Microsoft’s cloud services are killing it. Good on them.
Professionally, I just switched from Google’s G Suite to Office 365 and couldn’t be happier.

Which is wild to me, because I've had nothing but problems with OneDrive. In my experience it's inferior in every single way when compared to iCloud.

I think 2019 will be interesting for Apple now their pattern of success is starting to prove to be an unreliable formula. They can't just keep releasing more expensive products and not introduce any real new innovation and then expect they will always have a smash hit that keeps the investors happy.

This is where Tim Cook will have to prove his merit. Can hey help drive a new era of Apple success that did not begin with a product blessed by Steve Jobs or will he start to cause the company to circle the drain trying to do the same thing over and over and over again and not adapting to changing markets and consumer mindshare.

It's way to early to say anything about Apple for the long term, but the last quarter of this year has been very tough and unexpected from a company that just got used to crazy growth and success.

In the meantime Microsoft quietly snuck up and figured out how to move past Windows and their failed mobile products to drive a new era of success for themselves.

Yep, the current strategy of fewer common ports, smaller batteries, lower performance, thinner profile, and higher cost is just not the slam dunk Ive/Cook were planning on. Guess a finance/supply chain guy is not the best person to be making decisions right now.

How about we worry more about what value these companies are bringing to the world and all its conscious inhabitants, instead of some silly headlines that are namely important to wall-streeters and stock market investors?

Really a load of hyperbole this post. Although it is your opinion, are you going to be crying when Apple rockets back toward $1T?

No but I'm going to be crying when Apple releases the XR2 with 1080p LCD and 4 GB RAM for $949 in 2019

SIM card tray sold as an optional $129 extra

Did I miss someone(s) posting that “Apple is doomed” in all these posts? How about “Apple’s been on a downward slide since Steve died.”

I’m sure I did, but I really don’t care. All businesses have peaks and valleys - it’s how they plan for the valleys when they’re riding the peaks.

I will be increasing my position on Apple during this valley.

And after hours they tanked again due to comments about tariffs on iPhones - big headwinds....
This is a terrible decision with a 10% tariff on iPhone.

The Chinese will wait it out if necessary and our economy will suffer. I don't even think Apple will suffer much. It will be a tax on the consumer. If it's a 10% tariff, Apple may take 3-5% of it and pass along the rest.

"Tank" is a strong word. It's down about 1.5%, or basically giving up today's rally. It's down 25% from the high, but all the FAANG stocks and NVDA, AMD, and others have been crushed.

For iOS then yes I would agree but it all boils down to preference. If you or someone else prefers and likes Apple and iOS then you have choices. But as a general rule, Apple is not the best value and really top tier. Other phone mfg are producing some really slick stuff with nice specs. Sure it's Android but that boils down to preference.

I recently purchased a space grey color Huawei Mate SE, it's super fast, is carrier unlocked, has dual SIM, has a really nice Audio Codec along with a built-in FM Radio, FHD+ 5.93" screen and came with a free clear soft silicon case. The phone looks and feels like any premium iPhone. It cost me $229.

It’s about as equivalent to buying a pizza at that gives you more toppings for your money. That cheese is at the bottom of the barrel, probably loaded with hormones. Used well water instead of distilled, and the meat is the cheapest cuts they could find. Not incredibly good for your health, probably give you a stomachache later. Apple uses the best ingredients and it’s actually healthier. Sure some people like and even prefer well-water NY style $1 slices, and so do I - but what’s actually better?

You don’t know what your getting into with a company like Huwei or htc, ridden with software and hardware backdoors make it a questionable choice for any business/government professional trying to protect data or cryptocurrencies.

I think you should start arguing once you are off your allowance and start making your own money or once you start needing to shave. Whichever happens first.

Even somebody making way more than needed to afford Apples products probably has people working at his/her company who can‘t. Does not make them lesser people and certainly does not warrant being laughed at for thinking 749$ is a lot. It is a lot for someone making only a couple of grand per month which holds true for the majority even in the United States.
Seen this with so many of the agencies I’ve worked with. They try to be clever and cut costs using android phones and tablets. Not only do they not last as long, but there is a host of issues that I’ve personally experienced at dozens of events with non functioning devices that don’t work, have issues, or just have spent too much time troubleshooting. Eventually they come to their senses and buy all Apple.

