Honestly, I'm not surprised.

Google has been starting to compete with Apple on multiple fronts, from Android to the AdMom acquisition.

Funnily though, this story is the hottest story, gaining the most amount of negatives I've seen in a while.

Just wait until Steve Ballmer appears on stage with Steve Jobs for the ceremonial handshake.

*vomits*

if your worried about privacy / data retention by search engines, try :
startpage.com

( submits searches to other search engines and aggregates the results )

So why would you think MS isn't doing the exact same thing, or worse, with any of your data than Google is?

I think it all comes down to Google's privacy policies and past tactics. But to answer your question directly - I can't be sure... None of us can. I am so concerned about all of us placing all of our info up on the web.

I'm thinking of ditching the entire cloud computing thing in favor of a USB thumbdrive.

I think this is a good move for Apple. Google's popularity and quick success is getting scary.

lol... apple is the worst when it comes to collecting user data... they have so many valuable user data... addresses, phone numbers, creditcard information through iTunes accounts... you must be the most stupid sheep to believe apple will not take advantage of it in the future considering their recent acquisitions...

1138 Negatives ... wow

Actually it makes perfect sense to me. In fact, the childish way that all of you are reacting is part of the reason why Apple needs to do this. Not Bing, mind you. Bing is not good enough. But everyone needs to stop treating Google like they're some unstoppable and irreplaceable force, because that's not even close.

Please explain how stating the truth; i.e., "Google is a better search engine than Bing," is "childish." If you go back to my post I never stated Google wasn't unstoppable. I said it was a better, easier, search engine. If Bing were to exceed Google in search effectiveness that would be great, but right now it doesn't. Fact.

Every company is replacable, and usually is over time (see the original Dow Dozen http://www.davidstuff.com/financial/dow12.htm). But that happens because the company fails to make a product or service people want. That is how business works. Google will be stopped when someone makes a better product or they start charging too much $ for their services.

Why doesn't Apple just create its own search engine? It can't be that hard - Microsoft managed to do it. ;)

I want to decide which search engine I use, not Apple, not Microsoft, not Google.

fanboys stop whining. apple doesn't care about you. most users (normal people, not apple evangelists) won't notice or care anyway.

Isn't Apple looking to get into the online ad market? If so, it goes without saying that they shouldn't have google as the default anything.

Have: iPhone 3G 16GB black | iPod Shuffle 1GB silver | MacBook 2.4 (1st Mac) | iPod Nano 8GB green

If you want to choose, then you have already chosen poorly.

I just threw up a little in my mouth. What an absolute joke this will be if it's true. If you want to fight Google then go with Yahoo or at the very least Ask Jeeves for christ's sake. But Bing of all search engines? Wow, what an absolute terrible mistake that will be.

This is crap. Bing sucks. This can't be true! Don't make a deal with the devil Apple! You'll regret it...

Google is the new Microsoft. Or haven't you heard?

You're probably thinking of another Microsoft, the old company that used to run the world on desktop and mobile operating systems, web technologies, and core OS and web APIs. The Microsoft currently in operation is in a whole different line of work. I think they make video game consoles or something.

would rather the two companies (aapl, goog) not be enemies but friendly rivals with mutual respect. msft, on the other hand, steve ballmer in particular, can fly a kite-
