Hmmm is Lauren a Mac user maybe? She liked the Macs and her kid said he was a PC user and an 11yr old, then she says she isn't! hahaha

There's really only a few ways to go:

Opinion 1) Pfft, these ads are so sad! Microsoft is getting deperate

Opinion 2) OMFG Microsoft is lying!!!!!11!!!! Macs are so cheap!

Opinion 3) Odd, I thought the user wanted spec x and they didn't get it. That computer won't serve their needs, they should have bought a used iBook g4 off ebay if they were looking for a gaming machine.

Opinion 4) The person featured in this ad is an uniformed moron, mac users are much smarter because we can buy a computer from a company that makes computers for us to buy with our money. There for we are better *adjust monical*

Opinion 5) Hey, these ads are actually quite well done, they do a good job of highlighting an advantage that PC's have over the cost of a mac

Ding, ding, ding we have a winner. That is awesome it has made my night :D

Too funny.

Instead of starting a thread for each ad, MacRumors should simply have a live poll on a closed thread.

The choices for the poll are up above, of course.

These commercials are so lame. I have yet to hear one really great argument as to why one should choose a PC over a Mac. LOL in the end, the kid shouts " Oh wow blueray !!" Like he would even really know what that is. He sounds like the typical kid that sways wherever the media takes him. A typical kid that's familiar with said name, simply because they have heard it so much, but they really have no clue what the hype is / should be about if there is any really. Then they actually purchase the computer based on this non-info. These are sad attempts . . at what? I don't really know lol.

Agreed. But, if I may add . . .

No one cares about the argument.

Ads are all about what IS NOT said. It's about imagery, tone, and style.

We've got your average Wal Mart shopper and her kid looking to pick up something on the cheap.

What kind of impressions does the imagery in this ad give you? Would you want to identify with it?

What slows a system down is downloading every little trinket and toolbar that you find on the web.

Since i went mac - i found i didn't need all those trinkets.
Quicktime and iLife tools did what i needed in the first place

Please show us this proof, since it doesn't exist? If you find any case where it does, check that the systems are truly comparable.

Fastest: Apple MacBook Pro

The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year (through 10/25/07) is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac. Not a Dell, not a Toshiba, not even an Alienware. The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro's PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway's E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook's score is far more impressive simply because Apple couldn't care less whether you run Windows.

What I love about these commercials is that Microsoft is probably doing us all a big favor in that maybe they can eventually shame (or due to actual loss in sales) Apple into lowering their prices. Let's face it. Their profit margins are way too high. They could easily sell for hundreds less and still make money. Just offering a mid-range tower to compete with the most typical PC configuration for casual use and gaming would be a good start, though....

I think Apple has enough revenue coming in from iPod / iPhone sales to counter any loss in computer sales. I agree with you about the profit margins. Microsoft is doing us ALL a big favor with the aggressive campaign.

This latest ad is the cutest so far. If I ever buy another Windows laptop, it will either be from Sony or be similar to something like the VAIO.

You know....... In general this is a really crappy ad. No information was there of value. I had the sense that they had no clue what they were doing. It was like "oh wow we can get a new computer for free through microsoft!" gee...... I bet. They'll by a mac....... NOT! Bottom line, to a kid physically big = more. Small = less. If mac made a comercial like this, it wouldn't make me buy one. Apple's commecials answer the obvious. That's why we chuckle when we see a mac vs PC ad because it's true. I think microsoft is going to hurt because they only focus on price. In order for microsoft to do better is to make sure windows 7 becomes a excelent user experiance. I support apple for one primary reason, THE OS! Microsofts os is simply ruberish by comparison to leopard. I've used the PC for 12 years and now have been using macs for 5 yrs while also using windows at work durring the entire time. They only use it because quickbooks hasn't come to Canada. Once it arrives my boss is looking at getting lower end iMacs and phasing out pcs completely. There would be less service calls to PC Blues. Kinds funny the name of the 3rd party IT service provider. The spirit of the name means "using a PC brings down your spirits"

Apple ads are clever. They have taste. They appeal to the user's intelligence. Yet they're incredibly simple. They look slick, they sound great. The characters are memorable, and both are equally lovable. They're just as effective at communicating the UNSAID as they are what is spoken.

