as you can see, you should never expect any positive opinion towards microsoft here.

Since there are always multiple side of a story, you can be sure that there will be negative side comes up from people here, who, I have to say, are quite smart and philosophical.

I just hope they do the same for apple, but most of the time, they dont.

You are right. I can view both sides of the question but must people where don't. But many of them use MS office....

Are they going to do a desktop hunters ad? Guy talks about not being cool enough for an iMac whilst loading a bunch of boxes into the back of a van (brown cardboard boxes marked Monitor, Tower, Software, a big one called Installation and Setup Manuals) and in the background just out of focus you see a guy carrying an iMac box which he loads into a smart car and drives off.

Actually, where's my video camera?

If Apple were smart they would offer more models that dont carry the hefty pricetag. Apple would sell massive numbers of units and then MS will have a serious problem. Netbooks sell like crazy because of the price. Take a hint Apple!!!

The thing is they don't need to. They have more on hand capital, a higher stock price and a better brand image than any other competitor. Apple market share continues to rise, despite the downturn in the economy.

Why on earth would they do anything that could damage any of those?

Usually, "Anti" anything ads are not well received. When you're at the point that your only argument is to bash the competition's weak points instead of promoting your strong points, you need to review your product.

People want to hear what you have to sell, not what the competition is selling.

Agree that negative campaigns are generally not well received.

However, this isn't a purely negative campaign - IMO, (if we are looking at this in terms of Mac vs. PC's, rather than an ad. for M/S products) it communicates very effectively a clear differentiator - value in the home portables market.

It worked for me.

Cheers,

SM

I fully agree with you on this. I'm still using my PowerBook G4 with OSX Tiger and it still runs great. Yeah it's a bit slower than when it was new but still a dependable notebook; and I never had to use my Apple Care. Now I'm just impatiently waiting my 2.8 Quad Core Mac Pro.

my dad still has a PowerBook G4 for work (he does ALOT of video and photo editing) and he a has a 2007 Mac Pro, or 2008 idk, and they're working great. our whole family only owns macs and we never had to use Apple Care. Sadly we did have a iMac G5 die, dust got in to the fans and ate it alive

WTH, Microsoft does NOT make hardware, Texas just told them more or less VISTA is a peace of SH__ and is not going on any of the state computers.

F_ing worthless, is this schmuck an actor also like the bimbo.

Biggest thing is if he did his homework and KNEW what he was looking for "which he had NO CLUE IMHO" than he would have gone in saying I am looking for these model laptops and not walked around looking at all the other garbage.

LOOSER:eek:

Software you still need that on a mac and they can do that ad with showing a better monitor then the imac and a DESKTOP WITH A GOOD VIDEO CARD for $1000 or less next to the imac / mac mini don't for get the mouse and keyboard boxes with the mini.

Did it work enough for me to actually buy a PC laptop for my son/ daughter if I had one? Probably not - I'd do some research, find out that the OS is superior and crucially not encumbered by security vulnerabilities.

I do agree with you that it's sad that M/S cannot advertise on the strength of their product alone.

Nevertheless, faced with such a situation - the agency, whoever they were, did a great job with the brief.

Cheers again,

SM

Here comes the mac defense force...

PEOPLE, APPLE CAN TAKE A HIT. RELAX.

IMHO, as someone working on the fringes of the brand management, marketing, and design industries, these ad's are excellent - very strong, robust, and with a clear message communicated effectively: if I was part of the agency commissioned to create these, I'd be extremely proud.

"Extremely proud???" Um, for spending millions of dollars to tell everyone what any idiot already knows? That Apple computers almost always cost more than their PC equivalents? Haven't we all known this for the past, oh, 20 years now???

So essentially this ad is targeted at idiots who have lived in technological ignorance for the past couple of decades. In other words, Microsoft's typical customer base.

I don't see any "clear message" in these ads at all, other than "if you're short on cash, keep buying the same crappy computers you've always bought." Sounds like a winner!

Oh god, you guys are way too serious.

*brushes hands*

I'm done.

Yeah well that's we will call you if you call others fanboys, funny thing is most of your posts are bashing Apple and supporting Microsoft.

I have yet to bash apple, try reading my posts and putting down the kool-aid (i've always wondered where that phrase came from, now that i think of it). I have, however, bashed some of the idiots here for acting like the idiots they are. I use both MS and Apple products, a synergy some morons here cant seem to figure out. Micrososft makes good stuff, Apple makes good stuff, but MS sticks up for themselves once and everyone acts like everything made since 1980 that doesnt have the apple logo is worthless. Its ****ing ridiculous and it just makes this forum look like a bunch of whiny mac snobs.

