Wrong. Fortnite brought in $2.4 billion in 2018 alone, most of that from the mobile space. Sony and Microsoft at the very least are competing against iOS to get a piece of that success.

ok dude, sorry. Apple is the leader in gaming then....whatever. Even that subpar freemium game for casuals has much higher quality versions in other platforms.

You are right. I am a gamer and have been looking forward to this feature. But I am a small minority. I can't believe I'm going to be looking into what android tablet to buy. I've been an Apple fanboy for a decade, so I don't even have any idea where to start. o_O I would have rather bought the next iPad instead. Gaming is a big hobby for me, but not for most people, so I understand everyone's 'too bad, go with android then' attitude towards me.

As for the mobile experience you raised - There is surprisingly low latency for the streaming services with a good download and upload connection. I don't plan on playing a full game on mobile, but some games (like Destiny 2) have some grinding or casual things to do that can be done here and there when I have some free time, and a phone would be perfectly fine, especially when precision isn't the most important thing. A PS4 or xbox controller with a phone grip works great this way, I wouldn't use the touch screen myself.

If there are enough customers like yourself, maybe the loss in revenue will spur Apple to reverse their policy. I just don’t see it happening, unfortunately.

And good luck with the Android tablet search...you’re going to need it because it’s a pretty barren wasteland. Best bet is a Samsung Tab but for the money you’d spend, I’d consider just getting a previous gen Surface Pro or even a Surface Go.

Wow, I am surprise by how much reaction it creates. No company likes competition, that's normal. Apple is no different. I hope congress brakes the monopoly of the App store but I can't blame Apple for
Android has 80% marketshare. But you do you.
So we will not use Monopoly, just anti-competitive, that's a dirty word to.

or the porn we can watch on a different browser
You can stream games in any browser on iOS too. Just do that and be happy. Why should Apple open their door to a competitor that is basically trying to undermine their platform from the inside. I wonder if Microsoft is willing to allow Apple Arcade or other Apple Games to be sold and promoted on XBox? Not likely.

Can someone help me understand this better? I’m genuinely asking. I don’t really understand how the anti-trust hearings pertained to Apple. Are they not allowed to choose what apps can/can’t be on their platform?

Are they legally obligated to approve apps that pass a certain criteria? They shouldn’t be required to support competition on their own platform, right? I just don’t get it. Somebody help me out.

Let's put it this way. Comcast goes out and starts their own sports channel. And then tells ESPN to get lost, we arent going to play your channel anymore; even though lets say the content doesnt even overlap (they show different games ESPN doesnt carr). That is anti-competitive because Comcast wants to be the only one making the money off their channel. If they allow ESPN the customer has a 50/50chance of watching theirs vs 100%

Apple wants to make the only money off of their streaming arcade service. They dont want competitors in the store where people could subscribe to them and not Apple.

Imagine if you owned a PC and could only install Office 365 subscribing to Microsoft but no other word processor/spreadsheet apps; another example.

It's anti-competitive behavior. It also stifles innovation when you dont have competition to push your service toward something better.

That doent work because Apple has no desire to. Look at PC you cant even install Safari anymore. Apple cares about your privacy only when you are paying them money; dont believe the philosophical hype they put off. If they really cared about protecting all user privacy they wouldnt have canned Safari for PC (as the main reason to use Safari on PC is if you own an Apple device already anyway really)

Apple is interested in certain services on certain platforms where the all mighty dollar is right. Im sure that is how Apple TV+ got on certain new TV OSes; the money deal was right as manufacturers aren't baking Apple Tv+ in for free.

In theory they could do iMessage on Android and probably charge for it and make a killing doing it too. But Apple is Apple whatever their reasons are; they only want some of their stuff on some platforms.

So make an SDK and package each game as its own app even though they would share 99% or more of the same code. Anything against that?

Google offers a similar streaming gaming service called Google Stadia, which Apple has not allowed on the App Store. Stadia can be accessed on Android devices, but not on iPhones and iPads. The same goes for Nvidia's streaming gaming service, GeForce Now.
I’m confused... Stadia is on the App Store...

Sometimes I really like Apple and applaud them. And then sometimes I hate their guts. This makes me hate their guts. There's no logic behind blocking this from the App Store. It's undeniably anti-competitive. Period.

Microsoft not allowing Sony to serve Playstation Now's subscription service on Xbox is also anti-competitive
Didn't Sony switch to use Azure for it? Or is that their next-gen streaming service? Regardless, it's hard to argue a company is being anti-competitive when they're literally helping those same competitors with the underlying technology for their competing product.

Having said that, I remember Microsoft already announced something about how they're going to allow 3rd-party stores on their HoloLens (or Mixed Reality) platform; so if that holds up who knows what to expect from Satya's Microsoft in the future. And now that Google's jumping into the gaming pool and Apple's been soaking their feet, maybe we could even see Sony & Microsoft partnering on some projects.

Monopoly over iOS. But you already knew @SoN1NjA was referencing Apple's control of iOS and not the overall smartphone market. But we can pretend like you didn't. ;)

Now you're just throwing stuff against the wall. Allowing has nothing to do with it. Outside of exclusives, they both play the same games, and Sony ain't letting their exclusive IP play on XBoxes. PSNow without the exclusives would just be a redundancy. MS allows Playstation Now subscription service to run on the much, much larger Windows platform. So there's no anti-competitiveness involved. But again, you already knew that.

How is Microsoft trying to undermine Apple’s platform? Is Netflix undermining Apple’s platform because some iOS users choose to pay for it instead of Apple TV+ or buying content from iTunes?

Wow! You’re just infallible! Cool!
I'm not as infallible as you and your comments (which looking back, you've edited twice) are seemingly hostile. I am less trusting of the situation than you are, and I am open to be proven wrong, but nothing you have said has done so.

Do people actually want to play a video game on a 6 inch screen? I personally can't stand small screens. The bigger the better. Especially on games like GOW. How would you even see the enemies.

We get it, you hate mobile games. The fact that you hate mobile games is irrelevant to this conversation.

Fortnite is not a mobile game dude....just a bad freemium one (available in pc, consoles, phones, etc).
It is relevant as Apple has nothing to compete with console kind of games, but blocks anyway as it may take away for their offerings which are not even close to being on the same level.

Meh, I'm not too concerned either way.

Apple has repeatedly shown that they'll reneg on ideals if it ends up adversely affecting their bottom line.

If this ends up a big deal and lots of people jump ship, then they'll see it in their sales figures and add the support in down the line.

If it doesn't have any impact, then nothing will happen and arguably not enough people cared to make it a factor in their device buying decision.
