That is complete BS!

Ive been following WWDC for many years now and hardware is always part of the program if they have new hardware to debut. The reason is pretty simple really - developers - WWDC is all about getting developers onboard with the latest tech. If that tech is hardware they will debut it at WWDC. It happens year after year. The few times there has been no hardware debuted, happened because of either time constraints or no significantly new hardware.

Beyond that a good number of developers in the Apple universe are hardware developers. These people are just as interested as software developers in Apples new hardware. Seriously guys where did this idea that WWDC is only focused on software come from? It is rather focused on developers from all areas of concern to Apple customers.
Wwdc is software only they dont have time to talk about hardware

Throw the A9 into the Mini 4, and A10 in the Pro line, and we have a deal!
They could do that, but they could put it in the ipad mini 3(slightly thicker, like the new 9.7 inch cheaper ipad) body, drop the laminated screen, put in the same a9 chip, and sell it for 279-299.
To up the ASP' s they could then drop the $599 9.7 inch ipad pro, and release a $699 10.5 inch ipad pro, and maintain the 12.9 inch ipad pro.

Apple has primarily strayed away from releasing hardware during WWDC. Last year, It was actually rumored that the second generation Apple Watch was going to launch during WWDC and that never happened. So I question the validity of this rumor at all, being that the developer conference is primarily the main focus.

Apple has hardware at WWDC most of the time. Think about it, WWDC is about getting developers to adapt to the latest tech. Often that tech is hardware related. Beyond that there is much that happens at WWDC that is oriented towards hardware developers.

The few times Apple has avoided hardware at WWDC is when they didn't have any of significance or simply didn't have time for it. Think about it a bit, software developers write software for hardware.

The other thing Apple does commonly is to dump minor spec bumps in the last couple if weeks before WWDC. This has happened a lot with Macs, especially when Apple was phoning in the model updates.

There is nothing to think about. My point is they're not releasing any new hardware in the sense of iPhones, Apple Watches or iMacs. I'm not referring to any incremental updates or developer products. I'm strictly speaking main core products that we see refreshes for at least twice a year, which WWDC has primarily abandoned those fashions due to how the developer conference is focused.

How how many analysts have predicted core products that were supposed to launch during WWDC and were completely in accurate.

Hmm still not so.d on an iPad only 0.8" bigger then my Pro? Guess we'll see, as for these speakers with screens.. I guess they'll make good bedside devices? I think it's something I would need to use to see why they exist?

I can't wait to see what my next iPad will be like. I'm not in the market for one currently, but eventually I will replace my 12.9 inch iPad Pro. So I will be watching!

Apple has a long history of announcing new stuff at WWDC. Especially stuff that needs developer support.

My question is where do the Macs stand? If new Macs are released in the next couple of weeks they could very well be minor bumps. If Apple waits till WWDC we could be seeing major hardware changes that impact developers.

Past history has Apple dumping minor Mac upgrades just before WWDC, especially if they have new products to debut for WWDC. New products could be the speaker or AI tech in general. Im also thinking Apples GPU will debut which could explain the current speculation around iPad and the lack of an X variant SoC.

With iPad people get too hung up on screen size. Screen size is often dictated by screen technology, that is the bezel is there to support the non visible hardware. What is of greater interest is what is driving that screen, this makes Apple GPU very very interesting. WWDC could focus extensively on Apple GPU this year if Apple expects to phase out all Imagination GPUs in two years. Frankly it would make lots of sense to debut on ipad to shake out the hardware and give developers time for the coming iPhone.

Interestingly i just had this flash, what if Apple licensed AMDs tech? This would block Imaginations lawsuit fairly effectively and frankly would give us better GPU tech.

Apple generally like to have hardware at WWDC but a new screen size is hardly something to focus on. If they do anything it will be to show off new capabilities within the hardware.

Then don't think about it as a new iPad. Instead think about it as a new SoC that is a big step forward. Remember WWDC is about developers!! If they in fact have 10nm chips in production that means a big jump in capability. Capability here meaning die area to implement new functionality. What functionality? How about AI hardware via its own subsection or integrated into the GPU? Maybe we will get another CPU core.

That still would not justify iPad at WWDC. Especially with the rumored Mac overhauls. Expect something ground breaking if iPad is the star of the show.

I don't know if we will see Mac's maybe slight updates to the 12" MacBook but the new iMacs I expect in October time. I don't know why the 10.5" iPad Pro will be announced at WWDC the rumours of it only have it slightly bigger than the current 9.5" iPad Pro and with a bezelless design, why they would announce it at WWDC I'm not sure

We will find out out in a few weeks time but normally iPads are reserved for September or October time, they have never appeared at WWDC.

a new bezel less ipad without iOS11 to be released? hard to believe
but i hope for the introduction of the new pencil support for the upcoming macOS and only force trackpad macs compatibility
MacOS is being abandoned in favor of iOS. iOS will be "matured" into something that can handle 95% of people's computing needs. The other 5% can move to Windows if they wish.

That will be fun keynote to attend: especially for those of us who are iPad fanatics... To me the 9.7" iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil & Logitec keyboard is absolutely fantastic.