If someone thinks a HP lappy is a better deal it doesnt mean they are wrong, it just means they want something different out of their computer than you do. Some people cant afford to spend $2700 just to get a 17" screen, some people cant afford to spend $1300 on a laptop that only has 2gb memory (yes, its ddr3, but the performance perks are minute), some people just want to choose their hardware instead of having it be chosen for them. THAT DOESNT MAKE THEM WRONG, DAMMIT. How is this so difficult to understand?

The job that Microsoft makes is great, did anybody stop and think in millions of hardware configurations that windows runs.

Apple runs in very limited number of computers that is more easy and don't compares with Microsoft job.

Seems they aren't doing a great job are they? lol.

The ads are good. That HP the guy bought is a really nice machine for the price. I just hope that these ads will make apple think about offering better priced products that 'everyone' can afford.

But the statement that apple is 'not about power' but aesthetics is false!! Look at the specs of the mac and it is quite high. They are also high-end machines that are built to last! I wonder how that HP will be operating/looking in 12 months time.

It doesnt matter that they are not advertising 'Windows' exclusively. There is a little bit of 'microsoft' there but it is not necessary. Whatever machine you buy that is not a mac will come with windows. The point is moot! The first thing a person sees is the hardware. Most people are smart enough to realise that performance depends largely on your hardware, and it needs to look nice, which the HP is.

If Apple were smart they would offer more models that dont carry the hefty pricetag. Apple would sell massive numbers of units and then MS will have a serious problem. Netbooks sell like crazy because of the price. Take a hint Apple!!!

I love apple and i will always buy apple, mostly because of the software and to a lesser extent quality/look of hardware. But everytime i fork out the money it feels like i have forfeited one of my limbs for the privilege. Im NOT poor, i am quite well off actually, but that does not mean i throw my money around without a care.

I just don't get this mentality that companies should offer products that everyone can afford. What does that mean, I mean if someone can afford a 500 dollar computer, does it mean that all companies should make sure that these people should be able to afford their products. What about people in third world countries who can't even afford a 100 dollar computer but probably want a computer, should Apple make 99 dollar computers for them. Look if you can't afford something a company offers, you either save up for it or go and get something cheaper, it's that simple, if you want something either pay up or shut up. I mean I want a 1000 dollar Louis Vuitton bag but I only have 100 dollars, I guess Louis Vuitton should be making 100 dollar bags just for me.

I agree with you, finally someone that thinks!!!

I'm not reading this thread.

But to get this straight, he buys the base config of the HDX 16t right? But with 4GB RAM, instead of 2GB. The base config comes with a 2GHz processor, yet he balked at another computer with a 2GHz processor and my 2 year old MacBook (not Pro) had a 2.16GHz processor in it. Not to mention the base configs screen, sounds like he got a bad deal.

Technologically savvy my ...

P.S. And I'm not bashing windows, if he WAS technologically savvy surely he could of found a very good deal, large resolution, faster processor, same amount of RAM, bigger HDD etc for less. Tool!

Apple are doing as good as they just because to have cornered a certain niche and filled the needs of that niche very well. If Apple at this point went all out and filled every segment with one or many configurations, they would spread themselves thin and would fail.

Their success is offering something that is vertically integrated and just works well. They can do that by having a few models, on which they can concentrate their effort in order to produce the best product they possibly can.

Plus they won't make any money off cheap computers and lose their brand value. Brand value is very important, the western world is built on brands, which is why consumers pay higher prices for brand names, not everything is based on specs like people on this forum want us to believe.

People are stupid...

People actually think that the average consumer is going to analyze this ad as much as you guys... they wont.

And another thing that bugs me is that because some of you have had bad experiences with windows, you think it sucks. Many people have had perfectly good experiences with Microsoft and for most people it is perfectly fine. In fact some people do better on vista than OSX. (It's not impossible you know...)

A lot of people think that almost all computers are the same. As for the ad, people will get the idea that macs are more expensive. So if you get the same thing for cheaper, it is a good thing.

People who do their research actually know how to buy a computer. This ad is for the people who don't do their research.

How does taking firewire off the macbook make it better?

just for fun..

ah ah ah that's hilarious! :D

lame ad

"I want a laptop that has portability, battery life, and power...."

all laptops have this haha. either way apple has the best battery life in the industry, the new aluminum macbooks are portable and light at 13", and have a 2.4 processor, waaaaay more power than the 2.0 he picked. FLAWED! lol
