That's because Apple invented the modern internet. It was made on a bunch of Steve Jobs made computers, you know. Only he had the vision necessary to create the World Wide Web.

We should call it the Steven P. Jobs Memorial Information Superhighway to honor him.

I thought that a gang of angry peacocks invented the internet.

Can't believe Microsoft can get away with something like that XP...
Apple should sue them because it has curved corners or something lol

No I hear you, the app ecosystem is hurting MS. But you have to admit they have made HUGE strides in their app ecosystem, they are trying. The legacy windows programs are what put them over the edge. That's why RT is such a failure.

Yeah, but it's a temporary advantage. Something to give them a leg up while they build up their catalog of WinRT apps.

What would've helped them out here would've been making WinRT a little more fully featured than what they did, then use the API to make their higher end apps. That would've been enough to draw developer attention to the power of their platform.

...but they didn't. And it's a damn crying shame, too.

What's nice is that MS DOES have a tablet which was built to be a tablet, the Atom powered variant. I've said this ever since they were released back in December MS biggest mistake was not simply making their surface hardware with the Atom processor. Still, they do exist from other OEM's and they are pretty awesome, and they will run desktop programs as well as Metro apps.

Yup. I agree with you that the RT's days are numbered now that Atom processors are finally becoming worth something. All RT has done is give them a black eye, and saddle them with a money sucking, redundant product.

Certainly the desktop days are numbered, but not as shortly numbered as you think, there is still a need for it.

If I was smart enough to invent a way to move on past the desktop I'd be a billionaire, but I'm not, but then again neither is Apple so far.

Actually, I'll say there's gonna be a place for the desktop for at least another 10 years. It'll slowly be relegated to more niche audiences while touchscreens expands in the consumer space, but someone somewhere is always gonna need a mouse, a keyboard, and a big screen with a bunch of windows open to do their job.

And the rest...

...which I'd reply to, but I gotta get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow and want to go to sleep. Ain't got time to write out big blocks of text. :p

Um...

$349 is reasonable price for that ****.

Yeah, only one problem with that... the keyboard shown on the Surface is an additional $119 on top of the $349... Yeah, Microsoft must have simply forgotten to mention that in the commercial...

Other than Xbox, does MSFT make any hardware worth owning? Even the 360 had issues with the RRoD, which I think cost them $1B in warranty costs.

Yup. 2002 Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. So bad ass. Still use them. Other than that, no. They are a SW company.

I'm still trying to understand how Microsoft can keep running these hit pieces and Apple still plans on switching the default search in it's devices to Microsoft Bing.

Apple is madder at Google right now... This is like a CW teen drama...

Switching to Bing search is no threat.. Microsoft isn't capable of competing with Apple no matter how much money they have. Google and Android are doing very well though.

Once upon a time... Microsoft had as much cash on hand as Apple does not.

Bill Gates was right, Steve Ballmers an idiot.

I look forward to seeing what MS is capable of once they... bury him in their back yard and pretend he's on a long vacation.

Siri in ios 7 is so much better, it's faster, you can change the voice to a male. Ben at that price I still don't want a surface. Now when they do that hp touchpad fire sale I'm in.

I had a play with a top model surface in a shop the other day. Its nice but the problem is with the KB attached it doesn't know if it's a laptop or tablet and as others have reported it does neither well.

This is probably the reason for poor sales and declining profits.

Personally I'd rather the iPad Mini and use it as a tablet, no KB.

M$ should piss the Android tablets off as well. No Android devices appear to have a stand at the back as well. No Android tablets I know have a USB port on the bumper as well.

In your world, Apple consumers must not be very creative people.

"DRAW? WHY WOULD I WANT TO PAINT AND SKETCH ON AN IPAD? OLOL THAT'S DUMB. OOH ANGRY BIRDS".

No iPad owner wants a stylus until Apple sells one they've innovated.

Nope, I think you nailed it because the XBOX ONE looks to be following in the Surface's footsteps. Sony's PS4 is gonna get the business this time around.

Really? Then why is there such a wide 3rd party market for them and various art/writing Apps that take advantage of them. Nah, no way Steve Was wrong about people not needing styluses. Steve was never wrong, until he was wrong and he did a 180 in his views.

