Cool. I received Office 2008 about a week ago and held-off installing because I read in Mactopia that they were going to release an update on this date.

Now I'll be able to have my Universal version of the program.

Not showing up in my Microsoft updater, but I just downloaded it from the Microsft KB article and installed. Everything seems fine so far.
BTW Download was 114.1 MB

Dear Microsoft,

Thank you for a completely worthless, but very large update not only did you succeed in bringing a great piece of hardware (MBP) to its knees (spinning ball and no ability to switch into other apps) you provided me with a no fixes for what most would consider the biggest problems to your new office suite. I still can not put 1 word document in 1 space and 1 in another space without them rejoining each other in the same space right after I put them there. Also thank you for NOT fixing the expose problem that puts word documents behind every other window and has no ability to bring it to the front. All I can say is thank god I got this POS for free from my school and didnt pay for it cause its crap.

Downloaded from Microsoft website, tried to install but it give me this error

"You cannot install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

It's because i didn't installed Entourage? The whole update seems to concern about this program
:confused::confused::confused::confused:

man,
I am about to drop Office for good in favor of Apple apps.
It takes sometime 3 to 4 minutes to start up the Office apps. Entourage and Word specially. I already disable the fonts WYGIWYS in the preferences. etc.

I just hate it. Any solution for this issue?
Thanks

I'm not sure if this helps, but I had installed Office into a custom location
/Applications/Press/MSOffice2008/

and it was giving my fits, so I moved it to the default location:
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/

and it all starting working fine...

No no i used the default location, and the default installation except for Entourage. I prefer to use Mail.app so i didn't installed this piece of... ehm...

I'll wait for the updater that fix the updater for fixing office.

MLSync Issue

Been waiting for this update for a month! Anyone have an idea if it fixes the ML Sync issue with mobile devices, i.e PocketMac for my wife's BlackBerry? She is ready to boot me from the house if I don't get the sync issue fixes :( I thought I was being a hero giving her the new Office, and now I'm on the couch!

This is the bullet (under the Entourage fixes) that I think does the trick - can anyone verify?

• Stability is improved when synchronizing data with devices and other applications. This update fixes an issue that causes the Sync Services component to quit unexpectedly while synchronizing calendar and contact information to iCal, to Address Book and to mobile devices that are connected through iSync or iTunes.

Thanks guys...!

i uninstalled office 2008 a couple days ago to switch back to 2004.

here's a question though, would i be able to install ONLY entourage 2008, while keeping word & excel 2004?

I don't see any mention of fixing the "although Office 2008 is universal, it takes significantly longer to start up than any previous version of Office running under Rosetta" problem... :D

I bought Office 2K8, but find myself using Pages and Numbers pretty much exclusively.

Interesting question, under the old install method (drag and drop the office folder from the CD to the Applications folder) I certainly think you could.

With the new installer in Office2008, it might replace the files. If you try it please be sure to let us know, I'd be interested in knowing.

Dear valued customer,

Yeah but we only had about four years to develop it

I ran auto update and found an update for Office 2004 but none for 2008, weird. AutoUpdate for Office doesn't even work right for me. I have it set to check weekly and it might alert me of an update once every six months, even though multiple updates will have been released prior.

That's because there are 2 AutoUpdaters, one for Office 2004 and one for Office 2008.

my 2003 iMac 1.25ghz 768 ram opens word 2004 almost twice as fast as my 1.83 c2d 4gb ram mini ~ what a joke.

PS.. the last remaining minute of the office 2008 update seems be more than a minute - more like 10.

Am I the only around that actually does think that Office 2008 is better than 2004? IMHO many things are much easier to find than before and I believe that my productivity is higher than when I needed 10 minutes to find how change a certain setting...
My Blackbook also doesn't need more than 9 to 10 seconds to start any of the apps which is fine for me.

It takes 3 to 4 minutes to load Entourage and Word 2008.
I have a MacPro Octo 2.8 with 10 gig of RAM.

My old Office 2004 would take 5 seconds or less.

Man I hate Micro **** !

You can do custom installs and just pick pieces (let's say you only want Excel and Entourage on one machine). Just click on the Customize button to switch to custom install.

There is no option to replace any files with the Office 2008 installation; it asks you if you would like to remove previous versions of Office, but this is optional, and since each folder has a different name ("Microsoft Office 2004" and "Microsoft Office 2008" you can have both installed. I have both in my MacPro and they get along well ;-)
