Not sure how you can think they're the same.

  • The iPhone is app centric with a static homescreen.
  • WP7 is data centric with a dynamic homescreen.

Different philosophies.

Thank you for pointing that out. Apple has things to learn from Android, webOS, and now, Windows Phone 7.

The static homescreen and dull grid system will have to go at some point. People will want to dynamically interact with a living, breathing OS as we go forward IMNSHO.

I also wouldn't want my text messages, my last few emails, my upcoming appts., or who has called me on there....

But there are people out there who do! They must be catered to!

Some people rely on their home screen to get the weather! If you can't ask them to get up and open a window, why make them go through a swipe and a touch to get the weather? THIS IS CRUCIAL INFORMATION.

Yes choice is nice. But pandering to every whim and desire of the consumer is crippling. So choose a different phone and don't try to cripple ours.

Yes, people all like the same thing.

No room for both philosophies, Apple just has to go with what the other guys are doing, because god knows that their way is selling terribly...

This thread is pure comedy in a bag. Many posts from insecure Apple enthusiasts who have nothing better to do than slam the competition.

The competition usually SUCKS. Is Microsoft any better this time? Run by the same fools that were there four years ago. Anything change? Nope. So why do we have to take a balanced view of these clowns in Redmond?

For chrissakes it took them at least SEVEN YEARS to get their core business right! These dumbasses didn't even *see* Apple coming in 2007, never even imagined it.And they're still trying to shoehorn a full OS onto absolutely nasty hardware and pass that junk off as an "iPad-Killer." They try a new one every month. Instead of taking risks and starting from scratch, this old and tired dinosaur of the tech world hangs on to old and dying paradigms like their life depended on it: oh yeah, that's right. It does. Windows + Office. ZZzzz . . .

Screw em. I'm not obligated to say pleasant or "fair" things about them for the sake of balance or whatever. I believe they're a sinking ship run by fools and these days you don't even need to try their crap out before you know it won't hold a candle to the stuff Apple comes up with.

Am I supposed to *not* slam a company run by Ballmer? LOL

Mon cherie, it IS a holiday in the US! It is Columbus Day and the mail, she does not get delivered on Columbus Day. Oh, and they may have 90 handsets at the keynote, but you can buy none of them now! Bwah ha ha ha!

So, was the iPhone available for purchase the day news of it broke?

So, you'd rather keep the bubble pop up notification system that you have to address, regardless of what you're doing?

Look, I'm not a fan of MS or anything, very far from it. And I used the term "innovate" loosely. I'm not saying this is revolutionary or anything like that, but it's something DIFFERENT.

You have the iPhone.
The iPhone knockoffs.

And now WP7, which doesn't look like an iPhone knockoff.

I'm pleasantly surprised MS didn't decide to copy Apple on this one, even if they are way late to the party.

That's all I'm saying. Plus I'm a fan of the UI, although I don't think I could ever bring myself to get a WP7 phone...*shudder*.

I like your reasoning. I think it was a wise fundamental approach.

That said, can we still make jokes about it?:)

Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Like I said, there is room for both, some like one approach, others like the other.

it's enterprise ready. my company will buy them.

Didn't make them any money before. Years of that strategy produced year after year of mobile division losses.

Unless, of course, MS has no real profit motive and is there to grab market share for reasons they don't even know themselves. That would not surprise me.

You keep showing you have no clue what Microsoft does. A sinking ship? Far from it. As long as Exchange, Sharepoint, Clustering, Serving, SCCM, etc. are around Microsoft will always be a major player.

You don't feel it can be improved upon at all? Are you willingly disillusioned? Have you used webOS or Android?

A conundrum

Microsoft announcing windows-based phones is a lot like trees falling in the woods. It makes you wonder if anyone will notice or not.

innovate? like apple did when they purchased fingerworks? that kinda innovation. other then that what did apple innovate back in 2007?

1. Ease of use

2. Combination of all items as a single unit

3. Great looking piece of equipment

Why do you think Apple have sold millions and millions while MS is struggling to get off the ground

Ah, you are missing the subtle point I was trying to make: it would have been a slick trick to have had the phones there ready for action (purchase) when announced. Something new and different such as: get the customer fired up and let them have what you are talking about Right Now.

Oooo, think of this: maybe there will be a Vista for smartphone! Zune + Vista=Zusta Phone<3

how many iPads were available at the keynote in January?

I love it how some people around here find it completely inconceivable someone would not want to buy an iPhone. C'mon, wake up people and get out. Take a look at all the other cellphones around you. There's plenty of people with other phones who are happy as a clam and don't really care about this rat race. The more cellphones are made, the more competition and choice us consumers will have.

Posts like Cut and Paste being old news. Really? Apple just got it a year ago - after many many many phones had it before.

Look how many phones there are - total confusion. Right - because it's much better to only have ONE choice when you're looking for any device? There's nothing wrong with having choices. Whether it's a mac or pc. Whether it's Verizon, Sprint, AT&T. Whether it's the iPhone or other phones. Everyone has different wants and needs from their device. If they ONLY had one phone - they might not sell as many - or they'd hear the same constant complaints Apple iPhone users have as to why their phone doesn't have X feature.

People saying it sucks without ever actually using it.

and so on

I'm not a troll. I enjoy my Apple products. I'm just constantly amused by the incredible lack of maturity and blind devotion to a manufacturer that it warrants such childish retorts. But I shouldn't be that surprised - should I?

Partially agreed. But what does it say about people who come in to bash apple products? A little defensiveness is warranted and expected. This is, after all, a kind of playground for apple enthusiasts.

I don't disagree with a whole lot. What I am saying is that MS has never been a leader, but a follower.....does not have to be a copier. Every smart phone industry woke up after the release of iPhone.

I guess nobody here knows anything about Microsoft except Windows.
