So..microsoft made a pro over the mbp that the keyboard detached?? Then why on earth they made the surface laptop? They always said surface pro is the device that replace your laptop and after 3 years they make a laptop without detachble keyboard
Fkkking hypocrisy..microsoft stop copy and follow samsung in hypocrisy

The kickstand still makes it entirely impractical to use on a lap, unlike, y’know, a laptop.
The only thing I’m envious of is pen support—not touch and not the detachable keyboard (I prefer convertible). Oh and it has the applications I need, but that will even out eventually, and until then I’ll stick with my Intel Mac laptop.

The kickstand would be cool for the iPad Pro maybe.

Please no. Never understood the appeal of the kickstand. You can never use it on your lap and take up way too much table space. That's why they invented laptops.

Why is it wasting money?
The Surface laptops are seriously good in comparison with other Windows alternatives. Besides, with a transition to ARM, Microsoft has a golden opportunity to launch ARM first in their computers and have a significant competitive advantage.
It makes sense.
Yeah I don't think the Surface line is a waste of Microsoft's money - but it's not enough to maintain a retail presence currently of their own admission (along with Xbox and what not of course).

Surface products are quite nice compared with the other OEM Windows laptops coming out. It's the one instance I'd rather have an American designed laptop rather than say a Japanese one (those new VAIOs are pretty neat but expensive for instance... but those ports!)

Nobody has a perfect product for all workflows and intended use cases - they specialize just like we all do in our respective industries and professions.

I agree, there's real benefit in the same company being responsible for both the hardware and software. If I used Windows, which would only happen if my job somehow forced me to, I'd use a Surface.

These mac vs pc ads always perplex me. If you like MacOS, you get a mac, period. If you like windows, you get a windows machine. That said, the Surface Pro 7 (x86 version) is a terrific computer if you need windows. It is VERY good.

This ad has clearly been designed for the middle / upper middle class tween that tells their parents what to buy for them. I’m not sure how big that market is, or how effective it will be, but it’s why the ad falls flat for macrumor forum members. My guess is they want to hook them earlier so they grow into older MS buyers.

A better comparison is the new ipad air with pencil and magic keyboard compared to the the Surface 7

The laughable part in all of this is PC owners buy PCs and Mac owners buy Macs... it's just the way of the Universe.

Sure there are those rare exceptions to the rule, but from a marketing standpoint... it's a waste of time trying to convince them to switch sides... take political party lines as a perfect example of how entrenched people are in regards to this.

On that note... ever find it fascinating that Macs, hands-down the most expensive computers on the planet... are built in the same pennies on the dollar countries as the PCs are? Imagine the profit ratio per Mac compared to a PC... no wonder Tim Cook can afford to buy several third world countries...

Huh? Are you sure you read my post correctly? I said a kickstand might be useful on an iPad.
I’m really not sure why you’re bringing up a laptop as a solution to standing up an iPad, but either way, your assertion that kickstands take up way too much table space and that laptops somehow don’t have that issue (??) is completely backwards. A kickstand takes up the smallest possible amount of table space, and laptops take up the most possible (same with magic keyboard).
The appeal of the kickstand on a tablet is having a lightweight, solid, built-in solution to stand the device up, instead of having to use a thick heavy floppy folding cover stand that doesn’t have adjustable angles.

Too late, I already have the M1. I do have a Surface Pro 3, but I might pick up a Windows device in the future for the fun of it. Its likely not gonna be in the Surface line though, because of the compatibility issues with VirtualBox, which I prefer to use over Hyper-V.

AND fry an egg at the same time

It's amazing how for the past few years that has been the biggest issue people have had with the MBA/MBP then all of a sudden the M1 comes and that gets forgotten. Wouldnt worry though, Apple will have something waiting to replace that issue with soon enough.

Same thing was said about PowerPC and look where it ended up. Already seeing a lot of lightly used M1s dumped on OfferUp.

Likely because a heap of YouTubers were buying all three models to review and didn’t want to keep them all.

I have an M1 Mac Mini that I bought so I could give my daughter my 2018 MBP for starting high school this week. I’ll be selling that as soon as the 14” M1(X/M2) MBP is released. It doesn’t mean I think the M1 Mac Mini is crap....far from it, it’s a beast.

The price is actually a really good point...if I was a Windows guy I would go with surface 100%. Now imagine in the future Surface has a chip similar to M1...

Of course I do hate Windows, I am just saying if you are a Windows guy.
