The only upcoming quality games this year I can think of are probably 'Red Steel' and 'The Conduit'.

Looking at the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, there's hardly any games coming that make you sit up and go, "I must own that".

Gaming, on the whole, is becoming repetitive. It was bound to happen, consumers can only handle so many sequels and clones for so long.

As I said before, my favourite console remains the Dreamcast ... which I imported when it launched in Japan just so I could play Virtua Fighter 3 (I was a huge Sega arcade fan and imported a Saturn before the Dreamcast). It was just a gaming system, nothing more and nothing less, even if it paved the way for online gaming with it's dial up modem and Chu-Chu Rocket!

The Dreamcast is legendary, way ahead of its time.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. Undoubtedly there is repetitiveness in the industry, but that's like saying all war movies are repetitive. I personally cannot wait for Bioshock 2, COD: Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Max Payne 3 etc. All sequels and more or less of the same but still fantastic

And therein lies my point, how many sequels, and to how many average games?

I would only rank Bioshock and Assassins Creed as good games in that bunch, but not great games ... and certainly not AAA titles.

Compared to the heyday of the PlayStation, when titles like Tomb Raider 2 (first sequel to a never before seen genre), Resident Evil 2 (first sequel to a never before seen genre), Gran Turismo, Time Crisis, Final Fantasy 7 (first appearance of the franchise outside a Nintendo 16 bit console), etc were all due i the fiscal year, it shows how far gaming has fallen.

Those days had genuine excitement around the releases, now it's more a case of "meh".

dont you rent music with zune software? that is a huge downside. no thankyou for that!

Its a subscription service like a la Netflix. However unlike Netflix you're allowed to keep some songs at the end of the month (I believe a few posts back someone mentioned that along with the pass you get to keep 10 tracks every month.) This is essentially one included album a month along with your monthly $14.95 fee. I didn't know that aspect so I think that's pretty cool. When I had a Zune I found the subscription service very rewarding without knowing that fact either - it just needs native OS X support. Running the Marketplace in Parallels can be dodgy and consumes a bit of RAM.

Nice work there. But how about you find a marketshare article that isn't a year old and point me out the part where it says the Zune is unprofitable in the second source.

That's the latest one I can find since Microsoft doesn't want to release sales numbers like other companies do. Okay they have sold 3.2 million Zunes since 2006, go calculate the their martketshare. I'm sure 4 % is even generous.

As for your second point, I suggest you go and read the link again. They just reported a loss and the bulk of the profit Entertaiment and Devices group came from the Xbox, since the Zune reported a loss, you can put two and two together..

iTunes is the top music retailer not because of it's business model, but because of the iPod. If and when Apple won't be able to manufacture "omg it's cool" iPod, iTunes will die the day after.
And that's the problem with MS: it's not about subscription model (which does much more sense for people who wanna stay up-to-date without spending a fortune), but about hardware, Zune isn't just as appealing as iPod.

Yawn, what the heck is "if", since ipods and iphones aren't going anywhere, your point is irrelevant. That's like saying windows has all that market share because it has so many hardware manufacturers but if you remove all of them, Windows will cease to exist, so bloody what.

well maybe to microsoft fanboys - it's a big deal. i mean take into account that Apple has about 7% of the overal laptop marketshare if i remember correctly

Pretty lame commercial if you ask me. Music subscription plans didn't quite work out for Napster, and Rhapsody isn't really a viable competitor these days, now is it? So what in the world makes Microsoft think their ZunePass will fare any better?

Yeah but Apple is profitable with their share, Microsoft on the other hand is losing money with the Zunes but some here want to term that a "success" which is laughable.

Does anyone actually know anyone who owns one??? I personally do not.

EPIC FAIL.

Sadly my wife has one that goes with her lame PC. She has had numerous problems syncing the device. She is on her second zune because the first one stopped working right after the warranty expired. I have had to help her several times trying to figure out the cryptic sequences that just about anything microsoft has to offer. Installing the zune software took forever too. I wouldn't recommend one to anybody.

wow. that's the best they can come up with? only microsoft does crap like this
Do what? Make a subscription service or make a misleading advertisement? There are plenty of other subscription services (Rhapsody) and misleading ads (Get a Mac).

I can't seem to find the article again that I was looking at from my phone when I replied to you, but I will continue looking.

As for your second point again I ask you to point out where it says whether or not its making a loss. It says revenue is down but where does it mention profit or loss at all?

Revenue is down means less money from sales. Generally, less money = less profit. Generally speaking. ;)

These arguments come up every time M$ releases one of their ads. The difference between the Mac ads and M$ ads is Apple's are tongue-in-cheek and intended to be hyperbolic and funny. M$ is presenting their ads like they're gospel truth.

I've looked at the facts, facts which were omitted from the advert to suit Microsoft's side of the argument. Who would fill an iPod with only iTunes Store purchases? Realistically?

People import their CD collection to iTunes first and foremost, with iTunes as an option moving forward if people no longer wish to buy/keep physical media. If people wish to continue buying CD's then they will do so and import them to iTunes to transfer to their iPod when on the go.

It's THAT simple.

Oh, I get it, CD's are free and iTunes cost.

I need to try that at the local music store.

Otherwise, rather than being entertaining it's just white-face lies.

Yaay, maximising your offence at their adverts and minimizing others offence at Apple adverts.

Fun the whole family can enjoy

Well, the difference is that I can pick up a CD with 13 songs on it on Amazon for $2.68. The point isn't that music is free, or should be free, it's the comparison the ad makes - which is erroneous. It's like comparing my Corolla to a half-track and passing it off as a reasonable simile.

Actually I'd just say you're biased. ;)
