Says touch screen PCs are useless...then gives examples of people who would find it really useful.
You do realize that majority of artists use Apple products right?

Gross/Hideous? I understand everyone here hates Microsoft, but come on.

People tend to complain about it running Windows, but the truth of the matter is, 90% of the time you're actually USING a program...not tooling around in the OS. Photoshop looks and runs like Photoshop regardless of the OS.

I REALLY wish apple would make something like this. I don't want to make the jump to Windows by any means...but COME ON APPLE!
I have a Windows desktop I use for quite a few things as well as my Macbook Pro. I never said it was hideous because of the OS. The angle it sits, the size, the fact my and many peoples' grimy oils will cover the screen... THAT is the hideousness. A product very very few people will use.

That's not a high price. I think the same machine with the Apple logo would have been $4,500, not $3,000.

Hang on... Microsoft is asking an eye-watering high price for a disappointing processor, last year's model GPU, a slow hybrid disk drive, outdated connectivity, but makes up for it with a unique, innovative and beautiful design, while the 27" iMac gives you more CPU power and all-SSD options for a lower price, but in a generic all-in-one desktop form-factor that hasn't changed for years...

Help! I've fallen through a space-time anomaly into a weird mirror universe! Next thing you'll be telling me is that Microsoft has joined the Linux foundation and released SQL Server for Linux and that the host of The Apprentice is going to be President of the USA.

Where's my medication?

I ran exclusively Windows for the last 4 months (waited for the 2016 MBP).

Windows 10 look nice on the surface (pun unintended), but it's still the same messy OS as it ever was, even more so than before since now you have new "touch friendly" settings and all the old system panels that sometimes goes back to Windows 95 days.

Start menu is still a huge mess to manage, control panel is still a huge huge mess where you need to remember weird path to get to the actual controls you want.

It's a kid's room where everything have been shoved under the bed. Looks clean, but good luck when you are looking for something.

Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows XP, same mess.

(Yes I use my windows computer everyday, cause I have to)

Great way to describe it. I love my SP4, but boy does it give me way more trouble than my MacOS rMBP.

If I was an artist, yes, the Surface seems like a must have.

But I'm a software developer, and nothing here excites me. Only negatives - like Windows.

Put macOS on here, and still... I don't need it. It's another gimmick.

Well reasoned! Astonishing so many will not think through their regular use cases as you have done, and, in the end, are just attracted to a new shiny object that will be burdensome to use on an everyday basis. And that's not even addressing having to use Windows from that point on.

This is a very cool halo product for Microsoft, but truly the only niche I can see this targeting are professional illustrators. You would never get this as a general purpose computer.

Why not? Some college kids have the new Mac Pro in their dorm rooms.

Innovation.

Nooo, not Apple's style (not any longer).

Nobody needs touch and pen input, according to Apple. A touch bar is sooo much better, right?

They said the same thing about a stylus for years. Then they introduce a stylus for a tablet. If they had the vision Microsoft does, then they'd be able to easily understand the usefulness of such an interface on a redesigned desktop.

Like a Touch Bar?

A touch bar MAY be very useful depending on developers producing stuff for it. For photoshop / after effects / 3D I can see hundreds of uses.

It is great bit of kit... but incredibly niche. Price is not that expensive considering a wacom cintiq pen screen that's actually smallers with way worse res is nearly $2.8k

It's like touchscreen monitors for non designers - fun for a bit bit but vertical monitors are hard to use with touch so you jsut go back to a mouse or pen.

I do 3d animation and motion graphics and I am having trouble seeing if it would work for me.. I have 2x4k 32" monitors... cos the apps require so much screen space...

I have been very intrigued by the Surface Book over the last year, so much that I even wanted to switch it from my Mac.

I went and played with it on multiple occasions at Best Buy, and I came away less than impressed. Sure, it has a stylus, but every time you touch the screen, it wobbles back and forth like crazy, making it impossible to use. The trackpad and keyboard are nowhere near as good as my MacBook Pro. I dislike the fact that the screen and chassis don't fully close together, leaving a gap for dust. Also, battery life is not close to the MacBook line. Another thing is that I can get a 2016 15" MacBook Pro base model for the the same price as a Surface Book with Performance Base. The MBP has a better CPU, comes with double the RAM (yes it is LPDDR3 vs the SB's DDR4), a better build, trackpad, and keyboard, and includes industry leading flash storage speeds. I'm not implying that the MBP is the greatest computer ever, but it isn't the dumpster fire everyone's claiming that it is.

Point is, yes Microsoft makes a great product as well. But, Apple does as well, and they still do some things better than the competition. I totally get that some people will be satisfied with switching, but I think some people get ready to up and switch as soon as something that looks better comes out.

It's more iMac-like than the iMac. It's embarrassing for Apple that they still sell the 2015 iMac when this machine is available. All I'll add is that the iMac redesign bar just got raised beyond Apple's reach. The irony of being out designed by Microsoft will be lost to some.

If you compare apples to apples (so to speak), the price is very competitive. What we're really looking at is an iMac combined with a Wacom Cintiq. That adds roughly $1,600 to the price of a higher end iMac, which will run you at least $2,000-ish. Suddenly $3,000 becomes a bargain, and you have less clutter on your desk.

I wish they sold the monitor separate. If I were to go windows it surely wouldn't be whatever they packed into that little box. I would want a full on tower with a high end GPU.

I used this at the Microsoft Store last week and it's definitely better than a Cintiq, but very similar. Problem is that once you exit your Photoshop or drawing application, your stuck in Windows land with a stylus and trying to use your fingers like a mouse.

Ugh. Yeah because there is literally NO OTHER way of interacting with this computer!!

StaffPad blew my mind - the stamp thing is amazing.
Apple has forgotten what the word "Pro" means. This is a first step for MS. I'll bet they beef up the specs on this soon or simply let you hook it to your own tower. You look at this video and realize that the iPad Pro is just a toy. Apple could have purchased Cintiq years ago and owned their technology. But, nope, 16GB of RAM in a Pro laptop and a tiny touch strip is what they feel is all a Pro wants. Wake up Apple. You have fallen behind Microsoft!! You should be embarrassed. I still hate Windows with a passion but this new tool looks impressive.

Have you tried Windows 10? I wouldn't go as far as saying it's better than macOS, but between Apple inexplicably removing useful features from OS X and Microsoft adding a lot of useful features between Windows 7 and 10, I don't miss macOS that much.
Yeah, I think most of the OMG WINDOZE! posts are from people who haven't used Windows 10. Windows used to be pure garbage, but now it is as stable as OS X. Sure, it has annoying quirks, but so does OS X.

It's a great design and they have outdone Mac designers this year with innovation - but it runs Windows!

This is really only meant for designers / creative people on top whack salaries. I imagine architects would use it to show off.

Plus - You are going to need to see a Chiropractor every week if you use it the way they demonstrate in their YouTube videos!
