I wonder if I can get this version through my works at home program. $10 and I'll pull the trigger right away.

I'm in the same boat. Been holding off since the beginning of the year already (since I currently have Office for Mac 2011). Just checked the site, and it still has the old version. Somewhere under the FAQ section, it said if you buy Mac 2011, you'll have to pay again for the new (2016) version...

I'm hoping it gets updated soon – and that we don't have to wait until September, for the non-Office365 release.

The Outlook for Mac 2016 preview is much improved over the version that was released last October. I had huge issues with my Enterprise account (basically - not any better than the 2010 version). The 2016 preview is a huge upgrade in terms of dependability and fetching.

Edit: I should add: Don't have a 365 account, either.

Exactly my experience. I didn't mind the crashing as I new I am using beta software that I wanted to try out. But releasing now? I thought it must be month away !!!

I've had the opposite experience with the new Office beta, particularly the last few versions. Outlook fetches my Google apps email far faster than Apple Mail (which is soooooo slow), I've done things with Word that crashed 2011 with ease, I know I might be an exception but it's worked well for me.

Hope its more stable then the last beta's. Love the new interface, but stability has been horrible.

What version is the final Office for Mac 2016? Mine shows 15.11.2, and the latest beta I had was 15.11.1. The smiley face for feedback is still there, so I'm not sure whether I'm still running a beta version.

So, Microsoft are trying to force me on to the 'Pay us whatever we demand, for the rest of your life, or your files stop working' model.

There's no way I'm ever going to do that, either sell me the software or do without my money.
Or your files stop working? What?

Considering that Pages/Numbers/Keynote can read Office files, and so can Google Docs and even Microsoft's own, OneDrive (which is free), your files don't "stop working".

OneDrive also replicates the desktop layouts pretty well (since Docs and iWork sometimes mangle layouts).

Also, since you clearly didn't read the article:
Office 2016 for Mac will become available as a one-time purchase option this September.

Nice, I've been rocking with the beta version so its good to see it hit the streets.

Not exactly a quick install....

Meanwhile Microsoft works on the next version of Office that consists of several new features that Mac users will have to wait another 4-5 years for.

EDIT: Oh wait they will continue updating for Office 365 subscribers
Features that 99.999999% of mere mortal users will never feel the need to use?

OTOH, if it can finally handle large multi-file volumes properly (the Windows version tries hard but never quite gets it) then it might be worth the upgrade. No subscription for me though. I'll wait any buy it outright (well, the license anyway)
