the problem with car analogies is they dont work when you throw them up against computer manufactures as counterparts.
by that definition a BMW M3 will slaughter a corolla for 3x the price (meaning 3x the performance and its true in the real world with cars)
but in computer terms that M3 will get slaughterd by the corolla for half the price in ALL categories (handling, in car electronics, horsepower and torque, etc, etc)
Apple = BMW M3 = 120HP, seating for 3.5, 12" wheels, and no anti rol bars (handles like CRAP)
DIY PC = Corolla = 450HP, weighs nothing, seating for 30, 20" rims, 30mm antisway bar, racing suspension, and can fly with upgrades
Here's my question, since Apple isn't the only PC manufacturer out there: do you guys lurk around the Dell and HP forums too, telling people how stupid they are for overpaying for a pre-made box?
I doubt it...

Actually, I find his analogy perfect. Take a drive around any Orange County, CA city center on a Friday night and you'll see these fools everywhere. Take a Honda Civic. Throw in a turbo system. Fart-can exhaust. New suspension. Trick wheels. Put a big wing on the back. Bingo! You have an M3 at half the cost...
...that looks like crap, sounds like crap, and has the resale value of...a Honda Civic.
Brilliant! How BMW can sell any cars at all is simply inexplicable. BMW buyers must be idiots. And I assume there are Honda Civic owners on the BMW forums that are more than happy to tell them that.

Thank you, I have worked in a mac store (not an Apple store, the store was a third party one.) and this was the big thing a ton of people didn't get. The amount of high end software you get compared to an HP is staggering. Yes iphoto is no photoshop but to the weekend photographer it is a fun and very useful product. Same goes with garage band, I knew a man that bought a nice mic and used his machine to record all his lectures at school while taking notes as well. Plus imovie is a pretty easy to use.
Also I'm sorry for the rant. Oh and on top of that since 2007 even PC world has been saying that Macbooks and Macbookpros run Windows better than HP and Dells.

i havent seen another manufacture AS overpriced as apple, not even close, alienware machines are a total rip off but they have performance to back them up.
apple does not for the most part.
also my computer isnt mainstream (corolla = mainstream = hp, dell, acer, etc) i doubt anyone else in the entire world has a configuration like mine, its totally unique to my specfic needs (since i built it with my own specs in hand)
mine would be more like a K-1 Attack but with a quad rotor engine (other peoples computers will look like mine but underneath it wont be the same)
that doesnt work becuase those civics still do not outperform the M3 in handling, stopping, or any track times.
those civics would have to be outperforming Corvette Z06's. (which is why the car analogy does not work)
a self built system overclocked (turbo'd, SC, nitrous) runs generally around 4-4.5GHz currently with core2duos, core2quads and i7's for the price of a Macmini, now tell me, what macmini will perform the same or, what "econo" car will perform the same as a super car for half the price?
the closest comparsion i canmake is a lancer EVO or Lancer RS450 compared with a ferarri 550.
the lancer will slaughter the ferarri in all weather conditions on or off track rain, snow, etc.
Ferarri = looks
Lancer = performance and can seat 5.

Hon hai builds them but under apples specific guidelines and specs. this is a fault of apples design.

comparing a macbookpro to an ultraportable? please, if you believe that you should not be in any profession related to IT.
PC world just randomly tested laptops, none of them were in the same category as the others.
then they say MBP faster than even an alienware WOW, not all alienwares are for performance, alienware machines have a machine in EACH category, portability, gaming, ultra gaming, affordability, value.
they tested an affordable alienware with apple's most expensive machine. why not try testing most expensive with most expensive, (that means an alienware with dual video cards, dual HDDs in raid 0 and a quadcore CPU, then we'll see who wins)
i just cant understand why apple users cant nail down the facts.

There was no insult, only a comparison, and a fair one at that.
Honestly, if we're to look at the pro-MS thing, I thought the commercials with the kid showing how easy stuff is to do was a better approach, as were the commercials where all these different people were PCs.
These current commercials are almost insulting to Windows, because it says to me that instead of proclaiming what a great OS it is, they're saying how cheap the machines are.

An operating system company should focus on selling their operating system. At this point they might as well be selling Ubuntu on cheap PC's; going by the commercial, I wouldn't know the difference.

the computer i built is faster than all of them with a better monitor
the alienware can still play games but is over priced
the mac is WAY overpriced and CANT play games
remember a gaming computer can be a regular desktop too, just a faster regular desktop.

yes because you choose looks and brand name over functional specs and peformance
PC users choose the latter. however PC users have many looks and can change looks when they feel like (changing cases, etc)
although i think this looks better than a Macpro

There's a hell of a lot more to the whole experience than numbers on paper. I'm not just talking about the brand name either. I mean the 'wow' factor that can't be quantified - that the Evo, great though it is, just can't quite match.
A better comparison with Apple would have been Porsche, because like Apple, they build desirable machines that give you a fabulous user experience and they also build cheaper, lower performance models that you still want to own even though they're outperformed on paper by cheaper competition. And unlike Ferrari, they have good build quality!
