Ha! Um micro SD cards are pretty modern. But whatever. I'm glad you found your pasture to meetup with other iSheep.

Geez. I just can't win with you people. One day I'm being called an Apple Hater, a Samsung astroturfer, and now...an iSheep. WHY DO YOU ALL HAVE TO SAY THE WORDS THAT HURT?

:runs away crying:

:slams door:

The M7 chip does things previous A chips couldn't do and required the accelerometer for. More chips = more energy required. But nice try.

Not necessarily. A CPU running at 80% is less efficient than having it running at 40% alongside a weaker dedicated processor better at handing certain specific tasks. Depending on how its all set up, those two chips working together could be consuming less power overall than if the CPU were doing everything itself.

It's like how handing off video processing to the GPU is much more efficient than if the CPU were doing it all alone. You'd think having two powerful, power hungry chips working together would drain the battery that much faster, but nope. Since the GPU is better suited at handing video than the CPU, it doesn't have to work as hard to render them, and therefore doesn't require nearly as much power. The end result nets you smoother playback and saves you a good bit of battery life.

I'm a bit too anchored in reality, would you be so kind as to tell me what is an astroturfer?

Astroturf is artificial grass used in sports such as a football field. So essentially, a Samsung "astroturfer" would be someone playing for team Samsung. :] Just a Samsung fan, basically.

...I don't know what you're talking about. I make no claims to the validity of your statement pro or con. I am not here. o_o

You know that thing we do around here that Samsung pays us in Hotpockets for? That's astroturfing.

Same thing with the whole 16GB Cost $199 and 32GB cost $299, 16GB of flash storage does not cost $100!!! Stop it Apple this is 2013! Androids have mini SD for expandable memory, meanwhile people are paying an arm and a leg just for a 16GB iPad.

The difference is, Apple control purchases through the pricing of additional storage. If they released a phone with a microSD card slot and said "There you go - install as much memory as you want", they would profit less on the 32GB and 64GB models. That is where a lot of there money comes from; fictional value.

So why $100? Because if it were only $50 (for example), no-one would by a lower capacity model.

It's just a sales tactic, and it's become even stronger now that iMacs and MacBooks have SSD.

Got it. I should have been able to figure that out on my own, but......

Some of you guys are lucky to get paid to be here. I'm here free of charge.

I love it.

It is so cool, I will never buy their product. Thank you Microsoft. I just love quality products Apple :D

An astroturfer is someone who is paid to be a fan, that's where the fake grass reference comes from since astroturfing is faking a grassroots movement. It's not real grass but fake.

Ahh, okay. That makes even more sense. :-0

IF it was Microsoft's intent to mock Steve Jobs, that would be in quite poor taste, IMO. Cook and Ive are fair game.

Sure, but it only works if its funny. And maybe get someone that looks like Cook and Ive? Also, all these companies obsessing over Apple seems a bit ridiculous. If you want to prove that Apple is over or no longer cool wouldn't the best way be to ignore them. I'm sure the execs in Cupertino are laughing their asses off at how much other companies still focus on them. And as far as Microsoft goes, wouldn't attacking Android be a better play since there's a larger user base and probably one that would be easier to convert as they're probably not as tied to the Android/OEM brand?

Can someone cut me in on these checks for astroturfing? I'll say anything you want about the iPhone 5s for a slice of that Apple pie :)

Whether it was funny or not is immaterial. For some reason, they only chose to show the back of the head, and it was two different people in the video.

I feel your pain, Mate. I know how these mean words can hurt. :(

I'm here for you...

I know Microsoft is an American company, but I think this highlights the main difference between the american and the british sense of humour, we enjoy having the piss taken out of us as much as giving it, I hate what balmer has done to Microsoft so have totally moved over to Apple over the last few years and love it. This video was actually pretty funny though. "MegaPixels, We've got them down to 8" (*troll prevention* yes I know it will take an awesome picture and its not all about the MP, its just funny)

Ahh, the fanboy comments. When you have nothing it always reverts to calling people "fanboys." Disappointing.

But I see you agree that Microsoft was portraying a sickly Steve Jobs despite, wink wink, calling him "Tim". If I were a Microsoft 'fanboy' I'd be very disappointed with them for doing something so crass. Apple should be held to the same standards too.

No offense was taken from this ad. It was too pathetic, even without the Steve Jobs low blow. Just a bunch of FUD that enlightens no one.

No, they portrayed Steve Jobs - or a figure that looks like him. His health is irrelevant to the video.

Were Apple tasteless when they let a sickly Steve Jobs take the stage at numerous events? Of course not.

Apps and system launching. Playing back HD video real-time also can't be done on SD cards sometimes. What device were you using that had nothing but an SD card as its drive?

I didn't say I had anything that had nothing but an SD card.

I have had numerous devices with internal memory AND an SD card. I always stuck my media on the SD card and apps etc on the internal memory. I had zero perceptable slowdown with that.

What a ridiculous statement. Jobs was the CEO, he did WTF he wanted. It wasn't Apple forcing him on stage and they didn't have the say whether or not he could or could not do keynotes unless he was 100% incapable. Please stop the hating here. You're getting tiresome. ;)

As used here I believe it comes from an attempt by an organizations to make their paid for supporters appear to be a 'grassroots' movement. Thus Astroturf, artificial grassroots movement. It was originally applied to political demonstrations that are organized and paid for by one side or the other.

Yeah, I just always use AdBlock anyway and never use web browsers in the VM. I think it was from stuff I installed and accidentally left some checkbox on to install other software, and that software opened vulnerabilities. Or there was something in the files I sent to the VM. It wasn't a big deal because I was just using that VM to run random little applications that were only made for Windows (before I knew about WINE).

It probably was vulnerabilities then. That's more than often what virus makers do, they exploit them. It's usually the fault of the software makers (as most of the software vulnerabilities come from external software you installed) rather than those who build the operating system. Internet Security programs such as Kaspersky can scan for these vulnerabilities.

All you hardware spec guys just don't get it.

Imagine if you installed an astro turf football field at the local high school. Then, the rival high school was like " HAY! LOOK AT HOW ****ING BIG OUR LAWN MOWERS ARE!"

Wouldn't you be like "why on earth am I interested in how big your lawnmower's engine is? I have astro turf..."

You are the guy listing off lawnmower stats.

Nobody cares

It doesn't matter if people don't understand the spec sheet. As long as they're true, that's what it's got and that's what makes something better than something else.

Other than that I don't know what you're going on about.

----------

Megapixel count isn't the whole story, but I'd guess that the Nokia has a better camera overall. Clock speed definitely isn't the whole story on CPU performance! There are other things like IPC to consider. The new Mac Pro's Intel CPU clock speed is 2.7GHz, and there are cheapo AMD processors clocked at 4GHz. The AMD isn't faster.

I understand what you're talking about, but I do have to mention that for some reason AMD is taking the route of power conservation than ultimate performance (Making it cheaper), which is quite unfortunate.

My HP Envy has a quad core AMD A10 but it could also come with a quad core Intel i7. With this laptop most of the gaming performance (which is brilliant, might I add) comes from the dedicated graphics processor and because it's got two and a half gigabytes of video memory I can have high graphics settings without the lag. I have been able to get 11 hours on the battery in the past but I don't care much for battery life as I normally just kill the battery, take it out and use the laptop plugged into the wall anyways.

I'm sure if I had an Intel processor performance would be incredible.

If I had the money I'd buy an HP Z820.

Sometimes it is good for a person to know when to suht pu. Not the case for some in this threat, apparently.
