So the natural response would be to complain here in hopes apple will see?

If something bothers you so much why dont u give them a call?

As I said before, I got my issue sorted. The contact page was useless in assisting me though. My initial question was if there was an actual "complaint" section on the site that I might have missed, cause 6 months ago I could not find it when I had my issue.

Right, its obvious that apples customer base is extemely pissed about no mini tower like every other computer company out there. So pissed in fact that no one is even stepping into apple stores and buying any products....
That is one twisted way to evaluate the demand for a product. "Hey look, our current products are actually selling. Let's take that as a sign that we must never change".

What do they have to change and why? They update their products and they sell like hotcakes.

Edit: The rational response from a company would be, "hey, theyre selling, we must be doing something right!"

Who honestly goes, damn we're successful, lets switch it up and hope we dont ruin it.

"Saying"? Where in the ad is there any claim that it's not staged?

Not in the ad, on their web page.

Sure, "Apple hater". Let's go with that. Now excuse me while I lay out my two Mac Minis, an iMac, two Apple keyboards, three Mighty Mouses, five iPods and an iPhone 3G here on the table, I have to sit here and hate them for a while. It requires my full concentration. I hope they all attack eachother and DIE.

You've sure been hating a lot on Apple for their mishandling of your iMac problems, in both this thread and the one for the Lauren commercial... I don't think owning Apple products means you get a free pass at trolling these forums.

...because the vocal minority is saying the things that many, many more are thinking.

WHERE'S THE QUAD-CORE MINI-TOWER, TIM !?!?!?

Maybe if you guys had bought the last one and made it a successful product, Apple wouldn't have dropped it from their line-up.

I actually blame that one on Steve Jobs being missing in action. Had he been around I am certain he would have pulled that. Maybe the shuffle should come with some "free samples" to appreciate it...
I actually think it was good for them that they made the new Shuffle. It was the logical and inevitable conclusion to their long and increasingly bizarre quest for thinness, small size and minimalism. You finally did it, guys: A naked stick with no buttons. Now frame it and put a plaque on the frame that reads "DEAD END", and promise to never go there again.

Is there anything about Apple you like?

Have you personally even used the new shuffle? I have, its easy, and seems like itd be great for running with.

No, the mid-range/low-end tower is more something like this : "Hey look, notebook sales are outpacing desktop sales by a large margin. Good thing we had the foresight to get out of that market when our own mid-range tower offerings stopped being profitable years ago".

The last affordable tower computers buy Apple had dismal sales. Ever since, the industry has noted the decline of the desktop computer. And you want Apple to suddenly go back to it because ... ?

Did I miss a quad-core mini-tower?

Multi-core processors weren't even on the map the last time Apple saw profit from desktop towers.

With the continuing decline of the desktop, why should Apple bother going back to that market ? For the few users that want one ? Will there even be enough volume to cover R&D and marketing without pricing it completely out of the market ?

Better question, why should they go there at all?

My biggest concern with the shuffle is that apple headphones suck. Its crap that I cannot use my own headphones with the shuffle. There is no way I could go back to stock earbuds after using sennheiser IE8s.

The only reasonable answers is : profit. But is that really possible in today's world of cut throat competition and razor thing margins ? Is there really that many Apple users that would just eat up a upgradable mini tower ?

Is that code for "if you don't like every single thing they've produced unreservedly, you're an Apple hater/Microsoft fanboy"?

Let's see... I like

The iPhone's UI and functionality
QuickLook, Exposé and Spaces
The iMac design
iPod Shuffle Gen2
The Mac Mini form factor
Safari 4
FrontRow and the itty bitty remote
The slot loading optical drives
The wired Mighty Mouse (normally I prefer wireless but that one's useless)
The vintage 'hockey puck' mouse
The alu keyboard (wired and wireless)
The UMBP design (minus the black keys)

The rest gets anything from a shrug to two middle fingers.

Are you even in the market for a shuffle?
There are adapters on the way.

.

Not even close. I've just never seen you have anything good to say.

do you not read? it is already stated why OSX won't run on PCs on the post you quoted.

say it like it is. OSX does not run on pc's. NOT "pc's can't run os x". really, it doesn't take too much intelligence to understand the difference between the two senteces.

try it. i'm confident you are very capable.

