Hi,

I'm going for the 42mm SS watch and am in a bit of a pickle over which band to get. I am at uni and wear t-shirt and shorts everyday so was wondering if the milanese loop band will look too formal. My other choices are the black classic buckle or the black leather loop. I'm not so sure about the leather loop as it looks unusual but the classic buckle looks just as formal as the milanese loop. Help, which would look best considering I rarely need to dress smart?

Thanks

It's not possible to be overdressed. Ever.

I think the dressiness of a watch only matters at the most extremes, like wearing a thin dress watch with a black leather band in gym clothes, or a suit with a g-shock. Anything else can work. Any watch can be worn with a t shirt and shorts in my opinion.

I think you will want the SS with the Milanese band. Milanese is a great looking and classic band. I think it will need the shine of the SS to set it off.

Sorry if I just cost you $200.

Thanks for your honest opinion. Do you think it will look too mismatched? Tbh, I don't like the black mark on the Digital Crown on the SS case.

I'm picky I know!

I have a collection of very fine, 100% hand made Perpetual Swiss Chronographs.

In fact mine are so rare, so special, each of which are one of a kind, built just for me. By one highly skilled Swiss Watchmaker who spends twelve full months or more building just that one watch. No one else touches it.

If owned by some of my fellow collectors, the watches would be grandly displayed and never worn.

Yet even though I pay stratospheric prices simply to insure them I'd never think of letting them sit. Nor do I need a special occasion to wear them. They are mine to wear and enjoy, and that's what I do.

I don't care what others think and quite frankly I'm happiest when they go unnoticed. They are for my intrinsic satisfaction.

Can you pass me the Grey Poupon?

Yes, I think the connector pieces of the band will be polished and shiny to match the SS and not match the Sport very well. But interesting point about the crown. The SS is the only one with only one color crown, it always has the black crown.

But I suspect you won't be the only person going Sport and Milanese Loop. The Milanese is going to look good and be very practical. It is probably going to be the most comfortable band of them all.

Yes, Another Milanese Loop thread

I'm still undecided between the classic buckle and Milanese loop but the Milanese loop is starting to grow on me:

The Milanese Loop is only $149. Get both.

I spoke to an Apple store rep on Chat and she said if I wasn't happy with the Milanese loop (pre order) I would have to return the entire watch and exchange it for another with the band I want. Sounds all fine and dandy except that on launch day if there is no stock I will not be able to exchange it and who knows when they will have stock again.

The milanese loop for $150 seems like a better deal than a leather band for the same money. My 2 cents.

What model watch are you getting? If money is not an issue, why not order with the classic buckle and order the Milanese loop separately? No return needed if you don't like the band.

If they're out of stock simply purchase the band you want separately. The case is exactly the same anyway.

Exactly my thoughts. stainless steel band vs leather and same price? bring on the steel.

That's the thing though. I don't want to buy a 2nd band right now. Just the watch and the band I choose.

SS. It's going to be $699. I didn't want to tag on another $149 for a 2nd band right now.

Just buy it with the Milanese band, and live with it until the other band you want is available, or something else comes along that you like better.

Have you noticed in some of the hands on videos how the Milanese loop, where it doubles over at the top (or bottom depending if joined that way) of the watch and loops back on itself, it kinda looks a bit strange?
Sticks out a lot from side view? Especially on the skinnier wrists.
It's the only strap that folds on a hinge like that. It's put me off a bit.

Some in the hand-on videos wore it incorrectly with the loop through at the top. It's pretty flush when it's on the bottom, even on skinnier wrists.

Another thing dawned on me. I plan on running with my watch so I don't think the leather band is a wise choice. rather wash sweat off stainless steel.

The leather loop bands have that hinge at the underside of your wrist. Not a fan of that either honestly.

EEK! I have been worried that the loop will wrap all the way around my wrist and I will be able to see the end when I look down at my watch (like in this photo). My wrists are about 165mm and I'm leaning toward the 42mm watch. Im guessing that photo is the bigger watch on a somewhat smaller wrist. I will probably order the Milanese as an extra strap and send it back if it doesn't fit right.

42 for sure because size matters

We designed a docking station (we currently sell on Kickstarter- sorry, needed to mention it:))
Seriously, have been working on this project for a couple of months and we could only do visual testing with some mock-ups, best help were a couple of 1:1 scaled 3D printed versions of the 42mm one. We also compared with other smart watches and we think that the 42mm is at the limit, I mean in terms of visibility and size of the display. The 42mm looked even nice on my 12-year old daughter. Discussing the right band includes being firm on the size and I would always go for the 42mm.

If only they made either the connector or the entire thing in black SS

Thank you for showing this image. Now I know why these models do not exist. The left one looks like the watch equivalent to black socks with sandals and shorts, and the right one looks like it would cost a fortune to DLC so it wouldn't be DLC so it would just become a glittery mess in a short amount of time.

Not that I think its to formal for everyday use, but I can only imagine how easy it will be to snatch that off someones wrist. I myself am torn between the stainless steel case with the link bracelet, or the space black stainless steel. If I do go with the stainless steel, I will certainly getting the milanese strap as en extra one for "special" occasions.

I ride the train to work everyday and am worried about this exact thing. However, when I've watched videos on YouTube of folks trying the milanese loop on at the Apple event, it looks like the magnetic clasp portion does not go all the way through the lug. In other words, to get it on and off, you actually have to slip the loosened band over your wrist. If this is true, and it won't just completely open once the magnet is off, then that makes it a lot harder to swipe off someone's wrist. Anyone else notice the same thing?
