He might be right most of the time, but nobody is right all the time.

I don't buy that Touch-ID won't be in the screen, and I especially don't believe that all three new models will start at 64GB, right after being upgraded the year before to 32GB. That's not like Apple, unfortunately.

Good question. The bigger question is this, what is the guys reputation? why don't Macrumors actually mention what the persons reputation is like by comparing what they've said vs. what eventually happened? regarding the issue itself, I doubt they'll remove it given it is an iconic feature that they're rolling out to all Apple devices and is also the cornerstone of Apple Pay.
Que gnashing of teeth, it'll be on the back....

I would be actually happy if this crappy Touch ID goes away. Doesn’t work 70% of the time anyway if your fingers are not perfectly dry.

Are you suggesting your fingers are wet 70% of the time? Because it works 100% of the time when the fingers are dry. And if they are wet, it doesn't work.

No 3GB of RAM in the 4.7 - deal breaker. Ask the 6 users how they feel about having 1GB of RAM running iOS 10 after trying a 6S with 2GB of RAM.

5S - 1GB of RAM
6S - 2GB of RAM

<wait for it>

7S - 2GB of RAM

Idiots. Looks like I'll be holding onto my 6S for a bit longer.

Im sure apple will fin a way to put the touck id beneath the display and it will be fast and accurate as expected. Otherwise the home button will stay where it is.

iPhone 8 with all new touch ID accessory ring.

*accessory ring sold separately

Touch ID has become an integral part of Apple's ecosystem. Getting rid of it would be very controversial.

Having a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world anymore.
Try using a Samsung or LG with the fingerprint sensor on the back. It's annoying as heck... especially as my iphone sits on my desk all day. No touchid = no sale.
Retinal tech is more easily fooled with a recent close up pic of your face anyway...

You guys need to show Ming some respect. If ya gotta ask who he is, you know you guys are new to Apple rumor site.

Been here for years and I've no idea who he is, mainly because I've learned to ignore analysts.

That just means you weren't looking at sources for all of the CORRECT rumors.
This person is one of the most accurate sources of Apple rumors. If he was ever wrong, it'd just mean that between the rumor and the release, Apple decided to change the product.

If he says no Touch ID on the screen, then no touch ID on the screen. This just means that they'll integrate touch ID into an oversized power button. ;)

Touch ID is needed for features such as Apple Pay and has also become essential in my day-to-day use (for unlocking, approving purchases on the App Store, etc).

If they remove it, they need to replace it with a similarly easy-to-use biometric authentication feature. Facial recognition and iris-scanning have been rumored to be part of the iPhone 8's feature list, so they might replace Touch ID on this device.

In all honesty, though, I don't see Apple removing Touch ID.

No, Mac Rumors had it wrong. KGI is only predicting the touch ID won't be embedded in the display or placed anywhere in front.

"We predict the OLED model won't support fingerprint recognition"

Hard to interpret that any other way.

Now, on occasion he hasn't been entirely clear with his language, so it's *possible* that could be the case here, but as written he's saying no fingerprint recognition at all.

1) He said no TouchID embedded in the display, not that there would be no TouchID at all. Macrumors are the ones responsible for the misleading clickbait headline, so perhaps you should be questioning their credibility instead.

To be fair, he wrote: "We predict the OLED model won't support fingerprint recognition, reasons being: (...)"
(emphasis mine)

So the bold part does support the headline. Now, the reasons being listed all refer to why TouchID under the screen would not work, so maybe he just phrased this badly and does not rule out TouchID elsewhere. Nevertheless, that is what he wrote.

I predict $ 1200 for the base model (with a 35 % partner program share for Apple stores).

I also predict no headphone jack.

Seriously, Macrumors slow news day?

I thought this was a legitimate rumors web site, not "random person with no inside knowledge just rambles guesses" web/blog posts.

The guy has been an analyst for what, a decade? He does extremely detailed research based on things like third party suppliers, general tech development and capabilities, etc. He has a really amazing track record.
