I gotta agree with the ad. What the hell has Apple been doing the last 6 months?

What has Microsoft been doing for the past 6 *years*?

But unfortunately, the iPhone 5C/S will not flop. People will once again line up in droves. I don't understand it. They're not bad phones, but their not innovative.

Because they love the product. Something that Microsoft and Samsung will never, ever understand--delighting customers.

Nah, no they didn't. You couldn't be more wrong. Microsoft isn't even promoting their own product here, they are just talking crap and insulting Apple's customers. The Get a Mac ads talked about the current issues with Windows (which was 100% spot on) and gave good reasons why a Mac would be a good choice.
Microsoft is going down. The iPad trade-in program plus these ads show they can't innovate, they are desperate, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel at last attempts to get that loser Surface into the hands of anyone who cares and trying to force Windows 8 down people's throats and that's just rude. And here's the funny part, while Microsoft is trying so hard to screw over Apple, Apple's default search engine on iOS 7 is now BING. Go figure.

I disagree completely.

----------

The Mac vs. PC Apple ads weren't always strictly accurate and in that sense were frustrating to PC users (I was one at the time). But they were never vindictive. In fact they made the PC guy a sympathetic character.

The Mac vs PC ads, like them or not, went on for years and we're highly successful. Microsoft pulled these after a few hours. That ought to tell you something.

The "Macs are great for fun stuff and PCs[sic] are boring and only used for spreadsheets" was as vindictive as this advert.

That is, a little bit and nothing to lose sleep over. Some of the offence being taken by certain fanboys is nothing short of comical.

----------

So you don't consider portraying a dying of cancer, and now dead, CEO and founder of the other company in an advertisement vindictive? You must be in politics ;)

It would be vindictive IF they made some sort of issue of his cancer. They didn't.

----------

Do the Nexus phone and tablets have SD cards? How about HTC One?

Do HTC or Google offer a 16GB upgraded model for £80 more? No.

Ok, I don't really think the ads are offensive, just a bit lame and not really funny.

It's weird that Microsoft has consistently gone after Apple and not Google in these kind of videos.

Google's customer base seems much closer to Microsofts than Apple, maybe that's why these kind of suck? Microsoft doesn't know what demographic to go after anymore.

Agreed. You'd think you'd go after users of the flakier ecosystem. Apple's users are pretty entrenched.

What are you expecting the phone to do? Make you toast? I don't think some of you will ever be satisfied. You've grown jaded and don't really seem to understand all the technology that has been smashed together in such a small device. It's not just a telephone anymore, it's bluetooth, motion sensing, wireless, music, videos, web browsing, digital camera, video camera, streaming, the ability to face time with someone halfway across the planet by pushing a button, GPS (you know ... satellites that are orbiting the earth in space at 7,000+ mph are able to tell you where you are on the planet by the little device you hold in your hand), among other things.

I think some of you are just being negative to be negative. You take for granted the amazing things we have available to us in this day and age.

1st world problems.

Thank you

There is nothing wrong with that video. Its funny-accurate. What, you don't think apple strategizes about how to extend revenue streams. The only thing questionable is the gaunt Jobs figure.

If an advertisement seems too good to be true (Learn a new language in 10 days!) then it's good to avoid it. Advertising like that really bothers me.

Yeah, I just always use AdBlock anyway and never use web browsers in the VM. I think it was from stuff I installed and accidentally left some checkbox on to install other software, and that software opened vulnerabilities. Or there was something in the files I sent to the VM. It wasn't a big deal because I was just using that VM to run random little applications that were only made for Windows (before I knew about WINE).

----------

Apple will never add sd slots to their devices.

Why allow people to buy a 16GB SD card for when they can sell a 32GB model for more than the 16GB version.

Apple should really supply lube with the higher capacity iPhones and iPads

I said that I would like an SD slot in an iPad instead of having internal storage that can't be upgraded, but then someone here showed me the transfer speeds. I was unaware that SD card transfer speeds are MUCH slower than the internal storage, though I had checked before and thought they were about the same. That would make the device annoyingly unresponsive.

Not even funny. Didn't love for a single second there. Nope, MS. Nice try (sarcasm can be nice and good ads can be hilarious - se VW with the Darth Vader kid for example) but this one...

Microsoft is pathetic

they should worry more about getting out of the hole they are in rather than posting stupid anti-Apple videos

That's not the price of the phone - that's the price you get from the providers after all the subsidies. At least in Europe, the phone itself (and yes, that's relevant as most providers here don't subsidise as heavily as those in the US) has been getting more and more expensive.

I may be wrong, but hasn't the off-contract base model stayed consistently at $649 in the US since it became available off-contract? If so, I'm curious why Apple would raise the prices outside the US only. Would it have to do with import tarriffs or mandatory 2-yr warranties?

And that makes it right? It's tasteless end of story. Microsoft acknowledged this by pulling the ads. Comparing Mac vs PC commercials as an argument to justify these tasteless ads is moronic. Furthermore, Microsoft pulled the ads which means they recognized the err in their ways, sadly, some folks on here don't get it.

they pulled the ads i assume because of the backlash. apple has pulled ads because of backlash

i have no idea why you are quoting my post. i never compared this ad to the mac vs pc ads or anything like that.

i found the ad incredibly dull and pathetic but i certainly dont see it as the end of the world.