I am also hoping for a 4K AppleTV -- if they are announcing the Amazon Prime Video app at the keynote, for sure they will be announcing a new aTV as well.
Don't you wish it had a windowed interface like a Mac though? Having lots of apps open at the same time and not needing to fully switch between your two "favorite" all the time?
[doublepost=1494714277][/doublepost]The Echo Show (and its upcoming Apple competitor) are nice, but they are only interim products, if you think about it. When you look at the Jetsons, does George Jetson ever crouch down to interact with a tiny 7" screen????? No, a large panel usually drops down from the ceiling, and an argument, I mean a video call, ensues. Well, drop-down screens are probably very far off, but you know what isn't? A large screen in your kitchen/dining/breakfast area. Almost everybody I know has a 17-40" TV in their breakfast area or kitchen, and it is a diiiiirty shame that it is 2017 and you really cannot get much computing use out of those larger screens, unless you are a total PC geek that is, and know exactly what you want to hook up to them. The Amazon Show is SURELY going to morph into a real TV at some point, so I say it would be wise for PC makers to beat them to the punch, and add just-in-case (concealed) full desktop PC-functionality in as a differentiator/bonus. This feature acknowledges the fact that most people do not actually use a desktop PC regularly in the home anymore, but wouldn't mind having one around as a just-in-case PC. I think this apparatus would sell very well, since it would be a real TV, an Android/iOS streaming device, a deeply integrated voice assistant, a video phone, AND a concealed full just-in-case Desktop PC at the same time. I really don't understand why everyone is marching toward the future so incrementally, when the tech is NOW there to make a TRUE all-in-one entertainment machine/assistant. (P.S. this is a concept sketch I made years ago, the cheeky mouse-pad/screen protector is not needed on counter-top only models, only on more "transportable" units. Also, the bezels need not be nearly so large!).

Well I got so sick of waiting for Apple to get Siri working on my ATV4 in New Zealand that I gave up.
I now own 2 "kodi boxes" from China that say they can do 4K (not that I have anything to test it with).

The cost me NZ$60 including shipping.

Siri works on my iPhone, it works on my Mac, but not my ATV4.

will I buy an Apple watch, no, the one I got for my 13th birthday (40 years ago) still works fine
will I buy an ATV4, no, the Kodi boxes work fine
will I buy a new iPhone, no, Cheaper Android phones are now good enough for what I use them for
will I buy a new MBP, no, my 2011 with an SSD and 16GB works fine, there is no compelling reason to upgrade and when I have to, I think I will give Linux a try (and I HATE the new MBP keyboard with a passion)

Here's the thing, all this stuff in now a commodity , there is not actually much between the various option, there is no radical innovation happening anymore, being 0.1mm thinner than the last model is not innovation, having thinner bezels is not innovation , ALL the stuff the actually matters is already there.

So, like so may other products, we have met the point where competing on price/quality is the main difference.

I agree. The whole point of the speaker devices with far-field microphones (Amazon Echo, Google Home) is that you just talk to them and they talk back. If I needed something where a screen was necessary, I'd use my phone or tablet. There's no point to put a screen on something like this where I'd have to walk across the room to get next to it to see a response.

I'd like to see a MUCH improved Siri and person/voice identification. So if I ask it a question, it knows that its me and it can push a response to my phone or watch. "Siri, look up so-and-so on Wikipedia" or "Siri, look up some-movie on IMDb". Then I can grab my phone, unlock it and Safari (or an app) will open immediately to what I asked for.

Exactly. They could even make it so that for certain queries which required a screen, pop up on an iPhone.

I love and have the exact same setup. I use it for school and it largely negates the second-hand 11" MacBook Air I borrowed to supplement my bulky 15" rMBP.

I don't have a 4K TV but I'm conveniently holding back until Apple releases their 4K Apple TV

hmmm will be interesting to see what they call the new 10.5 inch iPad. Seems weird that they're presumably introducing a new size to the line before they update the 12.9 even though the 12.9 is what NEEDS an update and not the 9.7. Maybe they're replacing the 12.9 line with the 10.5?

Maybe Apple is going to replace the 9.7" line with the 10.5".

Or they are going to give a preview of IOS 11, with new ipad only features. OR they are going to launch a specific Ipad OS.( PadOS?)
OR they are going to give us new features for this ipad, that doesn' t need an IOS update.
So a new smart keyboard with a trackpad?? And in app trackpad support for text intensive apps?

In simple terms. Yea. They must have something of a game changer planned for iPad Pro since they will preview it at WWDC..

That'd be stupid, in my opinion. The 9.7 size is perfect and has stood the test of time. The 12.9, however, has widely been criticized over its impracticality and gaudiness. I have a feeling the 10.5 will simply be an addition so that there are 3 pros.

I think the iPad Pro 9.7" may get a price drop to $499, and then the iPad Pro 10.5" could end up at $599 or slightly higher.

I dont get it. A touch screen with Siri capabilities? Isn't this just an iphone that sits on my desk?

What am I missing here folks?
I would not be surprised at all if Apple rolled out this new iPad and positioned it as a portable competitor to Echo Show.

If this does happen, the big news will have to be improvements to Siri though. Siri as it works now just isn't ready for an application like this.
