My point for this type of test is that if machine bends easily, it could happen during transporting it, handling it not so carefully or slight accidents. Also very thin chassis tend to be "noisy", like keyboard or trackpad sounds are louder and hollow, all these cause machines like this feel cheap to me.
Well I’ve got two options:
1: be ridiculous and purposely bend my brand new $1800 laptop just to see if it will, and risk being without a computer for as long as it takes Apple to build me another one.
2: don’t purposely bend my computer, and if any accidents happen in the future, get it replaced through AppleCare.
I think I’ll stick with the second option.
As for the trackpad, I’ve seen one report on Twitter that it might feel slightly more hollow, but to me, it feels identical to the M1 MacBook Air, and much better than the 2016 MacBook Pro I had previously.
Not entirely sure even how much of a difference just the new machine will make in terms of trackpad feel.
I went through three different top cases on my 2016 MacBook Pro and all three trackpads felt very different.
The first was fine, the second felt extremely cheap and had a very noticeable gap between the palmrests and the actual trackpad that was quite annoying, and the third was flush with the palmrests and felt very tight and premium.
My new Air‘s trackpad feels completely perfect, I wouldn’t take single report issues like that as gospel.
It’s like people are trying to find flaws with this computer, just use the machine as intended. It’s a beautiful machine, you’ll love it.

Yeah, I guess you better not try that if you do not know how to do it without permanent damage.

I have myself done that to all of my laptops and never damaged any of them. Point is just gently do it, it does not cause any more bending force than what it causes if you lid open hold laptop with one hand from the palm rest area and lift it off the table, that is how much force I use when I do the "bending" test, probably even much less. However when you just lift it, you cannot really feel if it is bending or not, "the bending test" however gives you good impression if it does or not and how much and how easily it does so. But again, do not try if you feel unsure and if you do, do it at your own risk! Also never lift your laptops from the corner with one hand, always pick it up using both hands from the middle section of the sides, otherwise you are bending it as hard as I do in my "bending test". :)

I haven't got my hands on MBA M2 yet, but I just saw MobileTechReview of MBA M2 on Youtube (11.45 to 11.55 is where this shows in the video) and at the end of the test it shows how person is just gently pressing the keyboard area with one finger and it flex very easily. Also in typing test you can see chassis and trackpad area flexing a lot. Seems pretty similar how I test my laptop chassises to see if they are decent build quality.

This video at 3:38 shows scuffing around the port of the midnight after he plugged in his monitor once. Another thing to consider if that bothers you. Personally it’s a non issue for me.

That area is going to scuff, but there is no way all that happened after only one plugging unless he dragged it around the opening several times because he wasn't looking.

Here's my pic.... ;)

The OCD in me has the launchpad layouts the same. Also, the dock, mail folders, Finder Side bar and Menu bar

I'd rather spend a few minutes up front setting them up and never have to waste time looking for something

its a curse.... and a blessing
I would have to question the level of OCD in someone who has two monitors with different bezel colors. 😜

Im not OCD but I also set my new computer up the same as my old one so everything is easily located, and then over time I'll change things on the new one.

Someone was asking how the M2 compares to the M1 in terms of weight. With one in each hand, the M2 feels lighter and more balanced, presumably because the weight is spread-out more evenly across the base of the laptop.

Also, someone was asking about the chassis - it doesn't feel flimsy in the slightest. It feels like a very solid lump of (light) metal. There's no flex at all.
I have a 12” and even that feels heavier to me!

The monitors are identical... lighting?

I would probably be slightly ocd about two monitors with different color temperatures haha

Depending on how much I spent on the set up

No Notch and no wasted screen real estate to hide the notch, should you wish to. I just wanted to show how it looks with it hidden. The notch really doesn't bother me.

I finally briefly got to see and test one MBA M2. My first impression was, it is flimsy and not nearly as solid feeling as MBA M1. Most flexible MacBook I have ever touched myself.

Interesting, I was in the Apple store yesterday and that was a specific test, flexing them all as I had the chance to do it. I didn't find it was better or worse than the M1 MBA.

Yea. I installed it yesterday as as test because I wanted to see what all the hub-but was about with hiding this life-changing notch on a computer. lol I doubt it will silence any of the woe-is me-notch types but, at least they can see it is no big deal.
I only use it when I have solid white wallpapers, otherwise I don't bother worrying about the notch. I also use Displaperture to give the bottom rounded corners to match the top; heck, I used it to give my 2014 MBP rounded corners as well LOL.

Just received delivery of my M2 MBA in midnight, 8C/10C, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Original delivery estimate was July 18.

First impressions:
  • The midnight colour is SEXY as. Dark navy blue in certain good lighting and changes to black in other angles
  • Midnight is a fingerprint magnet. Every single touch will show up. That's what the polishing cloth is for right?
  • The Apple logo on the lid is bigger than the M1 MBA (I have a skin with a cut out for the logo for the M1)
  • Notch noticeable at first (never had the 14 MBP) but is starting to fade into the background
  • Feels thinner and lighter than the M1 MBA in the hand.
  • Substantially lighter than the iPad Pro 12.9" with smart keyboard
  • Keyboard feels great to type on, and the non-wedge shape angle is a non issue. It feels more tactile than the M1 keyboard. Aren’t they the same?
  • Speakers are directly under the screen now and not on the sides of the keyboard.
Will add more impressions as I start using it.

Some photos below. They don't do the midnight justice so pop into a store to check it out in person!

Awesome, congrats! And stunning photos as usual.
Can't wait to get mine but I ordered Starlight! I would've gone mad over the fingerprints (cheers!) 🤣

I have both.. there is NO difference...
How did you exactly test that?
I tried them both (MBA M2 and M1) on the table using the method I described earlier in this thread and it was noticeable difference for me in those two units I tried. I think if you just hold them in your hands trying to determine something like that it is pretty impossible to notice and also big risk that you actually damage them.
