"a lighthearted poke"

Kind of like how beating someone over the head with a bat and spitting on them is like a playful jab.

Nope, they werent. Watch the ads, the PC was the product, the PC had viruses and was slow. No PC user was mentioned.

YOU need to watch them again. Consider the casting of the 'PC' and the 'Mac'.

It was also clearly meant to represent who uses them. If you're unable to acknowledge that, there's nothing I can do for you.

1. You and three dozen others (when I clicked on "quote") of our forum members agree with the ad? Talk about iSheep.

....

I could go on, but game over. ;)

Yes and Apple won big time. Like to see you do better. Apple knows that selling cheap-ass phones to a cheap-ass market is diminishing returns. Go back to Wal-Mart and your Big Macs.

Can you give me an example of a "new body style" other than a bigger screen ?

iphone-5-design.jpg

This is a beautiful and slick design

Linux/android beats WP8, WP8 beats symbian, symbian beats blackberry, blackberry beats flip phone, flip phone beats iCrap.
Get an apple computer, not an apple phone!

Any company or individual who releases closed software is harming everyone on earth. Those companies or individuals should be hated, instead they are loved, because they rip off open source software, to create their own trashy software, what microsoft did was to first sell PC manufacturers their junkware, and then once most people were used to using windows, forced the PC manufacturers to use windows, and never use any open source operating systems. Apple has always made their junkware closed source, and are just as bad as microsoft. Together, those two evil companies infect 99% of personal computers on earth with their junkware.

Most animals (including humans) will automatically hate anything they are not used to, or is uncommon for their societies, homosapians who do that are not even considered humans to me, and they defiantly do not fit their species name, sapian, maybe they should be called homoidiotus. That is where the Linux and Mac hate comes from, it is also where racism, sexism and discrimination comes from. It comes from nonpeople.

Once again... Microsoft makes commercials that offer so little compelling content... that your eye is automatically drawn to the iPhone in the shot. Thanks Microsoft!

Just like the Surface commercials that show the iPad and lets us hear Siri's iconic voice... these ads show the iPhone and only the iPhone. And the characters spend most of the time talking about the iPhone.

And these are supposed to be Windows Phone commercials?

(yes I know they are just Youtube videos... but the point still stands)

But wait a minute... I thought Apple only had 13% market share in smartphones. So what are the commercials even about?

I would say Android is the enemy...

I dont see the Steve Jobs and Jonny Ives 'lookalikes'?? I think people are reading too deep.
The video seems a bit amateur and maybe one or two of the points raised are too true for real Apple fans to bear...

1. Apple has convinced the fan base that plastic is some new super awesome material!!
2. You will have the screen size that we at Apple decide...

3. And we will charge whatever we want......because we've convinced you we can!

Roll on iPhone6 and hopefully a larger screen

This is embarrassing. That minute and a half was painful. That didn't look anything like Tim Cook. Whoever approved this has no taste, especially since they brought someone who looks like Steve Jobs into it.

This vid is just awful. I hate this kind the most. Speak-cut-speak-cut. Bombard the listener with pulses of keyword that make you think the phone is bad. Why don't you say it MS, like "Our WP phone is better in many way for example ..."
No style at all. Like a desperate vid from a near bankrupt company, no ads design, no message to customer, just bashing. You are disgraceful MS. :(

I thought the videos were pretty funny. No reason to get all butthurt over them which isn't too suprising because i really think some people have formed an overly while disturbing emotional connection to their gadgets.

The things you own end up owning you - Tyler Durden. Totally describes some people.

While i agree that it is super lame by Apple to release last year's phone with a cheaper plastic shell and still charge super high for it, cause you know, now its "new" cause it has different plastic shell colors, this ad is one of the worst i've ever seen and it is so obvious they'd have to pull it, whoever greenlit it should be fired right now.

Like seriously, put a guy there to sorta look like Steve Jobs from the back? How disgusting is that?

And even besides that tasteless point the ad is not funny at all, nor does it even bring the point across well.

And the worst of all, seen from MS stance: Windows phone OS sucks compared to both Android and iOS and this ad does zero to convince one to get a windows phone OS running phone.

Sassy article wording, but now that I've watched the video, I get it. I don't really see what's so terrible about having Steve Jobs as the Apple CEO in the video (other than the fact that he is not even alive, so it doesn't make sense), but the rest of the video was just bad. I think the Microsoft marketing team is trolling to get publicity rather than advertising at this point.

And if these videos were done by collegehumor no one would have anything to say about them.

Seriously, if that is supposed to be steve jobs, whats the big deal?

Yep, it's hilarious. I don't see anyone crying that we parody other dead people. It's not like they are making fun of his sickness or his death, I don't see any poor taste in that at all. Disclaimer, I haven't seen the videos, I'm just assuming they are making fun of his style and decisions.

No, it was just some high-level Apple employees messing around and saying things like "We're going to make the iPhone plastic to save money." Even misleading things like implying that the 5S is made of plastic and that that fact is hidden from the consumers. Then a bunch of other things that didn't even make sense.

YOU need to watch them again. Consider the casting of the 'PC' and the 'Mac'.

It was also clearly meant to represent who uses them. If you're unable to acknowledge that, there's nothing I can do for you.

"Hello, I'm a Mac."
"And I'm a PC"

It was spelled out at the beginning of each commercial that these were anthropomorphic representations of the platforms. The choice of casting was quite obviously to make PCs/Windows look bloated and Macs streamlined.

This is not even a little funny.

The reason Microsoft is no longer in the game is because it was never creative. They were always one step behind Apple when it came to original thinking. This is not even remotely funny! I've seen a hundred better parody videos on YouTube on Apple and the iPhone. Sorry Microsoft, but you have some serious work to do in the creative department if you want to survive the next 5 years.

I don't know about you younger folks, Im 65, I found this VERY offensive, I was incensed looking at the back of Steve Jobs head,(actor) ,the poor taste exhibited
By MS, just made my blood boil, thoroughly Disgusted!
Whomever authorized this should be immediately fired, to pass it off as good natured kidding at our friends in Cupertino, is a reaction to the stupid decision to run with it in the beginning, and now trying to fluff it off. Madness, just Madness!

1. Apple has convinced the fan base that plastic is some new super awesome material!!

How so, just because it costs more than other plastic phones. If Apple is so confident they should continue IP5 production, very few will buy IP5C. Just like iPad mini ate into iPad4 sales, both IP4S and IP5C are going eat into IP5S sales and margin. Wall Street doesn't like dwindling profits.

I gotta agree with the ad. What the hell has Apple been doing the last 6 months? But unfortunately, the iPhone 5C/S will not flop. People will once again line up in droves. I don't understand it. They're not bad phones, but their not innovative.

What I fail to understand is why Microsoft keeps doing ads which completely fail to show why their product is superior to Apple's iDevices. Whether or not the new iPhones are "not innovative", that definitely is a matter of opinion, and I'd tend to disagree with you there, but here's the thing, they don't have to be in order to be successful. Ultimately, in customers' eyes, the 5C and 5S are a better version of last year's, or two years prior, models. That is all that matters.

Bottom line is, the iPhone/iPad don't suck. Nowadays, most flagship Android devices don't suck either. This makes Microsoft's job converting customers that much harder, and their strategy to berate their competition in ads DOA. iDevices' customer satisfaction is through the roof; Android's is not too shabby either, albeit visibly trailing Apple's. Microsoft ads have to show in what way(s) their product is superior. Samsung has done just that, and look how successful they are, but Microsoft just doesn't seem to get it.