Yup, at the time of release the Macbook Pro ran Vista quicker than other machines tested. This lasted until October 2007 when the mainstream OEMs overtook Apple's then leading edge hardware. And, as usual, at cheaper cost.

It's also worth pointing out that there were faster OEMs even when the Pro was tested - they just weren't included in PC World's reviews at the time.

This is a myth that really needs to die - a Mac will run Vista pretty much the same as an equivalently specified OEM because they're essentially the same hardware.

I would have agreed about the early ads - the UAC Mac vs PC ad is a classic even if it's a little unfair - however the later ones (Fix Vista) had quite obviously jumped the shark and become a little tedious.

This one was the best ad so far. I don't really like them but they did get Apple on this one, found a "gaming" computer for 1500 bucks with Blu Ray. And it wasn't a crap HP. I still agree with the argument that Apple has about 3% of the market-share and MS is trying to kill them for no reason.

Oh yeah, and this kid is spoiled as hell. My parents would have NEVER paid 1500 dollars for a computer at that age

Mine did:D

Apple Tax, a very important point. Prices should be going down not up in this economy

We are in a recession, not experiencing deflation. Prices of durable goods such as computers do not decrease during a recession. Companies may choose to offer temporary promotions during a recession, but they do not lower their MSRP. Apple can lower the prices of every product they offer today and the prices will go back up as soon as we start to experience inflation. Inflation will be inevitable after our recession from the government's spending. Inflation causes prices to rise. I am not trying to make any political comments, only telling you economics.

Oh wow. The 2.4 GHz MBP was faster than the 2.2 GHz Gateway.

Clearly shows Apple's superior performance on *comparable* systems.

That is so not a gaming machine... in a month, M$ release a follow-up ad:

M$: "You find it, you keep it... mainly because after a month we don't want it back."

Jackson: "I'm 11."

M$: "Jackson, you can do some pretty damn intense gaming on that Sony."

Jackson: "Yeah, mom and I play Minesweeper all the time. I got up to 450 yesterday."

M$: "Congrats, Jackson. It's a PC."

Jackson: "Yeah, we also challenge each other over who can defrag fastest. And cleanup fastest. And run SpySweeper fastest. And run Norton Fastest. And run AdAware fastest. And get through to tech support fastest. And start it up fastest. And Toggle between programs fastest. And Update drivers the fastest. And Configure networks fastest. And set up printers fastest. And troubleshoot the registry fastest..."

M$: "Well, I'm pleased to say I've been error-free for over a week..."

Jackson's Mom: "And I'm not!"

When was the last time you actually had this much trouble with your computer?

Microsoft must really be insecure. I still love how Texas Government told them that VISTA would NOT be on any of there PC"s and I am sure many others have also.

Every time I work on a PC laptop I feel cursed with the "PC Tax" - not having a machine do what I want it to do...

And then there's the lack of a next generation disc format, something the Microsoft fans have been spouting when comparing Mac's to PC's. The PlayStation 3 was Sony's Blu-Ray trojan horse and it worked. The PlayStation 3 is THE Next Generation platform in that it comes with Blu-Ray, 1080p, HDMI, and connectivity out the box.

That's one thing that's very funny. On the PS3 boards, the Microsoft fans say Blu-ray is unnecessary, that HD downloads are where it's at, that it's a dying format and that physical media are worthless.

On the Mac boards, the Microsoft fans make the exact opposite argument.

Either there's 2 camps of Microsoft fans with differing views, or they are just trolling either way, looking for a reaction.

What a load of crap.

More people are using it than OSX, so it can't possibly be the "disaster" that the Mac vs. PC ads portray.

Yeah, because Windows isn't where it is today because of unfair business practices, monopoly abuse and vendor lock-in .

I think you've just made your official coming out as a Microsoft astroturfer with this post AidenShaw. You can stop pretending to "like" Macs now.

So fake!

Why doesn't Microsoft pay for decent actors or scripts. It's so obvious that these are all paid wanna be actors. No one behaves and talks like this when shopping for a PC or even a Mac. Go to best buy and look at the computer department you will see people with stressed out faces trying in vain to avoid the constant barrage of "Can I Help You" I was also amazed how they appeared to have the entire computer department to themselves, they are free to move from computer to computer squealing in delight without bumping into or having to move around a single customer.

As I stated previously anyone who thinks this ad is legit deserves a pos laptop running a pos operating system
