Mid-Atlantic data outage - Post here if you have no data

i wonder what the sales people are telling people at the apple/att stores when people want to test out the iphone. "oh, don't worry, service goes out sometimes due to updates in the infrastructure that no one will tell you about . . . " not gonna be a good day for iphone sales on the east coast!!
 
visual voicemail down too or is it just me? argh so my friends called me today and they just told me it rang a few times and hit voicemail but voicemail wasn't set up yet.

So basically, I don't know what calls I missed today.
 
Just got my iPhone last night; I'm in eastern PA. I just ran a 3G data test, and I was pleasantly surprised:

EDIT: By the way, it came with 2.0.1, but I upgraded to 2.0.2 last night.
 
Tiny little Monticello, IL also affected

It's not just the big cities that are affected. Our town of 4000 people was also affected by the Edge outage. I spent much of my early morning before breakfast backing up and restoring my iPhone thinking that might help, but to no avail.

I wonder if the number of iPhones sold in the US was so astronomical that the network just cannot handle this much traffic? If Apple was smart, they'd have a clause in their contract with AT&T releasing them of exclusivity if AT&T's network cannot handle the number of users.

D8mn my speed test sucks right now...getting 134 kbs on 3G using the correct testing site or using the one that is inaccurate but what everyone uses (testmyiphone.com) I am getting 0.3 MBps
And my db range has dropped to a paltry -105

Heh i'm in Harrisburg. I was on the way to school and I was wondering why I wasn't getting any data. I was about to ask when I went I went by the ATT store, but the data was restored by then. Anyway, this explains it. I really hope this doesn't happen again

better than my 0.05 Mbps over 3G with 5 bars right now...

this is getting old.
 
AT&T sucks

i'm so tired of the slow speed of at&ts 3G.. I might get that android phone from sprint when it comes out.
 
Data was back for me in Alexandria and southern maryland at 6pm. Not sure if it was back earlier or not, but it wasn't back (yet) at around noon.

It actually seems BETTER than before it went down. I have had faster and more responsive edge than ever, and 3g was not doing it's usually spinning wheel of no loading crap that it's been doing ever since 2.0.2. I guess people being off the towers was helpful to my phone. Either that or something that AT&T did fixed something. It was nice to actually use the phone with the same smile on my face that I had the first couple weeks I had it (when it worked!). I sort of have a new love for it now that it's behaving again (and since categories came out!!!). We'll see how long it lasts.
 
my EDGE service has significantly improved since the data came back. i am now getting around 150 kbps at my house which is better than the usual 25 kbps. my train commute was also improved. my fingers are crossed.
 
service still mixed

Just outside D.C., with 4 3G bars, still very poor data service. Speed tests indicating 25 Kbps.

I wonder if I can just tether the iPhone to my old 14.4 or 36.6 dialup modem. It would prob. be faster.
 
Piscataway NJ, very little to no 3g or edge data services. I had service earlier in the evening at middletown. Seems to me to be more then just a routing problem.

They don't know any better. All those phones are typically on wi-fi and the customer typically isn't smart enough to look for it.
 
I haven't had 3G all day in Easton, PA... Now tonight when I switch to 3G it just flat out says "No Service"!! I never had that issue because I always have 3G service... Getting very annoying! :mad:
 
as far south as FL, it seems...

I'm in Pensacola, FL and experienced this issue. I was connected to 3g, but could not go anywhere. I thought it was just because I happened to jailbreak it during that time :cool: All is back to normal today, except at 5pm central, my phone would not place a call, despite strong service. IDK
 
I'm in Philly and data access is very intermittent. I do get data but it's very slow and there does seem to be some timeout issues. Is anyone else in the area getting consistent high speed service? Thanks.
 
I'm in Newark, DE and the service today seems pretty normal. I am getting about 4-500 kbps. A few weeks ago, for 2 days in a row after a similar outage I did manage 1.2 Mbps, but in general I average around 0.5 Mps on 3g.

I'm in the NYC area and still having issues... no data for most of yesterday, and no data again on my commute into the city today. Right now I'm in my office in midtown manhattan and it's very very very very slow. :mad:
 
seems like EDGE service has improved in NJ between South Amboy and Newark. South of South Amboy is not so good, and Jersey City is still a dead zone.
 
For me EDGE and 3G both kicked back on yesterday afternoon and worked all day. Today again 3G doesn't work... calling the CSR and currently they're saying they have a open ticket (problem) pending since 7/16/08 :eek: in the CT area. This is f*ing crazy, yesterday they said no problem, today there is a problem WTF. Every CSR has a different story.
 
3G crappy service again in Albany NY

Once again, the 3G is there but cant load Appstore, no internet and when it comes up its slower than dialup. Others in the surrounding work place having the same difficulties.

Any one else in the are or states having the same issues? Calling CSR but have spent 10 minutes on hold so far.