The importance of the no stylus bit when the iPhone launched is that most other touch screens were very poor interaction surfaces if you didn't use the special stylus for the device... if they interacted at all. Howerver there are several activities that are better with a stylus then not.

The weird part about it all is Apple is switching to Bing which helps Microsoft and the turn around is Microsoft trying to screw Apple with this idiotic tablet ad.......BUT......Microsoft is too stupid to realize that they are hurting themselves while helping Apple in this ad. Making Siri the star attraction puts the attention on the iPad to anyone watching. And for the people who analyze ads know that adding the prices at the end to show who's cheaper just proves desperation of Microsoft.:)

Not only that, but the second you mention a competitor in an ad, you already admitting your product is inferior. When you are the best, you only talk about yourself and your product. You don't talk about 2nd, 3rd or last place. :)

Just my observation but I think you like these ads because of the comical vocals from Siri, there's really nothing in the ad enjoyable about the way MS advertises the Surface, IMO.

Really...? I suppose that is your opinion and mine is different.

Again..., I am not sure why you and everybody else is getting so upset about these Ad's..., it is just an Ad.

I'm probably in the minority but I actually like the surface and yes, I'm an Apple fanboy. But it's really the clean interface that draws me in a bit, it's intriguing in once you get it you get it and most the things you want are right there at your fingertips. Honestly Windows 8 and it's tablet equivalent are the first original things Microsoft has done in... uh, probably ever as they've not usually an original idea in their vacuous collective heads and in the past every single thing was a ripoff, mostly from Apple. But their OS is in fact different as opposed to Android and the other as ran blatant iOS ripoffs, for that they seriously deserve some credit... and I can't believe I'm actually typing that but it's true.

This said I've an iPad 1 and a iPad Mini 1 and they connect with my family's Mac eco system exceedingly well, it's not like I'll be running off to buy a Surface any time soon. I'm just saying, these aren't that bad to counter those maybe hating on them instantly for being Microsoft, which is still understandable reaction considering their track record.
I had a look at WP8 and tried it on the fastest Nokia in a store. I really disliked the tile interface, because 50% of the time when I wanted to scroll the tiles it thought I wanted to click one. There is so little space between the tiles it is far to easy to get it wrong. I got very frustrated thinking "No, I don't want that, I want to scroll!" having to get back and try again. And then, on the fastest Nokia around the whole thing felt sluggish with not very smooth scrolling and such. I like the look of it, but the experience when I tried was terrible.

I also tried Win 8 on a desktop. That was even worse. All the time I ended up in apps and there was no*way*out. It was a disaster to find anything on that desktop. It was not intuitive, nor from my XP experience, nor from my Mac experience.

You missed my sarcasm :)

LOL, just as you feel that I am misjudging you, you are misjudging me and most everyone else here. I hardly think most people here are upset at this ad. If anything, most people here are laughing at it. It's a sad ad because it's a desperate attempt to recoup the last bit of customers that still care that the Surface even exists. If anything Microsoft helped Apple with this ad. :D

I'm not sure he's off mark all that much. There seems to be quite a few that anything non-Apple that is successful or different or X that Apple isn't or is - (in short any news non-Apple) is greeted with disdain, mockery, etc. It reeks of insecurity. I'm not saying you do or your posts specifically - but there are plenty on here who come off as if someone just killed their dog.

That could be the case for some folks here but they certainly don't need someone judging them. This is an APPLE site after all and fans of Apple should be able to enjoy this site without dealing with other tech fanboys judging/ridiculing. I'm sure there are plenty of Microsoft/Surface forums to go participate in although they are probably not very active. :)

This ad is so true, because, as we all know, there are no accessories available for iPad... :p

The ad's are fine enough. In comparison to Samsung they dont poke fun of apple users.

And lets remember that Apple made more than SIXTY I'm A PC ad's, wherein they also made fun of Microsoft and their flaws. This is all good natured advertising. As Apple udsers/fanboys we cant really be offended by this style of campaigning.

As I see it the iPad and Surface are two very different products, they both have forces and weaknesses.
