and, yes, i am buying a vista pc this weekend because these commercials have made me realize that it is actually a fresh product, and people have been saying it is crap without ever having used it.

I used and it is not all that and it has a lot of problems... Also it trying to be a wannabe Tiger OS with a window look.. It is not all it is cracked up to be.. I would stay with XP when it comes to using Windows..

Just watched the ad on the Microsoft site and ... I have to say I liked it. I can even what they are trying to convey. The whole connecting people. Aiming back at the home market that Apple is starting to dominate.

It is great to see Bill Gates larking around. Here in the UK Seinfield is not as famous as in the US.

Finally the video was played via Flash - on the MS website!!! Whatever happened to Silverlight?

I didn't really care for the first one, but this one...

It was really funny. I liked it. I laughed out loud a couple times.

i don't really mind how it looks. I saw someone use it and they had it on "Classic mode" where it looks like the old windows user interface... that is what i would do..

but HOW bad can vista be? when i went to best buy, it was on every single machine they were selling... i mean, to be able to sell these, it must be at least OK, shouldn't it?

if you are a business anywhere in the world, aren't your only options windows or linux? and in japan, i would guess that windows is being used more, because of the software that has been built on it.

and in germany almost everyone i knew had a windows pc.

Only reason Window PC are high because they are CHEAP... Any business can use Mac and sill do the same things that Window can do.. It only software and that software can be made for Mac.. Hell Music and Movie Studios use Macs..

Guys I don't know about you but now that I've seen this I'm switching to PC.
It was great being with you!
Love.
Bas.

same here, i'm getting a vista PC this weekend for a test drive sort of thing. But i'm still going to put leopard on it.

Not really.. Because all your devices that work great with XP will not work as good on the Vista.. Even with new drivers does not mean it will work as great.. It like Win98 to XP.. Most devices need to be upgrade to new models that where made to work with XP and 98... Older devices will give you problems and old programs that are no long being updated..

P.S. Why not run bootcamp if you want Vista that bad.. I see no point in having Leopard on a Window base computer.. It is a lot of work to get it to work and with bootcamp Apple knows how to make Window run better then some hacker that made Leopard work on a PC...

I couldn't even watch it all

I'm sorry to say it (after all the effort I'm sure went into making those ads), but they are boring and only amusing enough to produce a slight smile (watching the grandma, for instance).

There is NO way I can see this kind of modern fake-camera-shakey childish humour "rich and famous guys are just normal" kind of drivel ever making me want to buy a Windows OS or even informing me as to any supposed merits of said OS.

Finally, in case anyone didn't get my drift: this new ad campaign "sucks" so far. So let's see some more!

Well Japan hates Microsoft.. I bet other businesses in other Asian countries feels the same way.. Microsoft has screwed them to much to a point they do not like MS...

More the fact that these companies setup shop in their countries and make no effort to employing the host countries citizens to work on products; all the office basically is, is a big outlet to sell their crap. I'm sorry, but if Microsoft wish for people to have some sort of affinity with the company - how about creating some *REAL* jobs in the countries they do business in. You know, programming jobs and so forth. Maybe if people 'felt' like their country contributed to the making of the product - they might actually feel more inclined to buying a product by Microsoft.

This is actually a clever ad.

And I really enjoyed it. Very funny. Leather stuffed giraffe :)

I think this ad series is much better than the snarky Mac/PC adverts which I find irritating and pompous.

I use Windows at home and work, I use Macs at home and only the other day a customer was surprised to be speaking to someone who knew a Mac inside out when I fixed the problem she was having so I'm a friendly Mac person sometimes when I'm not using Windows or OpenSUSE 11 (which is excellent on my ThinkPad.)

I can see where this is going. The girls s******ing and plotting and setting up Seinfeld and Gates is Apple in this ad.

Maybe I'm rare but whilst I see Microsoft did many things that were not right in the past, I wonder where this world would have been without them today.

Anyway very enjoyable and I'll now go to work chuckling about this and probably scaring peeps at the bus stop as I chuckle thinking about condiments with booze in them hehe :D

What the hell?!

I've never liked ether Gates or Seinfeld, but even putting that aside it says nothing to me, has no charm and serves no sane purpose.

In fact, all these ads seem to rely on merely the fame of these two individuals. Take that away, and there's nothing special about it. But even this cannot make this rather mediocre ad campaign anything more than what it is.

A large part of this is the fact that you have Gates and Seinfeld though, putting that aside largely misses the point.

I think they're being really quite bold and creative honestly. Clearly not everyone will get it or appreciate it, but they're really quite clever and subtle. I'm eager to see the next, and the next...

I much prefer this kind of stuff to Apple's Macs rules, PC's suck, Mac vs PC school playground nonsense

I actually quite like these ads, they're pleasant to watch, instead of aiming criticism directly at it's competitors (like the get a mac ads) it's done subtly and indirectly, and it's nice to see Bill Gates as this kind of fun person rather than this multi billion or whatever dollar money grabbing guy.

Still won't make me switch back to Windows though, but they're doing some good brand recognition.

This is actually a clever ad.

I couldn't disagree more.

I found the humor to be very outdated and predictable.

I'm curious about the :30 spot though, and what kind of feeling you would take away from it. This went on way too long, and again didn't convey any real sort of product awareness.

Although I will say the robot was better than a computer made out of cake. Heh.

I don't know if they'll get better, but I sure hope so.

absolutely. this commercial doesn't think its consumers are too stupid to know anything.

anybody watching this knows who bill gates is, knows who seinfeld is, and knows what microsoft and windows are. they know what this commercial is marketing, no need to mention it at all. genius.

there is no need to tell people who buy computers that one OS is better than another in a stupidly retarded way a la "mac guy" vs. "pc guy"

who would you hire at your company--the mac guy who can do cool video editing? or the fat PC nerd, who will code in assembly language for you. there's a reason he is fat--he's always in the office so he has no time to exercise.

Remember these are advertisements, not comedy skits. The money that was spent on these ads needs to have a return in product awareness and interest.

As an advertisement I feel these are failing miserably.

I thought the first one was funny, but this one felt completely dry and overdone.

Hodgman is hilarious, so I find the Get A Mac ads to be very funny. But more importantly they've quite effective advertisements as well.

To be fair, the two campaigns are completely different so it's really impossible to compare the two.
