... If it is Milan being released, I doubt there'll be any shipping product that uses it. It'll be Microsoft's answer to Apple's Multi-touch, and it'll take a long time to ship while the iPhone will get released next month.

No, not likely a finished "product"... just an "new" interactive interface, e.g. mutli-touch. Quoting from the announcement -- (it's) "going to change the way people interact with technology"

It is sad that less than two weeks to WWDC, and the news highlights on a Tuesday no less are new products rumors from MS and Palm, especially after the slow start that Apple has had this year.
In case you missed it.

iPhone announced - great!
AppleTV reannounced - shipping when, ok still great!
Airport Extreme N - pretty good.
Colored Shuffles - really who cares!
8-Core Mac Pros - but no new SS chipset.
& MacBooks with RAM and speed bumps only - less interesting than the lame Mac Pro update.

iMacs?
MacBook Pros?
Minis?

hello Apple. 2007 it's only the beginning of what?

and oh yeah, if you're not tired of waiting yet, Leopard delayed till Oct, probably iLife and iWork too.

And yet Apple's sales are higher than ever. For "lame" products, the public seems pretty damn excited about them.

I'm somewhat excited. This and the Palm announcement can't be anything but good news for consumers. Increased competition! I expect that both announcements will be in the handheld computing area -- into which Apple is about to complete its slow reentry.

So three proven hitmakers (you can knock MS portables all you want, but let's just say I wouldn't kick 'em out of bed for eating crackers) releasing products about the same time. COMPETE FOR MY BUSINESS, BITCHES! OH YEAH! SLURP ON MY WALLET A LITTLE! OH, YES! YES! YES! (oh, be gentle, easy there)

The year is only half gone, I think that Apple will dazzle us with amazing products by the end of the year, you have to give apple some time.

Sounds plausible. But, I don't see anything "revolutionary" there. Other than selling a music player which is just way too small and tied to a single set of headphones ... all the "benefits" seem to be minor expansions of the already old Zune suckage.

In any case, here's hoping Microsoft can pull something interesting from it's posterior. But, I'll read about it tomorrow morning; it's not even worth logging on at 9:30 to see what they did.

BTW, interesting that they got the same "Fairplay conversion" bait as we saw with the Zune originally. Not sure what to make of that, but interesting.

It's a pity Apple don't use this event to launch the new iPod (with wide touch-screen etc). Would probably piss all the other companies off since Apple would get all the press coverage. :D

Anyway, chances are they have just ripped off the Wii's controller.

Hmmm... Well

I hope the Palm device with Linux based OS is the greatest phone since... right under the iPhone. For the people that don't want to switch, it will be the next best choice.

The new product from MS will be sh** Even it is rocks, it won't make a lot of fuss since it most likely won't function properly, and it will run off of Vista or some other sh**y MS software with bugs and virii in it.

If they were smart... it would be a PC that runs Mac OS X. Other than that, maybe a new brown colored Zune or Sh*tPhone or something that will disgrace the MS name, but idiot MS fanboys will buy it even if it is junk.

I bet it's zPhone, and it will have Microsoft Multi-touch, where you use two styluses instead of fingers!:D

The chopsticks edition!

No, I think I have it -- with tagline.

Zune 2.0: We think this one will break the one-million-unit barrier.

I predict it will be the classic MS move: preannounce a vaporware product that will be "released real soon now... honest" intended to steal the thunder of another product that scares them. In this case, the iPhone is the obvious device they will target and I'm sure they're going to try to hype up some Zune-based phonestrosity to scare all the business buyers away from Apple.

I think, and hope, you´re right. A company can only do so many of those announcements before people start turning their backs, not believing the hype. I think MS lost a lot of credibility with Longhorn/Vista, with a pre-announcement, Gates is going to look bad – and get slain by Mossberg. Bet Jobs will throw in a good remark or two as well.

My guess is that they will announce is something of a personal do-it-all device: phone, media remote, home environment controller, extended office unit, bird magnet type of thing.

Read it and it sounds like crap...

Too small, how do you control the device?

Drag and drop your music, no software for auto syncing, finding your highest rated songs, or certain artists... WTF is so revolutionary about that.

Headphone sleeve combo, so you will be stuck with a crappy pair of MS head phones made by some crappy cheap headphone company?

Hmm... me thinks not.

What are people getting worked up about?
I happen to have first hand knowledge about this.
Microsoft has decided that the best way to get people excited about security patches is to hold an event. Make it exciting.:)

And if anyone falls for this you are nuts!!!

I call something really off-the-wall. Like, a Microsoft touch-screen camera or something. Some kind of 'Zune Cola!' beverage, maybe.

You are right... Microsoft finally finished Vista.

Not sure what the product is but the tag line will be:

Welcome to the Social
No really, this time.

I'm thinking it a portable gaming system to compete with the PSP and DS, they said the Zune name wouldn't just be for the MP3 player...

So, im guessing some sort of Zune/Xbox portable...

Sounds like the most logical delivery from Microsoft... but that's not really all that new of a product. I wonder if you'll be able to transfer games from your xbox and play them without having a disc... hrm.

Bah.