So let me get this straight...you have no problem with a company poking fun at their competitors DEAD CEO. Gotcha, hope that insensitivity gets you far in life.

The media you mentioned was not in direct competition with Apple -- oh and he wasn't dead. We've all seen people recover and live long lives after being diagnosed with cancer and I believe (with his warchest of money) we all believed he would survive with the best care a human could have. To have someone represent Jobs, post death, especially in a "humorous attempt" is plain wrong, distasteful and whoever was associated with it should be fired.

how exactly are they poking fun at steve jobs. i just didnt see that. perhaps you can show me where that happened? or is the mere showcase of the back of his head a tasteless joke?

the post i quoted said dying of cancer.

sorry i didnt know you could have had all these different conditions on when its alright to poke fun of men that are dying of cancer. he was turning into nothing in front of the whole world. it was obvious what was going on.

i think its distasteful to make fun of people who are dying but how is showcasing someone sitting in a chair listening to people "poking fun"?

its no worse than some of the people on here mentioning missteps jobs took to justify the dullness of tim cook

Proof that MS employees need to take a trip to Disney World...

If these Microsoft employees would take a page from Disney they would understand what world class customer service is about. Go to Disney World and see if an employee ever talks in any way shape or form about Universal... They never say a word about it, they just want you to have a good time while you are there. Now go to Universal Studio, all universal employees do is take verbal low blow shots at Disney.... You know the difference between the two parks is? Disney waters their grass to keep it green and soft, Universal Studios paints their dead dry grass green so when you step on it, it crunches.

What has caused these companies feel the need to take low blow shots at each other to win customers? Quit talking about competitors and impress us with your own actions/products. They are all becoming like the obnoxious person at the bar who tries to downplay others there to try to make himself look better and increase his chance. After working in night clubs through college I can tell you the person that does that goes home alone and bitter. The person who loves everyone and says nothing bad about others leaves with a group of people and always is popular.

Just how responsive do you need the internal memory to be if you are playing back video footage, or music, or anything else.

I have never found the use of an SD card on a device to make anything unresponsive in any way.

"The video was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino. But it was off the mark, and we've decided to pull it down."

I have difficulty understanding why it is ok to sling mud rather than boast about the product being sold. It makes it difficult to want the product and makes me think the people selling the product are afraid it is inferior to the one they are slinging mud at. Same goes for politicians.

Those videos were just desperate and pathetic. And it shows yet again that Microsoft are still unaware that the biggest threat to them is Google. Microsoft fans are unlikely to switch to Apple products, but a lot of them are very happy to use Google's offerings.
Microsoft is at the moment obsessed with little attacks on Apple in their advertising campaigns. The problem is MS seems to be a stranger to comedy and common sense. These little digs just come across as bitter, pathetic, ignorant and detached from reality.
The biggest problem is that they are trying to make fun of things they are so bad at. Remember the brown Zune, the overpriced Surface, the forgotten Kin......?

huh? what product was being sold?

Just to be clear: The attitudes in CA Disney, on the whole, are poorer than the ones at FL Disney. They are two different companies, internally, and run a bit different. I don't know if it is just how CA is compared to FL or if it is because FL has a more international workers. Both have a similar experience but FL wins out overall. Many people mix up World for land. For those that have only been to CA it is good to know the distinction.

Yes more companies should emulate the FL Disney theme park experience. They have mastered the marketing circle.

Microsoft has posted seven new videos to its Windows Phone YouTube page, as part of a new series it calls 'A fly on the wall in Cupertino'.

The ads purport to show iPhone 5c and 5s product pitch meetings with characters that bear a striking resemblance to Steve Jobs and Jony Ive, though the Jobs-esque character is called Tim several times.

YouTube: video
If the executive in the videos is intended to resemble Steve Jobs, then they would appear to be in very poor taste. It's not at all clear how the videos -- which don't ever explain how Windows Phone is better than iOS -- help Microsoft achieve its stated goal of getting users to switch to its platform.

- A fly on the wall in Cupertino
- A fly on the wall in Cupertino: Colours
- A fly on the wall in Cupertino: Polycarbonate
- A fly on the wall in Cupertino: Innovative materials
- A fly on the wall in Cupertino: The phone for everyone
- A fly on the wall in Cupertino: Fingerprint reader
- A fly on the wall in Cupertino: 8-megapixel camera

Update 12:42 PM PDT: Microsoft has pulled the videos from YouTube. The video embedded above is from a backup a viewer saved.

Microsoft gave this statement to The Next Web: "The video was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino. But it was off the mark, and we've decided to pull it down."

Not sure why everyone here is so butt hurt. Seems pretty funny and accurate. I think the misunderstanding comes from some people believing they are making fun of Steve. But I didn't get that at all. I thought it was pretty amusing.

I'm gonna say it one more time in case anyone important is listening.
We dont want or need our computing companies to be hip. Quit trying so damn hard to be hip!
We want them to be reliable.
Quit mistaking the hip young people working at successful companies for the CUSTOMERS that buy the products of successful companies.

But yeah the 5c colors are awful.
And this ad was a little too Office meets Parks and Rec.
(see above)

This is a really great ad. Don't you see? They already have a big success!

The reaction of the iSheep is simply ... priceless.
