That's funny because I never found the word "innovation" synonymous with anything Microsoft. Unless the fact that Microsoft is rushing Windows 8 to market to compete with iPad 3 is what you mean by "innovation."

So, they do not innovate at Microsoft. And yet they got order of magnitude more patents than Apple. What does it say about Apple innovation prowess?

The Samsung tablet that was given away (loaned) at Windows Build conference is apparently going on sale (albeit without the demo Apps, and with a version of Windows 7) later this month. Retail price: $1099
The retail model lacks the NFC, GPS, and built in 3G the Build model has.

Interested enough to make the pre-beta available openly without registration or any conditions.

It looks to me like Microsoft is very happy with how the public betas for Windows 7 worked, and is expanding the program to get feedback even earlier in the process.

So, please bitch and moan (to Microsoft) about what you think is wrong - you'll help make W8 even better.
It really surprised me that they offered the Developer Preview to anyone that wanted it.

This is nothing of the sort. The Samsung Series Seven tablet was intro'd at the Berlin IFA show last week.

I think people should wait and see what Windows 8 looks like on an ARM-based machine that retails for $500 before getting too convinced that Microsoft is going to walk away with the Tablet market.
I am a little more interested to see what AMD with their APUs next year. 2-4 cores and a DirectX 11 fGPU with decent driver support. Can your tablet play Team Fortress 2 or WoW?

Sandy Bridge ULV is fine but not compared to the prices you can get Brazos today.

will this run in parallels / vmware?

...or what's this got to do with MacRumors? ;)

I certainly hope so!

So, Microsoft outsells Apple 19 to 1 without innovation?

And, as has been pointed out, your claim of "rushing to market" is suspicious at best.

$76 Billion in cash says a lot. ;)

It says a lot about how Apple isn't using their profits to benefit their shareholders.

Can you spell "dividends"?

Not exactly $76 Billion... read the latest financial statements.
MS has more. ;)

According to Apple's last financial report (June 25, 2011)
They had approx. $46.8B in cash/cash equivalents on hand.
With total assets = $106.7B

Note: MS has made it very clear that what some people call the "tablet interface" will be the default interface across all devices, including traditional PeeCees.

How do you like your Mac peecee? Oh, I forgot, you're in the post pc era because that's what Uncle Steve told you.

Most people only need a PC for email and browsing so it makes sense that they buy a cheaply built and inexpensive $299 Windows PC.

Not everyone needs a premium $1000 plus robust PC like a Mac.

Yes, but they still buy MS Windows with this PC and the cheapest version of Windows costs more than OS/X. Why don't people prefer something cheaper (like Linux or OS/X)? I guess they want MS quality.

Well I know the whole point in the healthcare world is to have something they can walk around with. Essentially a digital replacement for the clipboards they traditionally used for patent information. So a netbook wouldn't work there.

I am having a tough time feeling sorry for a company that has more cash than the government of the United States of America.

Albert: iPad has already won healthcare tablet war
http://mobihealthnews.com/10537/albert-ipad-has-already-won-healthcare-tablet-war/

So the iPad is being fiddled around with in different industries. So what? It's not changing the world. This thing was universally panned when it first debuted and I refuse to believe it's suddenly having such a positive impact on the world. No, sir. The only person who liked it was LTD.

Professionals are just testing it out. Most of them are probably not using it for real work because they can't use it for real work. It's a piece of crap. Windows 8 will change everything. The Metro UI is far superior and the idea of having two OSes in a single device is brilliant. No compromises. Just complexity.

Windows is already included with the cheap $299 computer

Isn't it interesting that most Mac buyers only use it for email and web browsing? Since Macs are targeted toward the average Joe who isn't too good with technology, what does that say?

Microsoft had over $50 billion 10 years ago but they gave most away in a huge dividend. And they pay dividends now.

$1000 Microsoft stock at ipo would be worth $80000 per year in dividends today

Of course Linux does not equal Unix. Linux is not derived from the UNIX source code. Linux mimics UNIX. Besides,

"Plus I like the fact that OSX is in reality a polished *NIX distro."

"*NIX" refers to a "UNIX-like" operating system and Linux is a "UNIX-like" operating system.

You should have said that UNIX-Like then, because UNIX is an OS as well as a set of specifications.

Exactly. When is Apple going to realize that iLife is a failure? Nobody cares about creative work. I laughed so hard when they made iMovie and Garageband for iOS. Idiots.

"Average Joe?" You mean like the creative pro folks in the BD thread that dropped $20K plus on their Mac setups?

A minuscule segment of Apple's market. Tell me the percentage of revenue created by the Mac Pro and number of units sold vs all other Macs. Apple could drop the Mac Pro tomorrow and there wouldn't even be a microscopic dip in their revenue or units sold. Give me a real example.

Exactly. When is Apple going to realize that iLife is a failure? Nobody cares about creative work. I laughed so hard when they made iMovie and Garageband for iOS. Idiots.

Who are the idiots, Apple or the consumer who eats it up? :D I'll bet Steve spent many an hour in his office laughing his butt off at the ability to lead his flock around like a bull with a ring in his nose.
