You are sure about that? There is no way it can prompt the user for input, ask for the credit card details, and purchase an item?

I know not xCloud but others could do this. A "game" can be created to ask for user input and ask for the credit card.
Xcloud is a service for 15$ a month you get access to all the games available within its catalog. Beyond the monthly subscription there is nothing else to buy.

Not exactly. Will the game allow user input? What it to prevent me from releasing some other type of service, then a month later release a "streamable" game that asks for your credit card details? Sure you will ignore it, but my grandma? She will type it in no problem!
This made up scenario has no relevancy. It only serves as a red herring.

It is not just audio and video that is being transmitted here. You are also sending data back. Naming your character, controller inputs and more.
Nick's right. It's just like Netflix, or HBO, or Amazon Prime Video. Interactive content. Like XCloud, those streaming services are also sending data back. They send back your user inputs for search, play, pause, ff, rw, etc. On XCloud, you input A, B, or C and it cause the game to do X, Y, or Z. On Netflix it's the exact same circumstance. Your input causes the movie to do something (pause, ff, rw)

But I thought you guys wanted an equal playing field? Unless you want to give Microsoft special treatment.

If this is allowed, I can create a similar "service" and create a "game" that asks for credit card details to purchase content and create my own App Store.

This is coming from an ex-gamer, i dont play any games at all but i have consoles but cant find the time at home to play.

Been using iPhones since 2010 and wasnt looking to switch to Android. If xCloud doesn't come to iOS, it would make me tempted to pickup a backup Android or maybe Tablet.

Apple should re-consider, it'll be more straws like this that'll eventually break the camels back.

Why is it not relevant? I can create a similar service right? Unless you want to give Microsoft special treatment.

They absolutely do not send your play/pause ff, rw or other details. I know this is a fact because I can start streaming, have a buffer, disconnect my entire internet, and pause my video. Its pausing the buffer.

Nope not at all. Movies/TV is sending audio and video data. Not code, not requesting user input. If the game requires you to type, what is to prevent me from creating a similar xCloud app and 4 months later release one that asks for your credit card details?

Fair point. This gives me pause to think about this some more. Thanks for your reply.

I’m an Apple fan through and through and like the tight knit nature of the App Store but this is getting silly.

They decline Microsoft because they can’t approve every game.... but approve Steam?

To me it sounds like the thing they don’t like is Game Pass which effectively creates another game/app store alternative to the Apple store and Apple Arcade.

But after the Hey app can’t Microsoft just offer a free trial in-app?

Given they allow other subscription models like Netflix, YouTube & Spotify, who they compete with (Apple TV+ & Apple Music) I don’t see why they can’t approve this.

These are the times Apple needs to work with companies to find solutions. When consumers demand it. Sounds like the gamers want it. That means Apple should adjust for the consumer demand. Not saying it needs to be free for Microsoft, but they need to find a solution.

This would definitely kill Apple Arcade, and gives no way for Apple to monetize it (without implementing a subscription option through the app). $15 for this is a great deal, and it also comes with Xbox Live Gold. Regardless, its very disappointing news

How so? If Apple was serious enough with Apple Arcade, they could buy game studios or offer deals. I don't think Apple Arcade was ever meant to bring the Halo or Gears of War games.

It is completely different. A Remote Desktop app doesn't let you connect to hundreds of systems. It allows you to connect to your system or family/friends/colleague.

Actually you can connected to tens of thousands of systems if a client is installed.

Do you even know what XCloud is? The game is being virtualized on Microsoft's server. You aren't connecting to "hundreds of systems". Haha.

My point is that the minute you install Remote Desktop, you are not offered hundreds of systems to connect to. xCloud you get a library of 100 games.

Did you miss the entire purpose of my post? Connecting to hundreds of systems was in reference to Remote Desktop NOT xCloud.

How can you people say this kind of stuff that they just don't want the competition. They allow Netflix which competes with Apple TV+. They allow Spotify which competes with Apple Music. They allow Dropbox which competes with iCloud Storage. They allow Microsoft Office which competes with Numbers, Pages and more.
Ok dude. Think about your question. I’m sure you can answer it yourself. I’m sure if they had their way they would ban those services too, but that would create much worse bad will from their customers. Oh and numbers and pages are far from competing with office, just as Apple TV+ with Netflix.

You are connecting to ONE system....

What is so hard to grasp about this?

You are not seeing my point here.

Remote Desktop: 1 minute after install you have 0 "things" to access. You have to add your computers.
xCloud: 1 minute after install you have hundreds of games to access.

I agree, I dont think it competes with console/pc games at all, but people would leave for something like xcloud if that were an option. They really need to step up Apple Arcade, right now the whole thing feels like an afterthought.

So this is just a tin-foil hat comment then? There is plenty of evidence that they allow competition. So you have actual proof Apple is preventing xCloud from competition when there is evidence that they allow competition? They legally have to otherwise they will get hit with severe anti-competitive behavior.

Well you answer your own question. So far they can legally get away with preventing xcloud, hell would break lose if they banned Netflix and the others you mentioned. Hope this changes soon

Hope what changes soon?

Do you have actual proof that they are not allowing xCloud because it competes with Apple Arcade? Or is this just an assumption?
