Are you suggesting your fingers are wet 70% of the time? Because it works 100% of the time when the fingers are dry. And if they are wet, it doesn't work.
Actually if you have very dry skin, Touch ID often doesn't work and needs to be retrained constantly. I've seen this with older people.

I took a trip in the desert and thrashed my hands. Touch ID didn't work consistently for almost a month.

As disappointed as I will be if the iPhone X purely relies on facial recognition, I wouldn't be surprised if this is true.

Apple will prioritise 2017 revenue and sadly, they're unlikely to delay the next iPhone until the technology is ready for mass release.

If this report is proven correct, expect under screen fingerprint recognition to be one of the launch features of the XS.

I don't understand why so many have a problem with the fingerprint scanner in the back. I got used to it in less than a day after upgrading from s7 to s8, and actually find it more ergonomic than having it in the home button.

Looks like I'll be holding onto my 6S for a bit longer.

The 6S is the best phone Apple ever built and will ever build. At least for the next 5-10 years or so. Just like the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro Retina are the best laptops they ever built. I'm not going down the cable madness route. Steve Jobs tried to get rid of cables, and Tim Cook introduced more cables than there have been with Apple products EVER.

I really hope this guy is wrong...how are so many software things going to work? Look at your screen to buy this in-app purchase..whoops, didn't mean to do that. Smile to authenticate Apple Pay. No thanks...

People are attacking the source, but it is MR you should be attacking. No where in his predictions did he state Touch ID would be left out as others have mentioned. Click bait headline.

Edit: after reading 9to5mac it appears KGI has said no Touch ID at all. Didn't see that same quote in the MR article. Who knows what the real story is here.

"OLED iPhone will adopt full-screen design, with the highest screen-to-body ratio of any smartphone currently available worldwide"

All those whiners can finally shut up about "dem huge bezels" now. They can also stop complaining about a lower res LCD screen, lack of wireless charging, etc. All the main complaints against iPhones shall finally be addressed.

Oh who am I kidding? *prepares for annual s**t storm come September*

Apple got rid of mag safe so I wouldn't be surprised if they get rid of TouchID.

They might use sensors from the iPhone 7 plus to map your face and use it as recognition and thus eliminating the need for a touch ID.

Having a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world anymore.

Wrong, 100% wrong. Having it on the back fails Apple's basic ease of use test. Putting it on the back is an advertising gift for Samsung. They be better off delaying the phone by 3-6 months IMHO.
Does it affect my buying choices? No as I'm not in the market for a new phone for another 18 months then I'll probably buy a secondhand 2017 model.

Say goodbye to unlocking your phone while it's laid flat on a table
I'm not singling you out personally, just using your post as a jumping off point because you imply TouchID will be moved to the back.

So what if does move, what do people want? If it's currently technically impossible for Apple to implement this under the screen what do you want them to do? Employ a team of sky wizards to fix it?

If they remove it entirely, perhaps going with facial recognition, people moan.

If they retain it, but move it to the back, people moan.

Please anyone who's moaned about this share with The World your solution that Apple has clearly overlooked (and no I'm not interested in blind optimism and wishful thinking that it "can never happen").

So is he saying that the "usable" screen size on the iPhone 8 is going to be smaller than what is currently on the 7Plus?
Cuz if that's true, that might be a deal breaker for me.

Unless Apple can get the embedded Touch ID working properly I see stock prices falling significantly:

1. Apple releases iPhone 7s model and delays "8" model until next year when yields are higher/working.
2. Apple releases iPhone 7s model and "8" model with no Touch ID.
3. Apple releases iPhone 7s model and "8" model with rear Touch ID.

All 3 of these scenarios would be considered a failure after all of the rumors about embedded Touch ID.

It's the very first sentence of his that we block quoted.

I would be actually happy if this crappy Touch ID goes away. Doesn’t work 70% of the time anyway if your fingers are not perfectly dry.

Maybe that's true for you. There seem to be some people that it just doesn't work well for, but don't speak for everyone. I've been using TouchID since it debuted, on 2 different iPhones and 1 iPad so far, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that it probably works over 99% of the time for me.

For me, complete lack of TouchID would likely be a deal breaker. Couldn't go back to punching in a PIN every time I use my device.

Again with the caveat of 'if this report is true', I really doubt that Apple will put TouchID on the back of the phone as some more suggesting.

Instead they will push this new 3D facial unlock as being the most advanced ever seen in a smart phone etc etc.

This being the case, a combination of Raise To Unlock and Facial Recognition will be how are you are advised to unlock an iPhone X (if you don't wish to use a pin code)

At least the Galaxy S8/S8+ have the FP sensor on the rear though, will give them the credit on that one since it didn't omit a popular feature. Plus, the FP sensor is "always on" versus that slide down to unlock/tap to unlock stuff in the S5 till the S7.

This makes no sense as Apple has just put Touch ID into their Macbook Pros. If they were going the facial recognition route then why wouldn't they have just put that in macOS instead?

Do you use Samsung pay? If so, isn't it weir to hold your phone while putting the finger on the back and get it really close to the POS?
As someone who unlocks its device while is resting on the table I'd find the sensor on the back annoying sometimes, but I could get used to it.
TouchID embedded into the display would be awesome though, putting it on the back would look like a compromise, "we tried to put it under the display but didn't manage to, so here's the new location..."

I thought this was a legitimate rumors web site, not "random person with no inside knowledge just rambles guesses" web/blog posts.

I've read that most analysts have about a 5% success rate for predictions. This guy is closer to 50%. Which is why he's often called the "most accurate Apple analyst on the planet."

So half his predictions miss the mark, but close to half hit it. Which makes him fun to listen to :)

It's pretty clear that he has insider information from factories (and some people think even from inside Apple).
