falls out of warranty and needs replacement, I will look at the darkside (I still have a mini for media/VM storage use and doesn't do much else)..

Surface Book looks cool, but the configuration I want costs $3,199. Even after trading my MacBook, I'd spend more than on the new MacBook Pro.

Surface Book with 1TB hard drive, and 16gb of ram- $3,199

MacBook Pro with same configuration- $2,599

Even if you max out the processor on the MacBook it comes out to $2,899...

Agreed. That's exactly what I thought right after they announced the new pricing.

I mean, I love Apple. They make incredible products, and I don't think they're losing their vision. It's different from Steve's vision, but that's a good thing. At least we know they're not trying to 'copy' him. It's just that they've been into money too much lately. Even worse, in countries like the Netherlands Apple products cost even more. The iPhone 7 I bought was €879 which converts to over $950. Same thing with the new MacBook Pro: entry model with Touch Bar and Touch ID costs €1999 which is around $2173 (compared to $1799). That's crazy! I know these bad regulations done by the EU aren't Apple's fault, but still... many companies actually try to keep pricing more consistent across all countries. Yet, Apple forces us Europeans to pay even more. Not just here, but in countries outside the EU as well. And we're not even getting every feature that Apple has, like Apple Pay, QuickType, that new TV app, TV Shows, Transit for Maps, News app etc.

That's so disappointing. But because I love their software efforts, I keep using it. Even I, as a network engineering student have to admit that Windows is bad. :p

At least some of that price difference is tax. The €1999 price in the Netherlands is a VAT-inclusive price, but US prices are quoted on a tax-exclusive basis. You'd typically have to add somewhere between 5% to 10% to the US base price to get the true cost for comparison, depending upon the state where it was purchased. A few states have no sales tax, however. Taking tax out of the picture, the net cost of the laptop to you seems broadly similar to the base cost here in the US.

The Microsoft fanboys here can feel free go spend hundreds more on the new Surface Books that were just introduced yesterday then. I mean, they only start at $2,399 after all.

Okay... just install a stable copy of macOS onto one of those things for me and I'm sold. :p

I have! I used Windows machines exclusively for years. I still have a Windows desktop just for running older games. But I was raised on Macs, and the Macintosh operating system, in its many incarnations, has always been more comfortable for me.

Same here. I moved to Linux in 1999, and to OS X in 2013, and haven't seen the need to touch a Microsoft product since then. I'd go back to pencil and paper before I use anything from M$ again.

I've got a great condition 2006 MacBook Pro just collecting dust and Microsoft will give me more than I could sell it for.
:(
Too bad I don't want a Surface.

To put into perspective, Microsoft didn't update their existing Surface Pro and Surface Book lineup at all, and they only added a more expensive Surface book model.

So, in essence, Apple did more than Microsoft on their portable lineup.
This actually shows the diminishing return of intel. Skylake to Kabbylake actually is only minimal improvements. Plus intel is not pushing its GPU as much as Apple would like (we can see what Apple is doing on its Ax SoCs).

Yeah, this keynote is not really a breakthrough. Was hoping for either a cheaper retina MacBook or a new super lightweight 13" MacBook (not the 2 port MacBook "Pro")

I clicked on the link just for fun. And was instantly turned off, design wise, it looks awful! Like an early 2000's free website, I am surprised there wasn't rotating 3D text.
That was the first thing that turned me off.
Then I looked up the value of my 2010 13" MBP core 2 duo and then the top of the said "i5".

Also what they offered was exactly half of real market value (eBay sales from the last few weeks.)

I would have tried out a surface 4 if I could have gotten one for a couple hundred bucks. I am curious about Windows 10, I had to use Windows 8 on my MBA at work last year and it was the worst!
(Just for the record my desktop is a Windows 7 machine. I don't HATE Windows. I just prefer mac.)

It's a good move for Microsoft. Makes their machines an exceptionally affordable upgrade compared to buying a new Mac at Apples outrageous prices.

Apple should offer a trade in option considering the crazy price tags they put on their new machines now.

Never thought it would be possible that Apple could actually make the Mac Pro's pricing seem like a steal. But, the new MacBook Pro's coming in at over $4000, and even nearing $5000 for a consumer grade laptop... Makes the Mac Pro's pricing seem petty by comparison... Never thought it would be possible.
