Most just go with the statues-quot and don't know better/different.

Just kidding, no one get all worked up, I'm just having some fun.

No, I'm that small percentage that have tried the 3 mains desktop operating systems. I happen to really like Windows 7. But I'm a Linux user.

I'm also among those who, for a while, worked daily with HP-UX and OpenVMS.

2 Years behind Apple dutifully trying to copy the Apple business plan.

How is MS trying to copy Apple's business plan? As far as everybody knows, MS has been in the mobile business for quite some time now. Now who does it better? That's a different question.

So the question is whether MS will be 6 months behind Apple or 1 year behind Apple when they finally spit this thing out.

All of you Apple fanboys on this site really crack me up. I love reading through these threads. I can name about 100 thing Windows Mobile 6.5 can do that iPhone O/S 3.1.2 cannot and only one (admitedly big) thing that Windows Mobile can't do that the iPhone O/S can (multitouch). And Windows Mobile 7 will probably take care of that one.

Take off your blinders!

Tony

The biggest thing windows mobile 6.5 can do that the iphone can't do is suck hard.

Computers and computing devices are not spec sheets. Use the things in the real world and you see why regardless of your laundry list of things you think it does that the iphone can't do, it doesn't matter, because in the real world for usability and functionality the iPhone destroys windows mobile.

So why don't you live in the real world and not in a paper world of specs.

Thank heavens for Microsoft. Without Windows I could never really truly enjoy my mac experience knowing the horrid reality on the other side.

That's because your brain is hardwired to Apple's OS. I always tell people this, if you grew up using OSX, then you're going to feel lost in Windows, and if you grew up using Windows, then you're going to feel lost in OSX. Unless all the person does is simple things, like browsing the internet. I feel crippled when running OSx, while in Windows I can do pretty much what I want without thinking about it. If people complained because Microsoft moved certain little things in Vista forcing them to change, imagine those people trying OSx.

Sounds like a personal problem.

I used apple IIs when I was young and then used pc dos and windows for pretty much all of the next 20 plus years. I started using Mac OS about 3 years ago, and I love it compared to the windows options then.

I have not spent a lot of time in Windows 7, but if you have trouble moving around in Mac OS after using Windows I don't know what to tell you. It is not difficult at all.

In some areas it is vastly superior.

Well, that must explain why WinMo is so beloved by users and reviewers and why it dominates the smartphone scene.

Take off your blinders!

Yes, Tony, you really should.

Seriously, do you understand irony?

No, I don't...enlighten me.

As for a doomed Apple, you guys had your chance some 15 years ago when Spindler was at the helm, trying to sell the company to the four winds...

Now it's OVER; Apple dominates everything and will surpass MS in market cap in less than 2 years. They're lucky they still have moronic CTOs all over and Office to provide them with some inertial cash cows.

I'm not so sure about the first sentence, but the second is certainly 100% factual.

Hmmm notice the new emphasis on software and hardware integration.......

Here's a thought, let's take the iPad AND Windows Mobile 7, and wait until they're released to decide if they're any good!

Just because it's MS doesn't mean it has to suck.

+1

I'm highly interested in this Windows 8 /windows.next talk about it changing the way we think about windows/computers. Till then, we just have to wait.

The basics are the same, but the hundreds of little things that a person is used to on Windows, makes it a pain in the ass when going to OSX, particularly to someone who does more than web surf on their computers. In other words, I can do hundreds of little things on Windows without thinking, while in OSX and Ubuntu I have to try and figure it out. That can get pretty irritating since it stops the flow. But the main thing that makes me log into my Windows partition as a power user is all of the programs that I use under Windows. I imagine it's the same for someone going from Mac to Windows.

Okay I will say this a different way.

You are wrong and your issues must be your own.

I do a heck of lot more than web surf and check email on my computer.

There are not a lot of little things that are difficult to do on the Mac. Some things do take some adjusting but being able to do a proper web search finds you most of the answers quickly.

If you really find Mac OSX so hard to navigate after using windows, it has to be a personal problem. Fundamentally OSX is easier to use than Windows is.

Please name several of these "little things" you found hard to master on the mac.

I remember when I bought my first Mac. All I can say that there is no learning curve. I did some research before buying and I knew exactly what to do and how it works. Happy since that day.

I wish Ballmer would retire.

Re: Windows Phone
It is a new OS. It's not borrowed from Apple, but then not much is really "original" thought in the iPhone either. Even the name iPhone was licensed from Cisco.

The phone is said to be quicker than the 3gs iphone and even the 4g. Plus, it is multi-touch capacitive. Overall, it is a more integrated and better experience than the next generation iPhone. One thing for sure they are not locked into the same crappy AT&T network like us. :(

Multitasking? I understand that it will accept push technology and pause v. run in the background. That's a better design. Why? Because an app with a memory leak can drain a battery faster than a storm drain in a monsoon. And we all know how well our iPhone batteries last, which is why I have 2 iPhones.

Browsing is supposed to be more integrated along with the zune, xbox, twit stuff too. Apparently iPhones are considering using Bing. Did you know that?

The cons? No apps, well not yet anyway. MS has billions of money to give away to developers. They are standardizing their platform to allow for it.

First, it's simply a rebranding of a previous OS with a few bells-and-whistles instead of anything built from the ground up. A lot of Windows Mobile users and developers will realize this very quickly. The phone is said to be quicker at what exactly 3G/4G performance? Browsing? If you're talking 3G/4G, this is really dependent on the carrier and not necessarily the underlying phone. If you're talking about browsing, then Microsoft has slept on IE development for many years because they are not up to par with Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Opera. Moving on, I really need other applications running in the background like a desktop OS when there's only screen space for one application. This is great resource utilization for a cellular device. In short, we will not know what the phone can and cannot do until it is demonstrated on Monday. However, the consumers will have the last say like that had with the Zune.

Shhhh, you'll wreck the WinBots' propaganda campaign...

Does Windows Mobile still force you to open the task manager to close a program?

I left them at version 2003.
