Oh, great! It rearranges itself all the time? I'll never find anything!

Must be hard living your life when the clock displayed on the iPhone's homescreen gets changed every minute.

Seriously, are you people that dense that you don't understand the concept of seeing weather/time/date and other data updates on the locked home screen ? Something Android has been doing for quite a while and one of the first mods the jailbreak community did.

Would it really hurt Apple to not force me to unlock the phone, browse to the weather app, select the proper city before I get to the current temperature ?

Thats one thing I love about Android is all the widgets I have customized on my home screen. I get a constant stream of data that I choose. I can literally look at my home screen and get just about any information I need without doing anything except entering my security pin.

"...one that makes everyday tasks faster by getting more done in fewer steps and providing timely information in a 'glance and go' format."

Right, that's the iPhone you're talking about. Has been out for a few years. Congrats on joining the party.

Not in this lifetime do I see MS delivering on that promise. This is just more Ballmer ********. He and his company just can't cash the checks their mouths are writing. Zuuuuuuuuune....

iOS is in software version 4.x. Windows Mobile just released software version 7? And feature wise it is behind or on par with iOS 2. So they'll catch up to where Apple is now when they get to 14?

Can I ask how many of you own Xbox 360s? It seems a lot of you hate Microsoft, but all the comments here were pretty much exactly what they said when MS launched the Xbox.

IMO PS3 is miles better than the Xbox 360 (RROD + pay to play online), but still look at how much damage MS has been able to do.

The smartphone OS landscape may now resemble the PC OS market in a way.

Apple - iPhone - One Phone (per year), Tightly Locked System.
Linux - Android - Totally Open, Fragmented, Unsupported Updates, etc.
Microsoft - WP7 - Lots of Phones, Not an iPhone but good enough and Cheap

Good observation. It is in their DNA.

Well hopefully Win7 Mobile will be 100x better than the previous version. I loved my HD2 except for the Windows Mobile OS. I actually liked that phone better than the iPhone except it lacked iOS or a decent OS for that matter. Worst-most-miserable 4 weeks of my mobile life :p

While the tiles may not be visually appealing to a lot of people, they do illustrate that iOS' UI is in need of an overhaul.

There are two ways to operate in tech.

Apple - make stuff that works, innovate and truly give a user experience worth taking part in.

M$ - make stuff knowing someone will buy it, you'll make some profit, so you really don't care if it works or about the user's experience as long as you can rip them off. Worked for Windows. Probably will work to some degree for them with Windows Mobile 7. I can see the campaign brewing now. We want to be in that market. "We've got crap for that." What they couldn't get HTC or Samsung to make them a brown phone.

Not a fan of the GUI.. how they use the large text and it gets cut off constantly

I know it's 'artsy' but it's really poorly designed.

Cool, 3rd party apps! What an innovation! Will there be an app store? Will it be "Zune-like"?

LOL love watching MS slip further into the gaping maw of the volcano

Yeah because Apple came up with the concept of apps

Might wanna do your research on Androids before making yourself look like another troll.

Very late to the game ... but competition is competition, hopefully we get some innovative minds working, get some new ideas going.

These criticisms were EXACTLY the same when MS unveiled the Xbox. Oh they are going to fail, they should pull out the market.

Look at the fanbase they have managed to build with the Xbox 360. Can you imagine what the market would have been like if MS was never there?

So how many of your Apple fans own an Xbox 360, realising that it is made by MS, the company you hate the most?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

Please remember folks, without competition, we wouldn't have what we have today.

This thread will be interesting and full of trolls however.

You mean not interesting and full of trolls. Since this is an Apple site, all you're going to see is hating. I've used some beta-7 phones and as a phone, it'd work much better for me than the iPhone. Maybe not for websites and apps, but as what the device is supposed to be. A PHONE!!!

Android ? Try Symbian and J2ME. 3rd party apps have been here for cellphones for close to a decade if not more now.

The handsets look very nice, and the OS is a fresh take on mobile computing, as opposed to being another iOS clone. I don't think WP7 will do well in the marketplace, but I applaud Microsoft for doing something different.

The boyz in Redmond need to hone what they own. To really make this OS sell, they need to court the business customers with VPN transparency, Office, network share, portal space and file integration. Not saying it doesn't have it, just not advertising right.

Also, capitalize on the Xbox crowd. How about a Halo edition? Downloadable Xbox titles? Gadget store for widgets?

Google took the Microsoft strategy of '86 and stole the good ideas (remember Windows 1.0 anyone). Redmond isn't in with Apple enough to know what is coming next so as others have said, they are a Me-Too phone.