Could it also be that MS, and therefore PCs, chose to stick with the ancient BIOS firmware, whereas OS X requires the more modern and efficient EFI firmware?

So, there was no profit from the B&W G3, or any of the PowerMac G4s?

Desktop sales are still a healthy market, perhaps the reason Apple doesn't see much is that their entry tower costs five times more than the popular desktop mini-tower systems?

The sales of desktops stood at one million units, while that of notebooks were 350,000 units during the quarter.

The MAIT expressed hope that sales would go up in the current quarter.

The overall PC sales for 2008-09 are expected to remain at the same levels of last fiscal at 7.3 million units, the MAIT statement said.

'The desktops sales recorded a decline of 15 percent, while sales of notebooks fell 30 percent over the corresponding period last year,' MAIT executive director Vinnie Mehta said.

Oh wait, that's in India.

If you have a nice (albeit expensive) laptop line, and a not-so-great desktop line like Apple, are you surprised that desktop sales are poor?

Could it also be that MS, and therefore PCs, chose to stick with the ancient BIOS firmware, whereas OS X requires the more modern EFI firmware?

No.

There are adapters on the way.

I was going to get one for the gym. They seem perfect for it. I think I will get the 2nd gen one. An adapter is just going to add more wires that will off set small design.

I did read somewhere that jogging caused it to skip tracks.

Here it is

http://the-gadgeteer.com/2009/04/02/ipod-shuffle-4gb-review/

Something you might want to consider if you want to get one for jogging. I cannot as i have not tried the new one, and am getting the 2nd gen

No, we've just never seen you post anything positive, which yes, would be code for "Apple hater/Microsoft shill".
That's because you have this filter, see. If you would go back and read my hundreds of posts (which you obviously won't) you would find that I have plenty of good things to say about Apple and their products, and plenty of bad things to say about Microsoft in general and Vista in particular. But since you're a particularly difficult case (among the top 10% most severe cases of Apple loyalism around these parts), you're counting each positive comment as +1 and each negative one as -1000.

Yeah, I don't get that either -- why do they try to make you use their crap headphones? They could've easily put some controls right on the device, in addition to on the cord. They tried to do that with the original iPhone too, having the recessed jack so you either had to use their buds or buy an adapter.

Except I have no loyalty to Apple. All I've been saying all this time to people like you is that maybe, just maybe, Apple doesn't make a product for you. Instead of whining about they should be making and what you want, just move on. These people include but are not limited to :

- People screaming that performance is the only metric to choosing a computer.
- People saying the Mac Mini doesn't compete on specs or price against a computer 10 times its size.
- People saying the Mac Pro is way too expensive, and then compare it to the same PC they compared the Mac Mini to.
- People always asking for a 1000$ Apple tower (it's not happening, stop whining about it and either ask Apple directly or vote with your wallet).

I don't really care either way. If I wasn't using OS X, I'd be using a Linux laptop like I've been doing for the last 3 years. It was a Dell Inspiron, and it worked like a charm for the whole time I had it.

Maybe those products are just older ? Please then explain why Apple would drop it from their line-up if it was such a great source of profit, out of spite ?

A few back someone claimed that Apple dropped an affordable quad-core mini-tower since it wasn't profitable. (As if anyone here really knows anything about product line financials at Apple .)

I'm trying to find out what was meant by that strange comment.

Here's the odd post:

They aren't trying to make you use their crap headphones. If you don't like the product, you can just not buy it. If enough people do that, they will look at the feedback and change it accordingly.

The best thing to do right now is just let the sales talk. If the new Shuffle doesn't sell, then the message will be loud and clear to Apple.

And you're saying they were profitable (of course judging not from Apple's last cheap tower endevour but a 5 year old product). I'm still waiting for you to come up with sales charts showing that the sales figure were good all the way until they decided their towers were 2000$+ Pro workstations only.

Also, if you don't think it was because of declining sales and lost of profit, why do you think Apple abandoned the market ? Because you guys can say what you want, that is what they did.
