Basically a tip to everyone even if you're not planning to own this phone:

BUY IT. And then resell it.

That's really a reason to get it right away.
If you enjoy it - great, just keep it.
If you don't - well, another 10 minutes of your time and you've made a few hundred bucks.

No that's silly.
It's not necessary for one thing. Demand will be through the roof as it is and Apple wants to make as many $$$ as they can as fast as they can like any other for profit company.

It's not news. It's rumor.

Lol - this was supposed to be a play on words. Wasn’t supposed to be taken literally. Is this the MacRumors.com News Discussion forum? That means we both win, right?

The Blush Gold is a crap color, so I won't order that. So the line will be shorter on that one.
Yeah, but i think the mockups aren' t the real deal/color in which the real iphone 8 will ship.
Less brown, more gold.

Unfortunately, we'll have to set our alarms for 2:55am to find out true availability. But if the system reports "Delivers in 3-4 months." I'll cry for getting up so early for nothing then bail quicker than a Dodger's fan at the top of the 7th.

This, gets my vote for post of the day! Unfortunately I think that alot of us will see the dreaded 3-4 months with the new color especially, if we don't get our orders in by 3:02am, lol. :( I just hope the servers stay up and running for everyone's sake. I will be ordering mine through AT&T this year if I can figure things out with their app and website. I am starting my prayers now, please Lord, let me be in the first 2 shipments out. :D

They usually sell 70 million phones in this quarter and you are telling me they have at maximum, assuming production started in June, less than a million ready to go???? No chance. This has got to be wrong. I listen to Kuo a lot, but on this one I'm sceptical.

You guys fall for this nonsense every year. Wise up! It’s all a thing Apple does to sell more phones.

Each year they come up with an excuse as to why they are going to to be in short supply. Then you guys panic and hurry up and buy the phone. After that Apple announces they broke the previous years record for pre sales. And then Apple finds a way to meet the overwhelming demand.

You guys need to realize Cook does this to you every year. And you fall for it every year lol.

But an iPhone is worth a good couple of hundred bucks less the second it's been taken out the box. Try it out in the Apple Store.

Normally, yes, but when supply constrained at launch they an fetch a lot more than the RRP. Short window of opportunity though.

Demand will still outweigh supply, but usually Apple racks up 3-4M in pre-orders the first weekend a new iPhone goes on sale. Assuming the device doesn't go on sale til end of month (at the earliest), Apple will have ~ 600K in supply. We should also assume that supply will only increase and not decrease over the coming weeks, as they refine the manufacturing process.

Let's not forget with the 'new' 8 and 8 Plus, most consumers will still go for these devices. While us forum goers can more easily justify spending 1K on an iPhone, most consumers find $650 already very expensive, and likely won't go for this more expensive device. Estimating 3-4M of pre-orders, divided by all 3 devices equally (which is still unlikely to assume 1/3 of consumers will spend 1K on an iPhone), we're looking at a demand of 1-1.5M for the new Phone for pre-order weekend. That still outstrips 600K in supply, but it's not quite as bleak as this rumor is making it out to be.

Me thinks your numbers are a bit low. Although you might think a lot of people will be happy with the 8 and 8+, the frameless screened X, along with its other X-only features, is going to drive significant volume compared to the 8 versions.

As long as I can get a 256GB iPhone X in “black”, all is good.
If only that would be Jet Black, but I'm not holding out much hope. Thanks much, but no bland silver or puke-brown for me, unless that Blush Gold turns out way nicer than what has been speculated so far.

A gorgeous, lustrous, sparkling, metalic mid-blue would work for me, but alas, apparently not this year.

That "supposed source" is the person with the strongest track record of delivering accurate info before release. For many years now. Unfortunately, he is not the only person to have suggested a major delay.

I'm willing to hope he's wrong on this one, however.
If this were true it would make very little sense and spell catastrophe for apple, when you consider that the projected sales numbers for the X have the potential to be upwards of 40-50 million units... so even if apple had been producing these things for the entirety of the last 6 months(which we know they weren't), they would only have 1,825,000 units at launch...and at that rate it would take 11 YEARS to fulfill orders...this simply can't be the case

Has there been any restriction with preorders (units per person) regarding the last iPhone releases? I need to place an order for 5 iPhone X.

If these numbers are true (hell, even if the actual amount is 4x what Kuo is saying) then Apple is in real trouble. Volume is certainly going to go up over the next weeks and months, but to launch your 'premium' product with that low of supply is inexcusable.

Part of me wants to get in on the preorder, part of me wants to wait till they work out the first few production run bugs out.

Debating if I should try to order through the apple store app or ATT website. Doubt I'd be able to go to an ATT store that day and get one. I'm not waiting outside in a line for hours for a phone though

No hurry to buy one. It's just a phone. It really isn't going to function much differently than my 7 plus. Sure it will have an OLED screen and facial recognition, but in normal everyday use, it will function the same. Not to bad mouth Apple, as this can be said about all the android phones too. Very little change from one generation to the next.

I think if you go into an ATT store that day you will be waiting a few months to get it. I will be trying through the ATT website for the first time this year. Have you had any experience with this and if you have, is there anything I should know or look out for?

think will be ordering via EE on contract and will get the phone when I get it...will be good just to see what it does officially.

I expect them to work out the kinks in a new production method before moving their flagship product onto it.

And I expect them to not screw around with Touch ID on a flagship product until they figure out what they're doing.

The fact that that a new color causes difficulties for a company like Apple tells you how poorly they are organized.
Poorly organized. Glad you know the inner workings of a company trying to push the limits on technology.

Won’ t happen though, Apple ordered about 74 million of oled displays for this year, so...

This calms me. If they did order 70 millions forthis remaining 3 months, then we're safe.

I know it's not like this, but that averages about 24 million oled phones per month.

A paint/anodization color is pushing the limits on cell phone technology?

I doubt it, but if so, then Apple is poorly organized for being stupid enough to do that.

Stick to the apple store website, IMHO.

You seriously can't see beyond your own nose huh. Twist everything for your opinion to feel better. I'm done with this. No need to waste time trying to educate those who don't want to learn fact.

Well, at least I'm fine with any version of the X if the front bezels are always black. Hell, I could go with either the 128 or 256 gb versions too. I'm going to jump on the first one I can get.

Blah, you can always return your iPhone very easily to the closest Apple Store to replace your unit if something isn't right.
