Any of you guys experiencing this scuffed issue reported by 9to5mac?

Not me but, all Macs do that kind of thing. It isn't anything new. Some people notice more than others especially with a new release when people are spending an unnatural amount of time looking for anything at all to complain about.

It's a chameleon, to be honest, angles and lighting change the color so much.
It is a chameleon. I cracked the code I think:

  • Direct natural light = metallic dark blue*
  • Angled natural light = very dark navy blue*
  • Direct indoor lighting = very dark grayish blue*
  • Angled indoor lighting = almost black with a hint of the darkest blue can be before its black*
*Subject to change with the slightest angle adjustment. Still cool.

No, but I really think the Midnight is going to show them up a lot worse than other colors. I am going to be warier of putting this MBA in a bag with anything that could scuff it. Wasnt an issue with my space grey items, just that a scratch on this one is going to stand out in a big way.

Mine is fine after 5 days or so. I try to take care when putting cables in to the ports, but this is an issue with any Mac, its just more visible with non-silver colours.

I have thoroughly flexed and looked closely at both, there is no difference in my view when it comes to overall flex and strength. The only way either is going to get damaged is stress that no machine should expect to be put under intentionally.

I have no idea how you tested or if there is difference between production batches but the two (MBA M1 and MBA M2) I tried side by side at my local shop there was noticeable difference when I lid open tried lifting one corner while holding other down with my hand (both hands on the trackpad side). I could easily lift front leg off the table with minimal force while other 3 legs contact the table, so flex was from the chassis. Surely MBA M1 flex too in similar test but it needed more force. In the same test MBP 13" feels like a solid block, it does not flex at all with reasonable force, it is the most solid MacBook IMHO, even MBP 14" flex much easier.

This is a fairly reasoned comparison video.
You can similar thing what I mean in videos like in the above link. Check that starting from 0:58, you can see how the chassis bends in the middle very easily. My MBA M1 did not flex in that point so easily, actually I never even dared to use so much force that it would have bend in the middle like that.

After a week my midnight base model is going back, even the apple cloth struggles to get the fingerprints off lol, and it's winter here and fingers are dry and clean, can't imagine what it will be like in the humidity come summer.
I love the colour though but think SG is more practical. Wouldn't buy silver or starlight.
Also not happy that Apple have crippled the base model and am not wanting to spend $450AUD more to go to a 512GB when 8Gb also really needs to be 16Gb, then you may as well get a base 14" IMO.
1500/1400 reads is just lame. This video sums it up.
I'm out.

edit, I do have a 24" iMac so make the decision easier, may just get a 11" iPad for on the go which is faster lol.

Ah, you're just looking for excuses now. Don't buy one and move on with your life.
Sounds like you are avoiding a direct question and refuse to see the reality. ;)
In the linked video you could see easily what I mean, and as far as I know that part of the video was not even testing flexibility...

Anyway, I changed my mind on MBA M2 already and I'll order MBP 14" base. I highly appreciate quality feel of the machine and even MBP 14" feel flimsier than previous chassis versions to me, so between the two "bad" choices I rather take less bad. Also since the price is almost identical between MBP 14" base and MBA M2 16/512 the latter makes even less sense them.

Just get a refurb M1MBA when the dust has settled. There are going to be plenty of refurbs around I'm guessing.

Some additional pics of Midnight MacBook Air in more natural late afternoon light for reference:

In the age of Covid, why does Apple continue to have a love-affair with fingerprints?

They are an innovative company, but they cannot design this disgusting feature out of their products?
Fingerprints are not a feature and fingerprints happen on everything you touch. If you are going to blame Apple for something, at least make it logical and practical.

Do fingerprint marks spread it now?! Maybe Apple should require gloves, like little masks, for their stores to address this problem.

There was a tiny dot like that on the hinge of the refurbished M1 Air I bought recently. Apple does not specifically say they put new batteries in their refurbs yet my battery was not used at all. I’m wondering if my M1 Air was returned because of the dot. It runs beautifully and I can’t tell it wasn’t brand new from the assembly line…aside from the dot, which I never see now that I’ve completed my once over. It’s easier to accept these imperfections when buying refurb. I’ll probably continue to go this route because the value is so good.

Your return is going to make a refurb purchaser very happy! I can understand why you’re not happy with it, though, paying full price.

(As I’m posting this I haven’t finished reading through to see if you changed your mind).

isn't there a midnight color on the cheaper watches? are mid night and starlight colors for the cheap consumer centric products?

Yes it fades into the background.

Screen feels crisper and sharper than the M1

I need to know what this case/sleeve is!! Do you work on top of it as well, like you pictured it here? I need something soft and durable that I can rest mine on like you have yours in the pic - can't stand putting my laptop on any old surface (way too overprotective haha)

It’s the Bellroy laptop sleeve. And yes I work on top of the sleeve when I’m out and about or sitting at the table.
If I’m on the couch I use it without the sleeve.
