Exclusives mean they're console dependent. You're never gonna get Halo on a PS4. You're never gonna get Uncharted on an XBox. You're never gonna Mario on either.

Well? Yeah? Your point being?

Not sure where some of this info is coming from, but I watched the live presentation and and "always on" internet connection is not required.
This was stated during the presentation.

Older XBOX 360 game fee????
It can't play them, so how can you be charged for them?

The rental issue was never discussed, so it sounds like someone is making stuff up here.

You should google and try to keep up.

Microsoft has a reputation for releasing faulty products when under time pressure or adding new features pressure.

I'm going to predict Xbox One arrives late and is problematic.

We're an Xbox360 and PS3 household. I expect we'll upgrade. We may wait for the upgraded Xbox One units or wait and see what transpires.

I don't understand all that Xbox One is going to be able to do, don't care for it and expect that being outside the US it won't be fully functional.

Time will tell.

I just went digging for some new Kinect info, and this is how it sees environments...

Image

...which is nothing more than a higher res version of the old Kinect. It can detect wrinkles in your clothes and facial expressions, but it can't tell what brands your wearing, or who you're with.

Hell, you can't even use it for blackmail. The image is too mushy. :(

That's just the IR sensor, the Kinect combines 3 or 4 different video feeds, that was just one of them.

This is a good place to see exactly what the kinect is capable of, pay attention to the voice filtering as well ;)

I stand corrected.

Though I still think MS using it to record who you're with, what you're wearing, what you're saying, and what you're doing to spy on your for marketing purposes is a lot of paranoid BS.

...and probably illegal.

Ever used a credit card or been online? It's not illegal if you are referred to as User h4X321#211 ("anonymized") instead of John Smith.

Interesting documentary for anyone who thinks this kind of thing isn't pervasive already: http://documentary.net/panopticon-the-documentary-about-your-privacy/

I'm not buying a tinfoil hat anytime soon, but it's always good to know that companies like google can use DPI (deep packet inspection) or other methods to read your email...for marketing purposes of course.

There's that, but your image and voice aren't anonymized. Using the Kinect camera and mic to gather data on you would be roughly the equivalent of wiretapping your phone to figure out what kind of cereal you like to eat.

edit: though MS could say you're actively buying into the system of your own volition, and that should be considered an opt-in to being recorded and filmed for advertising purposes. That'd put it more into a legally dark grey area.

What I'm saying is when MS finally moves to selling off that data (as every company in the last decade has once gathering enough information to classify user types) they will release an API that "anonymizes" data to be sold off. You're voice won't be there or your picture, but everything else from your emotional states (camera/voice recognition combined) to certain stimuli, to your average use cases will be sold.

As for your edit, definitely a defense to be used if a lawsuit ever comes up.

Microsoft blew it....

This Console is useless outside America, we can't use all that tv stuff.
The games ... Really ? ANOTHER cod , another forza....

GG microsoft , gg

They're an American company. Are you arguing that Microsoft shouldn't have included features in the Xbox that are only useful here? That if everybody can't use it then nobody should get to use it? Just because you can't use it where you live doesn't mean that Microsoft "blew it."

I'd probably...maybe...sorta be alright with that. As long as my name, voice, and picture aren't being sold to dozens of companies who want me to buy a pair of shoes from them, I'm begrudgingly alright with it.

I'd class it in the same category I put Google services under. Kinda creepy, but ultimately harmless.

The one thing that'd make or break MS' case in this situation would be how they're informing you that they're using the Kinect to collect usage data. If it's somewhere you're likely to see it, like smallish bold print someone on the box, or on a piece of paper packed in on top of the console itself, then they can say there was a reasonable chance of you being informed of this fact, and you don't have a case against them.

But if it's one or two lines buried under 60 pages of EULA text, I doubt they'd have a leg to stand on.

If you use Gmail Google data mines all the emails you send/receive and users consent to this by agreeing to the ToS. Key words and phrases are looked for and that's how Google, and/or it's partners, know what ads to throw your way.

MS wouldn't keep actual audio and video because that's space intensive and hard to search through. What that might do is keep track of key words and phrases (saved as text) and potentially logos and/or other easy to ID visual queues (again, saved as text). There won't be photos of you sitting in an MS database somewhere, but there could be a text document saying that Kinect recognized 4 Nike logos, 1 Packers logo, 1 NFL logo, and 1 cheerios logo yesterday. Or something like that.

I'm not putting a tin foil hat on either, but the only thing that keeps these companies honest is the threat of consumer backlash. I mean, FB, Google, Apple, MS, etc., would all document every aspect of our lives and monetize it to the utmost if they thought they could get away with it. Hell, Target has figured out a way to analyze shopping patterns and figure out if a female customer is pregnant during her first two trimesters. Target will then send the customer ads that have baby/new parent-centric deals.

well, so long iTV. why get a whole new tv set when you'd have all the potential features in a cheaper media extender/game console/cable box?

I'll likely never buy one (not any time soon, anyway -- kind of drifting out of heavy gaming), but it's nice to see some straight lines returning the product. It's suggestive of home electronics in the 1980s, an era when most of the better brands of gear looked the best that kind of thing has EVER looked.

Lets see:

1. No removable hard drive
2. Useless gimmicks for those that don't have cable, I have an S4 and the air view and all other gimmicks haven't been used once. XBMC, Hulu+, and Netflix have all the programing I need.
3 Can't let your friends borrow your games.
4. Kinect constantly "watching and listening" to you. The sheep don't mind MS doing this in their house but if the government does in public spaces then all hell breaks loose.
5. No backwards compatibility, at least Sony has a plan with Gaikai tech.

