So... we can hold a Teams meeting while driving, but we can't be trusted to glance at a radar map to avoid the oncoming tornado?

I see...

So when the original Motorola DynaTAC 8000X phone came out in 1982 the manual says not to use while driving and to pull over to the side of the road to use the phone. Why can't people just use common sense and just do what a manual in 1982 told us to do?

And you expect to keep your job? just asking....we live on it and management can see when you're not on
I have a large team and I expect them to unplug and unwind so they have a life outside of work. In the long run, no one will remember if you were not always available. But your kids will know if you missed their important events.

Waiting patiently for an Apple Silicon version to drop.
Came here to say this, disappointed it wasn't mentioned. Teams runs 8 hours a day for me on my laptop, and it would be great if it was optimized for Apple Silicon like the rest of the Office Suite.

Agree. I really do hope that Tesla comes out with an App Store where we are able to select native apps like this as well as expand the streaming radio services (2018 Model S owner).
Can’t Tesla’s just run carplay and Android auto? Why distract themselves with developing an AppStore etc when the company just needs to focus on improving the overall technology of the car itself as a priority?

No reason Tesla couldn’t do it of course, but as Steve Jobs said, sometimes you just have to know when to say no.

Just what we need - more distracted drivers. For those who use a vehicle as an office, this should only work if the car is parked!
So how is this any different than the calls feature baked into the iPhone/Carplay?

Because this only allows call functionality. They're not letting you watch shared screens or all the other items. It's basically the same screen for iPhone calls. You get to mute/unmute yourself and that's about it.

That's a pretty irresponsible feature. I'd rather see them spend their energy in better collaboration features instead of luring people into start using teams while driving a car.

It's not to use "Teams" in the car but the "phone app" bundled into Teams. It's confusing. Anyone that works in an office has VOIP for their phone system. Microsoft sells that same service but if you don't have a hard phone, within Team's is a "phone" app for voice mail and making telephone calls.

My office phone/work phone number is through Teams. It's only the telephone feature that will work in CarPlay. So when I'm driving if I need to make a work-related call, the call goes through Team's and not my personal cell phone, which is great for caller ID and the like.

In IOS, if someone calls my work number (when you have the Team's IOS app installed), it logs that call into the call history in the IOS phone app and the Team's app. Currently, you called me and I called you back using the recent calls in CarPlay, the call comes from my personal phone and caller ID sends that number. Then, if someone leaves me a voice mail, the voice mail is in the team's app, not my IOS voice mail tab in the phone app so I can't have Siri play it or access it without manually opening the Team's app on my phone which is annoying.

This will be useful for listening to voice mails and making outgoing calls (incoming calls already pop up in CarPlay). Not many people have Microsoft Calling plans, but for those who do this is a nice update!

Ooooh... this sounds nice.

Tesla and Microsoft should work on bringing Teams to Tesla's vehicles. As always, Tesla should avoid having Apple/Google's middleware crap in between - actual native apps made by a competent developer are far superior to CarPlay, which is like having a Mac run Remote Desktop to access Microsoft Office.

Completely and totally disagree. Those apps will be left untended to because there aren't a significant enough number of people using it. CarPlay is absolutely superior since the app is running on the actual device with the network connection and mirroring the display for controls only...and when you switch cars, no matter the manufacturer (except Tesla), everything goes with you. One day, Tesla is going to give in to this, sorry to burst your bubble.

Is it just me or is Teams becoming the next IBM Notes? It’s doing way too much and is overly bloated.
It's actually becoming a single portal for all of M365. That's the intended end goal for Teams, email will be there next and Outlook will start to work its way out the door. The guy who designed the original Outlook app is actually the same person designing Teams.

If you have Outlook open all day, like most people in the world, this will be that thing you have open all day instead. Also, if you use a device that has no office suite, all you need is one app for everything.

What about using the built in notification system? Or respecting system dark mode?

These are the sort of things that sneak in with updates like what you see with CarPlay. MS has a dedicated iOS team, it's likely these won't be the only changes to the iOS app with this release.

So many people are missing what's going on here...
Agreed. The response is hilarious. I already use Teams with CarPlay. This is just slightly deeper integration. Nobody is forcing you to use Teams in your car. If you don't want to use it, log out. For those of us who find making work phone calls while driving useful, it's absolutely no different than any other phone call.

That article does a good job at explaining why talking is still a distraction. You end up having to multitask and juggle your focus on the road, listening to the speaker, forming responses in your head, and speaking them back. Just because your eyes are on the road during a call doesn't mean your headspace is, and accidents can happen so fast that even what we think is just a small distraction can still be pretty major.
The people that would use this are the same people that would connect to the meeting using the app and their camera while driving. I've been in meetings where someone calls in from their car with the camera on, so this would be a little better than that.
