The system is great... To compete against the iPhone 3g.

This is 2010. Get copy and paste. Get third party camera support. Get multitasking. You're behind the ball Microsoft.

You just confirmed that iOS was way behind the curve until June, 2010. ;)

I'm looking forward to trying some of these. WP7 looks good, and I hope it succeeds.

I think Apple, Microsoft and Google all should make their OSes and phones as good as they possibly can be, and be really good. That way the consumers win.

Competition is GOOD for us consumers, so I'm happy that Win Phone 7 is coming out. I highly doubt that I'll buy a WP7 device, but its mere existence in the market place means that Apple will be forced to improve the iphone and lower prices. So as long as Microsoft doesn't pull any anti-competitive BS that inhibits the iPhone in any way, then I say "Yay, Win Phone 7!"

Mirror Mirror

The smartphone OS landscape may now resemble the PC OS market in a way.

Apple - iPhone - One Phone (per year), Tightly Locked System.
Linux - Android - Totally Open, Fragmented, Unsupported Updates, etc.
Microsoft - WP7 - Lots of Phones, Not an iPhone but good enough and Cheap

The Zune Phone has landed.
Yes! yes! I weep tears of joy that two minds should be so in concert on that thought of a ZUNE PHONE! Look out Apple, hide Steve, hide! Hubs? What a ***** brilliant idea. I don't know what it means, but it does sound groovy and slightly hip to me. I am sure we will love it.

Oh, and announcing it on a holiday, brill move. And making a big deal of it but not having actual product to back up what you are talking about is not where you can afford to be. Microsoft is the underdog here and it would have behooved them to have the phones up and ready for action.

It's a train wreck.

"People who are passionate about software should make their own hardware." This is what Apple does brilliantly. Only 1 device, the iPhone, has caused the ousting of Nokia's head guy, HP's acquisition of Palm, Microsucks to try, again, with WinPhone 7. 1 little device that changed the mobile world. Where would we be if Apple did not "reinvent the phone"?

Such juvenile comments. I personally think its not a bad attempt at all and it plays to Microsoft's strengths. That said the tiles could do with some polish.

I played with two last week. LG's and Samsung's version. It is awesome. The experience feels organic and feels like an atmosphere. As opposed to phones nowadays (my iPhone included) is just a set of buttons.

P.S. However, I would not trade my iPhone for one of these.

What are you talking about? They had 9 handsets at the keynote and it's not a holiday today in the US.

So many posts trying to mask their insecurities with smug and/or sarcastic replies. Some of you guys love your iphones so much you should have sex with them.

Windows 7 is dead? You might need a reality check.

You mean without Apple we would not have what we have today.

With lots of competition in the cell phone and smart phone market, we had tons of crappy cell phones and smart phones.

Competition was accomplishing nothing.

Then Apple introduced the iPhone and everything changed. Now every smart phone looks like an iPhone, before none of them did.

Don't give competition too much credit. In the case of phones and smartphones it has delivered very poorly.

Or the small companies Apple bought.

What's funny is how the exclusive iPhone service provider (AT&T) is calling Windows Phone 7 their smart phone corner stone and releasing 3 phones.

Hoorah! Competition :)
Hopefully it will make Apple move a bit faster, come out with updates quicker... and maybe even a white iP4 haha

I find the stuff you guys/gals type to be amazing...wow. Apple really has some of you hooked.

K. Just making sure haha

better late than never doesn't really apply to the technology field.

Little too late, just like the Zune

Also, "different" has many meanings and I don't think it is in your favor Microsoft

Ahh windows 7 phones, 9 to choose from. im flattered with choice. i might buy the one called the iPhone which is the one that Ballmer seemed to have quoted