In the end, Apple products cost less in the long run...without the hassle. They are more secure, reliable, and last longer - and important value proposition for not only the consumer, but any businesss or government professional.

This.

I was contemplating a new Apple laptop and became frustrated with their pricing and model segmentation. Even when spending a mint I then still need to spend another bucket to get storage that was merely acceptable in 2010. Then I’m still faced with artificially created port shortage without upgrading further. Even then I can no longer perform the upgrades I’ve done in the past that keeps my system relevant. This is where I see value. On top of all that we’re seeing laptops with a high rate of keyboard failures yet Apple persists with the design.

I just voted with my wallet and upgraded my hdd with an ssd on my old system and will keep going with that. I wanted to spend the money but enough is enough. If the bottom needs to fall out to compel change then so be it.

Same here. I was considering an ipad and the saw the prices the minute i added the lowest priced one to the cart! Like are you kidding me??? $800 for a low-entry iPAD without cellular and with only 64GB??? I can find a laptop for less money. I immediately abandoned my cart afterwards. I cant justify spending that much money anymore. I'll stick with my trusted macbook air from 2012 and iPX for a couple more years...smh

Thing is, if it happened with Apple only 5 in 100 would know anything about it

Thing is... Windows 10 install base is a bit lower than iOS install base. If Apple’s iOS update would delete people’s personal files with no way to recover, we would have riots in Cupertino.

You know who I'm worried more about spying on me? My own Gov't, not Huawei and based on my Gov't's track record they'll just about do and say anything when someone else doesn't want to play ball with them on it's terms. So Huawei is not my worry here but instead the NSA, FISA, CIA and FBI who have morphed into George Orwell's 1984 wet dream

Keep jumping up the prices for new devices by 30% every year while offering little in return and see who else will pass Apple by, Timmy.

Trying to sell a device with 64GB of storage that is unable to use external drives as "your next computer" :D

What issues did you have? OneDrive has been great for me.

Nothing to worry about. Just coast. The iPad Pro is running an old 2008 phone software with a mobile phone browser as it’s only option exactly where Scott Forstall left it. Why bother messing with it when Apple can just make the fonts skinnier are brighter and more colorful.

Just coast and go with the flow nothing to worry about. Microsoft did that under Balmer. Blackberry did that. Nokia did that. Xerox and Intel did that. Everything will work out fine. No need to worry as long as you have a an old bread and butter product to fall back on.

The two Microsofts of the world, jockeying for position in the only category that matters to them anymore.

I can't afford to play in Apple's world anymore. Cost of living has gone up too much and my salary hasn't kept up so luxuries like Apple stuff are going the wayside. I hate to say it because I've always loved their stuff, but I think my next laptop will be a PC and my next phone will be a droid. It's been nice while it lasted.
You'll find PC and droid play real nice. You can still answer calls, recieve and send texts using either the pc or droid.

Funny, we're on O365 and are planning on switching over to G Suite. $10 all in per user just can't be beat.

Guess you haven't read about the October patch release fiasco Microsoft is going through right now. As much as I'd love to switch from Apple to keep them grounded (or at least to tell myself I'm not tied to them), the other side is certainly not greener.

Microsoft is improving as a company. MacOS is still leaps and bounds better than Windows as software. You can only clean out so much legacy cruft without a clean start (like OS X did).

However, I will say: Microsoft is pushing forward the envelope of Windows laptop hardware design with the Surface. Meanwhile, Apple is pushing their premiums higher and higher. It's frustrating. I like OS X much, much more than Windows but I increasingly feel fleeced as Microsoft narrows the gap in hardware quality while Apple raises the prices.

Nothing collapses faster than a fashion company that suddenly becomes uncool

Apple's earnings are based purely on people currently being willing to pay massive premiums for name recognition, not the quality of products

Hear hear! Not to mention, Apple's on-going disdain for their Power users (content creators) has eroded an important pillar in the support structure that kept them going during hard times. I don't believe it will come to it, but should Apple truly fall on hard times they may yet come to regret that decision.
