Why do I have feeling this will be something that either Apple has or will be coming out with? My first thought is some phone thing.

Gee, I should stay up all night for this

Anything that will make my MS stock go up so I can sell it at less of a loss is fine by me. I'd love to see it go to $50 for just one day so I can sell it.

The device Microsoft will unveil will likely be a Multi-touch Zune like device. Similar to the iPhone, but Microsoft like. It's currently not known if the device will be a phone, or just a new model Zune.

I have to agree with this post.Balmer is yet again taking a page out of Apple's playbook.Apple lawyers better be prepared to go to court once again with M$.

You guys are going to laugh when you see it, but it might have something to do with Multitouch. Didn't Apple come out with that first?

Dang it spent to much time with the editor open. Someone beat me to it.

Excited?

Now if Apple were to announce something like this, I would get excited, very excited and stay up to see what it was. But because Microsoft have said it, I just don't feel excited or compelled to stay up as I have had a busy day.

The new product is called the msPhone Deluxe Business Starter Edition 2008 and will not be compatible with Windows Mobile, but instead run on a new OS entitled Windows Phone. It will also make use of a One-Button mouse, that Microsoft is claiming to have invented.

"something totally new coming out of the Entertainment and Devices division, and it's going to change the way people interact with technology"

so original. i think i heard the same words when they were about to launch the origami fiasco.

It's a subscription model for their Vista pricing. Instead of having to choose between 4 different versions, you pay with Zune points. They charge you for the features that you use. The part that you "have to see to believe" is that it will credit you back for every blue screen of death and virus that you get.

I don't think MS could just throw something together after apple announced they were working on a phone. It takes at least a couple of years to develop a phone business line.

About the only intelligent thing MS could do is make their phone available to all cellular services, not just one.

Other than that, their design will dictate it's proliferation.

At least one place is claiming Microsoft is ready to unveil "Milan" multi-touch

From the article:

Currently, the Milan Project sits in Microsoft’s Mobile and Entertainment Division (MED), according to my tipsters. (MED is the Microsoft business unit that spearheads Xbox, Zune and Windows Mobile devices.)

(Still no word back from anyone from Microsoft regarding my request for a comment on PlayTable/Milan. Sounds like no one is sanctioned to talk about this until May 30 or so, from what I’m hearing.)

If it is Milan being released, I doubt there'll be any shipping product that uses it. It'll be Microsoft's answer to Apple's Multi-touch, and it'll take a long time to ship while the iPhone will get released next month.

So is Ballmer going to squeeze his erm, ample frame into a black turtleneck for this one? Maybe Gates will do the launch for it and get all misty eyed about being privileged to be a part of such ground breaking revolutionary products like the...err, and not forgetting the...uhhhh and now introducing the "iNothing Like Anything Apple Does at All...Honest", he'll be changing the world again.

Should be a hoot.

How about an iZunes Music store and ZuneTV?

Okay, I'm a die-hard Apple buyer and fan. Everything I own is Apple. I even have an Apple decal on my van. I'm buying the iPhone when it comes out, and the 2nd generation of it when it comes out. I will be purchasing a new computer as soon as it is loaded with Leopard.
:apple:
With this in mind...

I think it's pretty smart for Microsoft to try to jump the iPhone, as I'm sure they can't compete with it. Maybe a ZunePhone can outsell a pre-market iPhone, but it can't outsell an actual iPhone once it is for sale. Even if, and I bite my tounge saying this, even if it can do more and have a better price, etc. I wouldn't want one. It's just not my cup of tea. I can't stand Windows OS or anything close to it. So no thank you.
:apple:
I think this is great news to all Apple Fans. Maybe this new MS device will help lower prices for us, etc. I say "Hurrah! FOR THE ZUNEPHONE/ZUNETV/IZUNE MUSIC STORE, OR WHATEVER IT IS. I don't want it even if it is loaded with both calculator and clock.:D

It also sounds like it will be for devices that are substantially larger than phones/portable music players, given that it involves placing several cameras behind the touch surface.

To honour decades of customer loyalty, Microsoft will be releasing the revolutionary Sack o'***** TM, a patented, revolutionary sack o'*****, especially for your delectation.

Me? I'm off to bed. Good luck to those who can be bothered to stay awake. Let me know what happened, eh?
