Man, Creativity has gone completely out the window. Can anyone make a commercial without an Apple device in it anymore?

Not a bad commercial though... At least its not belittling the Apple users.

I have to say that was pretty funny!

I do miss some of the info that android can give you, and now windows apparently. Loved when I had a calendar appointment it would tell me a time I should leave because of traffic. NC is a bit plain on iOS.

I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but the aesthetics of the HTC One IMO is much nicer and a better layout for speakers than the leaked IPhone 6 design.

Yeah.... then you turn it on its side to play a game or watch a video and your hand covers the speakers... I think you'll find that Apple thinks a lot more about design for useably than most of the other manufacturers. Same thing as that Sony one with only one bezel at the bottom - not much good when you have it in your hand in landscape... :D

You can stand by what you like. That’s your prerogative.
I say again, and you can blindly and fanboyishly disagree if you like.

All in, when you account for all of the factors that make up a purchase; cost, availablity, accessibility, design and so on. More people choose the other.

Cheap looking is a subjective measure, I’d say that the protruding camera ring is up there at the top of the list for cheap looks.
The next half of your post makes less than zero sense.
As for making money and getting rich, you’ve seen the mark up Apple puts on things like RAM right?

Lol, more people use Windows phone than iPhone????
Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! Omg, you're killing me!

This is great for Windows, everybody should be cheering Microsoft on to bring balance to the market

That is laughable but it is in Apple's best interest if Microsoft does well in this area

Windows OS on mobile is actually brilliant, maybe better then iOS

But when you have no app support it doesn't matter if you have the greatest OS of all time
What amazing "apps" does one really need on a tiny phone? Yeah, there's a few basic ones but I'd just as soon have better app support for my tablet. A tablet that runs a full OS instead of something that grew from a cell phone. This is where MS got it right I think.

yeh, I guess that's true.

I like these ads. They certainly get Apple's attention. Nothing like pointing out real deficiencies like no multi-tasking on the iPad,more intelligent assistants, etc. This can only lead to a better iOS. I have no desire for anything Microsoft but I, for one, am happy they're hitting Apple as hard as they can.

Multi-tasking is stupid.
There I said it.

Just do one thing and then do the other duh.

As much as I have lingering resentment at Microsoft for being such a bully over the years, I begrudgingly tip my hat to Cortana. While I think this commercial is ham fisted & tacky; the tech demos I've seen with Joe Belfiore were VERY impressive!
I absolutely looooove the "notepad" approach of choosing what info about yourself you'd like to share with your assistant.
I don't think Now by Google was the competition Apple needed to really push the boundaries of Siri... I think this is.
I still hope beyond hope that part of the IBM deal will include Siri being usurped by Watson!!! :)

Someone should do a side x side -

If you listen closely, the commands the "human" gives to Cortana and the responses Cortana gives back aren't quite the same -
For example: the flower shop - Human says "any flower shop" and Cortana responds with "The Flower Shop" - or the "remind" to his wife, and Cortana responds with her name.....so one has to wonder if there are a lot more steps to that whole process than what's being shown in the ad, whereas Cortana isn't as intelligent as they suggest?

I have done side by side... the commercial (older one you are referencing) is spot on.

When I say my wife, Cortana knows who I am talking about because the first time I used the term "my wife" it asked me who that was.

Let's see, they use a fake Siri voice (probably a fake Cortana voice too) and in their Surface ads all screen images are simulated. I don't believe anything Microsoft says in their ads.

If Lync is anything to go by.... this will be awful. Nearly 95% of my voicemails have flubbed voice to text errors, most embarrassingly bad. We treat the voicemail texts like some sort of form of laughter around the office.

If Cortana is better than SIRI in that regards; please, Microsoft... look at moving the technology to Lync.

But that's what Post-PC *is* :). Funny how people argue about it from both sides and are both basically agreeing on the same thing. Post-PC and "PC Plus" are the same thing, they're just arguing over the definition of Personal Computer. Both sides agree the newer, smaller, lower maintenance computers are gaining focus over the older, complex, more powerful computers. Neither side says older style computers are no longer useful.

It's not PC plus. It's just PC. Desktops were the most popular PC of the 1990's. Notebooks, tablets and iPhones are the most popular PCs of the 2010's. It's not about that is more or less useful. It's about there are new types of PC's being invented that are now more popular than the traditional desktop PC of the past.

Except when I want to use a tablet I have to deal with an OS that's half optimized for keyboard and mouse, and when I want to use a keyboard and mouse I have to deal with an OS that's half optimized for touch.

I still think my biggest problem with the Surface is that kickstand. Can't replace my laptop if I can't use it on my lap, Microsoft.

Of course, this entire thing comes down to whichever ecosystem is willing to give me full OS control, Star Trek style, via their various digital assistants. Whoever can make me feel like I'm talking to Jarvis as far as the responses and functionality are concerned will get my money.

Siri does the exact same thing...

If you read the quote I was referencing, the poster was wondering if a step was skipped in the commercial. Assuming you have already taught the phone your wife's name, it wasn't skipping a step. Yes, you can "teach" Siri who your "wife" is....I didn't say you couldn't.

Siri cannot do what any of the Microsoft commercials are showing...yet...that is why they are relevant.

Yet I use it that way every day in a variety of positions (chair, chair with legs up, in bed, etc.)...and I'm not 7 feet tall...

It DOES work in your lap. Doesn't rock...has never fallen over or off...

Does it work AS WELL as a laptop? No.....but it works.

Useless market share angle again. tell me.. with all these "most businesses and individuals" choosing Microsoft, Who's a bigger company now? Are they even bigger than Google?
Get stuck in 2007 perhaps?

What makes a bigger company?
What I’m saying is most people that I know, and that you know also I’ll wager, (that’s before even thinking about the word ‘worldwide’), do not buy Apple products. This cannot mean that the competition have tanked, are you people blind?
Why is it that Apple fans cannot even see what their famous Jobs deity said. For Apple to win Microsoft DON’T HAVE TO LOSE.

Lol, more people use Windows phone than iPhone????

I replied initially in response to, ‘Microsoft don’t get it’. They do more than just phones. I’m also pretty sure the quote was actually one from SJ aimed at IBM anyway;
Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It's not about money. It's about the people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it.
I never said more people use Windows phone than iOS, you did.
if you want to discount them, fine. If you want to say some thing is quality because it looks nice great, knock yourself out.
I friends that prefer Windows phone and Windows to both the Mac and/or iOS and guess what, I don’t think any less of them for it. I might not understand it or want to do what they have done but I do understand that they might have different preferences unlike a lot of posters on this board.
Yes I know it’s an Apple centric site, that's why I’m here, that’s my preference but dang there are some strange ones about.

I feel like you're willfully misinterpreting everything you & others say... Nobody can be THAT clueless about what everybody is talking about, lol.

I went into a Microsoft store and put a Surface on my lap. I'm one of those who likes his arms extended when he types, and I type a lot, which means I like putting the keyboard on my knees. The kickstand doesn't work for me at all. I realize this is a personal use case, but based on tagline alone, Microsoft will never sell me on the Surface till they get rid of that kickstand.

That being said, that's only a reason to not get the Surface. The reason I haven't gotten one of those other convertibles from HP or Lenovo is because I feel like Windows 8 only half works all of the time. I haven't found a task that it feels like it was optimized for. Does it do lots of things normal laptops/tablets haven't traditionally done? Sure. But I don't feel like it does them well, and at this point would rather use two separate devices.

But like I said, whoever beats the competition to giving me the voice control from the Enterprise will get my money.