Yup, PS4 for me.

Wondering why this is an issue for some. They have already said that the device will have USB3.0 support and support a plethora of external devices including USB3 hard drives and storage.

Gimmicks are features. Features are always gimmicks. What you find useless, another might find a blessing. Just because you have no use for them, doesn't mean they're useless. This is a common and annoying mindset on these forums.

3 Can't let your friends borrow your games.
http://www.insidegamingdaily.com/20...orrowed-games-on-xbox-one-mysterious-on-used/

Untrue as clarified by Microsoft. There is borrowing and taking your disc around. if you put the disc into the drive of the xbox, that console can continue to play that game until it is removed or you start to play the game again on your own account and console at home. No different than current disc based borrowing. Just using an online check now since its possible games are hard drive based.

4. Kinect constantly "watching and listening" to you. The sheep don't mind MS doing this in their house but if the government does in public spaces then all hell breaks loose.
This one is a tough one. On one side, i want to tell you to start wearing a mask and a tinfoil hat whenever or whever you go. it's pure conspiracy thoery and to the sane individuals pure paranoid lunacy. However, I agree the technology is theoretically there. However, it's already there with the current generation and live. It's also there with PShome and any of the systems with a camera. Also your smartphone, that has two cameras, one you usually have pointed at your face. Your computers too, many of them have built in Cameras. Don't forget the millions of cameras you probably pass by everyday while in the public space. At what point is it being paranoid and delusional and what point did t become some sure fact that Microsoft will do it?

5. No backwards compatibility, at least Sony has a plan with Gaikai tech.
As of right now, according to Sony's official release, The PS4 will have absolutely no backwards compatibility with previous console titles. While Gakai is hopeful, the support for a ported version of your old titles maybe extremely limited and is at the mercy of Sony's team to decide which games they port. This will be no different than their current marketplace which does sell PSone and PS2 titles for the different consoles. They are additional fee, and they are only available to limit console range at the discretion of Sony.
Yup, PS4 for me.

my responses to this nonsense in bold.

However, Dont' not buy the PS4 / 360 or whatever.. buy the console you do want the best. Thats why we have choice.

Just don't listen to incorrect rumours and lies to make your decision.

From what i've seen, (anandtech ahs a great technical comparison), The PS4 looks like it will overall have the greater theoretical horsepower under the hood.

what that means for the actual titles we will get, we will have to wait till they're out and tested. I just think that for my use of a console, the One has a broader appeal. Sony's focus on "social" and "sharing" features don't really interest me all that much. Microsoft's overlays' and ability to run Apps, plus broader media content system is more interesting to me.

People get angry at the no-second hand sales restrictions, but you have to understand some things;

Game costs keep climbing up. Since the dawn of 3D gaming it has just gotten more and more expensive to develop games. Higher fidelity requires bigger teams as they need to work on more and more details for longer stretches of times. A big budget game these days is in the hundreds of millions now and lots of games don't recoup their costs. Since games still cost 60 dollars, but has higher costs, it is very bad when fewer people buy the games because they can just sell it after they beat it at gamestop.

When you go to a movie theater or a concert, movies and muscians can recoup some of their working costs because the audience is watching an experience. It's not so for games, and thus they rely 100% on the income of the product.

What if Sony does the same? Are you angry that you can't sell your Steam games? I am not saying it doesn't suck, but look at it from the perspective of a developing trying to make money of a game.

Not 100% sure that number 3 is the same as it is now

Another family member can play the game as long as it's on the same console
You can play it at a friends house IF you sign in using your ID

If you want to use the game on a different console/with a different ID you need to pay again

So I cannot lend a copy of a game to friend with the new system without them paying again for it

1. Who the hell prefers external storage to use up more space and create more clutter other than a fanboy?

2. Waving my hand around probably uses a little less energy than picking up my remote and pressing the input button. A gimmick is not a feature, a gimmick is a solution to a problem that was never there.

3. Your login in ID has to be signed in at your friends house for them to play the game they borrowed, in other words you can't borrow games, unless you pay their fee. This has been addressed by MS directly.

4. Kinect is MANDATORY to play everything even if it doesn't use it, and it doesn't change the fact that morons won't complain about MS watching their living rooms but then complain when the government puts cameras in public spaces.

5. That's why I said at least they(Sony)has a plan, learn to read.

6. You still have to pay for LIVE which gives nothing you can't get for free everywhere else.

There are no rumors anymore, they presented their case and ANY gamer worth that title knows that MS then put out press releases to all the shady stuff after the event. Not to mention, virtually nothing MS showed seemed like something that Sony couldn't imitate through software down the line, this is why most media perception is negative on the X1.

Sony can easily trump this if they play their cards right. All they need is PS+, a proper used games market and a basic free PSN and they will win hands down.

LOL. Who's the fanboy?

I put several points how the XboxOne is bad for the consumer, and like a typical fanboy with no argument you call me one.

Exactly, most of these are HUGE negatives and the positives are gimmicks at best, there's a reason the majority of gaming sites have a negative perception on the XboxOne.

And regarding non-replaceable HDD, it's likely PS4 will follow suit with what they did with PS3, just like MS have followed suit with their propriatory HDD.

Adding an external drive is a solution, but it's an ugly one at best, but it's not all about storage space - Eventually I'd like to replace my console's internal HDD with an SSD to give it a bit of a speed boost. I did this with my PS3 and there was quite a difference. Much less texture-popping and (marginally) shorter load times and content in the XMB also loaded quicker.
