Bing???:confused::confused::confused:

I would never use Bing.... My Mac's spell check doesn't even know that "Bing" is a word:rolleyes:. On the other hand, Google... Google Google Google....
When I went on vacation last year I had no internet, I had to make a Google list with all the stuff I wanted to Google. Google is awesome:D. I looked at Bing maps, and they suck... It looks like they paid some crappy photographer with a plane to fly around and take pics of the ground. Half the houses are sideways(slanted, as if pic was taken at an angle...)

If Apple switches to Bing??? Well they better have an option to switch back to Google or else:mad:

"- Er... Ballmer? It's Jobs. Er... can we use Bing on the iPhone?
- Bing? What the hell is that?
- Er... you know, it's your search engine. We've got a little problem with Google. Actually, we have a serious problem with Google. But we have this awesome device called the iPhone and...
- Hah, you don't say! Why don't you use your own search engine?
- It's difficult. But don't worry, we don't plan to use Windows on our computers.
- You still have that thing, whatever it's called... Puma, that's it!
- Actually, it's Snow Leopard...
- That's it, Leopard!
- SNOW Leopard, er...
- Whatever, do you want to come over and ask me nicely? Man, you shouldn't have messed with Google. Man, you are doomed!
- Brrr."

rofl :D

God, I don't like Bing, but I love the face I am picturing on a few hardcore fanboys, who take every opportunity to say how MS is dead, how crap it is... And now, Jobs sleeps with the devil.

This news is great for anti-fanboy sentiments. Let's celebrate, my friends! Personally, I haven't used Windows for a while now, but now I am planning to give it another go. But this... Apple using an MS search engine just made my day.

Seriously, I thinking dumping google for bing as the default search engine just to make a few extra bucks is just bad.
Look at google's market share..it's clear that's what people want.

Can someone please tell me this is a joke!, Make it optional if this is true.

It would be optional.

Read the article.

It will just be the 'default' setting. You can always change the default setting.

Or else what? Why is Bing crappy? Have you ever tried it?

What is up with these responses?:rolleyes:

So I just tried Bing to see what all the fuss is about.

Why am I supposed to hate it again? It sucks why?

Seemed to work for me.

It doesn't. It's good.
If I could change my default safari search engine to bing I would. Google gets more hits for things but Bing just gets the relevant ones. To me the image results are way better in bing than in google. The way they are presented is better in bing as well.

Results for "Apple computers"

Bing

oh good god i hope not. nothing against microsoft, i just dont like microsofts engine.... google is legit.

You can change it to your default browser in Safari on your Mac. Simply download Glims, and then you'll have the option.

This whole argument is summarised by the old saying 'keep your friends close but your enemies closer.' Well done Apple!

Why are people so negative on this? Rabid Google fanboyism? Really, Google is a search monopoly right now, it wouldn't hurt to bust it up. Not only that, but what if Bing is better?

Bing predates to 1998 MSN Search. With billions of dollars spent, Microsoft Windows monopoly pushing MSN internet efforts, somehow google came out on top. Must be because Bing is better.

Ok people, it's a rumor. An unlikely rumor with no clear benefit to Apple.

Apple needs to start making some decisions without money as the deciding factor. Steve Jobs would never dream of pulling out of China for ethical reasons or selling the iPhone or iSlate with no carrier attached. He's only interested in blazing trails when there are billions of dollars to be made.

Google is the far superior search engine. So what if they compete with Apple in other areas. They don't compete on search engines or online maps. Perhaps somebody should remind Steve that Microsoft has 90%+ of the OS market and stole Windows from him, I think he may have forgotten who the true enemy is.

Please read the article.

"Being the default search engine on the iPhone carries financial benefits for Google, which collects revenue from ads placed alongside its search results and shares a portion of that with Apple. Most mobile advertising now is viewed on Apple's iPhone and iPod touch, according to mobile advertising company AdMob. To clinch the deal, Microsoft may be willing to share a higher portion of its revenue or pay a larger flat annual fee than Google does. Neither Apple nor Google discloses the financial terms of their search partnership."

I have to say that I don't mind Bing. I find the image search is a little better sometimes than Google's. Google have better maps. In straightforward Web search there is very little between them.

As far as iPhone apps go I find the Bing one a little more user friendly than Google's.

Personally I wouldn't put it past Apple to be working on their own service to rival both of them.

Bing

atleast bing is not as bad as live search...but definitely not upto competition with google

Maybe its just me, but the benefits of chipping away at google's market share seems ridiculously clear to me. You just had a bidding war between apple and google for AdMob. But what better appraisal of the mobile phone market can one possibly get than googles own datawarehousing.

If you consider the majority of iphone users would have gone to maps and pressed the location button. Google now has statistics on the number of iphone users in each country, location etc. If you consider that the majority of iphone users have performed a google search on their phone, google now has information on iphone usage, preferred browser, OS version (and iphone model), and an unimaginable amount of information linking that to demographics, interests, and whatever other metrics they wish to look at. If you consider a good portion of iphone users would have searched a destination/business/etc near them on maps..... the list continues...

Why would you want your main competitor to know any of this? I have no doubt apple will come out with their own search engine, map site, cloud applications, etc to compete. It'd be suicide if they didnt. But in the meantime, making bing the default search will hopefully prevent a significant portion of iphone users from providing google with more information. Information is power.

Internet search engines are pretty much just a commodity service now. I can't figure out why I should care one way or another which one they set as default. But playing Google & Microsoft against each other in any fashion does seem like a smart move for Apple right now.

This is true to a certain degree. People just fall in love with some search engines. Google has one specific killer app: the maps with street view. Other than that, it isn't going to be anything awful to skip to another search.

Not sure if this "playing against each other" is a bad thing, because if the Apple tablet is indeed going to redefine a market and expand computing possibilities, if it is going to be a huge hit, it can reshape the market. If all iPT, iPhones, iSlates, and Safaris, change from Google to Bing, Google can take a huge hit, especially if Bing steps up to the plate and has a greater service with time.

Well this is certainly out of the blue and a shock if its true but there have been reports of Apple and Google getting on less and less these past few months
