Talking up Cortana from Windows Phone is like having a 1993 Ford Escort with an oversized porsche spoiler on the back.

Sure that spoiler is great, on a porsche but it's just a waste of time on a 1993 Ford Escort.

Windows OS on mobile is actually brilliant, maybe better then iOS

But when you have no app support it doesn't matter if you have the greatest OS of all time
Except Windows Mobile is hardly the greatest OS of all time. Far from it actually.

Post-PC does not exist. It's just new types of PCs. iPhones are iPads are PCs.

But that's what Post-PC *is* :). Funny how people argue about it from both sides and are both basically agreeing on the same thing. Post-PC and "PC Plus" are the same thing, they're just arguing over the definition of Personal Computer. Both sides agree the newer, smaller, lower maintenance computers are gaining focus over the older, complex, more powerful computers. Neither side says older style computers are no longer useful.

It's crazy to me that Cortana isn't built into Xbox. That just seems like a no-brainer. There's no Xbox / Windows Phone integration at all actually.

While everyone is focusing on ecosystems, well...Msft....

I like these ads. They certainly get Apple's attention. Nothing like pointing out real deficiencies like no multi-tasking on the iPad,more intelligent assistants, etc. This can only lead to a better iOS. I have no desire for anything Microsoft but I, for one, am happy they're hitting Apple as hard as they can.

When 75% of iPhone Siri users ask "Where is the nearest Starbucks," you really think they give a s*** about Multitasking? We might, however we are the minority.

The iPad is a completely different situation, IMO. It would be a much better platform to point out this issue. :apple:

Kinda funny

Ending was actually relatively funny. Although from a marketing perspective, Samsung is better at Apple bashing.

Speaking of which, I hated Samsungs ads to begin with, because they legitimately made Samsung devices seem better even on aspects they weren't and it felt like they were attacking us, but now that HTC/MS has joined the game, it's great! Other people's adverts include Apple products. Free extra marketing! People have got to be able to see that going at us this hard is just a way to make themselves feel better about not being better.

I own a Windows Phone device with Cortana, and this commercial is flat out deceiving. Cortana's voice is very robotic sounding irl, but in this commercial she is conversating smooth and fluid like a normal person, this is simply more of Microsoft's lies.
I would call BS on you owning a current model with current updates. I have a 5s that I'm typing this on and a Lumia Icon. In functionality and sound Cortana wins hands down. One simple example. "Find Starbucks close to me" both work ok. Cortana more info like map and numbers similar to google. The next step though sets Cortana apart, the ability to talk in conversational tone. You can say "call Starbucks" and it will call the closest one. Try that with Siri.

You are right Apple nailed Siri on its game platform... Oh wait

Well... it's much more tolerable than those obnoxious Samsung ads. I like it.
The last line was great and it's true, though it's not like you usually rest the iPhone vertically because it won't stand.

Speaker thing is true. I definitely would love the iPhone to have stereo front facing speakers...

Won't this be slightly awkward in a week when the new iPhone comes out with supposed "better Siri"?

ummm.... No. "better siri" would have been announced at WWDC. The only possible iPhone 6 only siri enhancements would be hardware specific. i.e. "Siri, pay with my master card" but even doing something like that would be unprecedented to this point. Siri works identically on 4s, 5, and 5s.

One has to wonder....

Someone should do a side x side -

If you listen closely, the commands the "human" gives to Cortana and the responses Cortana gives back aren't quite the same -
For example: the flower shop - Human says "any flower shop" and Cortana responds with "The Flower Shop" - or the "remind" to his wife, and Cortana responds with her name.....so one has to wonder if there are a lot more steps to that whole process than what's being shown in the ad, whereas Cortana isn't as intelligent as they suggest?

Yes, Siri is limited, sometimes frustratingly so. But just look at that picture. Which one do you want to HOLD in ONE HAND. It's maddening that Apple is letting Samsung control the debate and engaging in specmanship.

And stereo speakers on a handset. Really? We're pushing that now, are we? I guess since a boom box has a handle... never mind.

The Siri voice sounds cut and pasted from old recordings. Almost like MS couldn't find the old voice to make Siri look worse so they had to piece together voice clips from various sources. And the Cortana voice sounded like a voiceover actor, almost too good. It didn't sound like the Cortana from their other commercials. These things normally wouldn't bother me much except that this commercial was specifically highlighting the sound quality of both products so it rings totally false as in false advertising.

Lara Croft would be good :D oh the mammaries I mean memories :D
Nice idea...but for me...the original E.V.A. from C&C would win No. 1 hands down...

P.S. To all those hate filled zealots promoting one or the other OS....maybe, just maybe you guys would live happier lifes if you could just chill and be happy taht there is an enourmous amount of tech to choose from...
P.P.S. I am pretty sure that it does not ruin anyones user experience if someone else uses a different product...juat a thought....just a thought (now back to suck on my lollipop)

Nice ad, but isn't it a little unwise to release an advert featuring the iPhone 5S this close to Apple unveiling the new phone?

Man, If Apple could get on the game with Siri and get her speaking as fluid as Google Maps lady, I think I would use Siri more.

Even with the enhanced voice, Siri is still too robotic and fairly useless to me unless for simple tasks that are usually easier for me to type.
How many years now later and Siri should not be as Beta as it still is.

Cortana sounds very natural, like Johansson in "Her"... even the android voice assistant (S Voice), sounds better than Siri

i stand by what i said. :)

You can stand by what you like. That’s your prerogative.
I say again, and you can blindly and fanboyishly disagree if you like.

All in, when you account for all of the factors that make up a purchase; cost, availablity, accessibility, design and so on. More people choose the other.

Cheap looking is a subjective measure, I’d say that the protruding camera ring is up there at the top of the list for cheap looks.
The next half of your post makes less than zero sense.
As for making money and getting rich, you’ve seen the mark up Apple puts on things like RAM right?

I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but the aesthetics of the HTC One IMO is much nicer and a better layout for speakers than the leaked IPhone 6 design.

I have never owned an iphone or ipod. but I do have a mbp and I love it. I use android phones. I am really considering a blackberry for personal use tho. I had a z10 briefly at work(changed jobs and gave it up) I loved it, now that they have the amazon app store I could get the android apps I wanted.

kind of off topic I was helping someone out with their iphone 4, it said it was out of space , so I checked the usage and facebook was taking up 4.5 gig, I deleted it , rebooted and reinstalled it and everything was fine, any idea on what caused the issue, trying update fb? or does fb save stuff to the iphone?

I love Apple operating systems. I have to admit though, there are more PCs running Windows out there than there are machines running OSX, and you think Microsoft don’t get it?

I’m not sure I believe the ads that have come out for this kind of thing though. I’d love to actually be able to get two phones side by side and see what really happens for myself.

You are the ONLY person here trying to make this a discussion about Windows desktop OS vs OSX... lol, neither Cortana nor Siri are currently available on a desktop operating system so what are you even on about??

they did a good job of making the gorgeous iPhone look pretty bland and boring next to theirs. but that's about it. and it isn't too difficult if you're good at making commercials.
