Unless it's done by reservation only, I see early lines and pushy scalpers in front of Apple stores from late November thru the holidays.

I believe the last few releases have been reservation only. Apple is trying to move away from the campers (many of whom are scalpers that can grab multiple phones and leave actual users in the dust on launch day).

I would bet there will be limited pre-orders every day once it comes out - just have to constantly look online for available pickup or use one of those sites that tracks stock (there were a few that I used to grab AirPods with pickup from store option).

This is gonna be a tough wait.

I'm still not convinced that Apple's release strategy this time makes a heck of a lot of sense. I know they got themselves in a pickle, and had to "zag" with this release, but…it's still weird. The 8 and the 10? But the 10 is a staggered rollout? I know they would've gotten killed if they'd just released the 8, and teased the X for next year, but still. I wonder if they've gone a bit over their skis.

Anyways…

I had a 7. And when I saw the keynote I was 100% sure I was gonna get up at 3am on Oct 27 and do what I've done sine iPhone 2. I was gonna get the X!

But the more I've read, and the more I've thought about it (and also since I'm on the upgrade plan) I decided to just get this 8 this past September, and then I'll get the X…or X.1 or whatever…next September. Figuring they'll have whatever supply and design kinks figured out by then. For the first time in my life I'm weirdly okay with not being on the bleeding edge.

I really like the 8 by the way. It's kind of like the new MacBook in that it's mostly the same…but a lot tighter, faster, and solid-er.

Exactly what I thought would happen. The "S" model equivalent will be out next year 2018 correcting all of the annoying issues this model has like the screen bulge dipping into the display, Maybe a virtual home button, maybe put back the earphone jack. The future isn't adding dongles, So all of the cords are hanging out connected to it.

Always a few steps backwards with this new Apple.
The notch won’ t go anywhere for the next 2 years, perhaps it will be smaller/thinner, etc. But won’ t go. Sometimes I think people would be more satisfied with a 5.6 inch and replace the notch with a full size bezel, or that apple would have the sides of the notch blacked out by software. (Could still be an option).
Let’s face it. The notch is the same as the antenna lines or the camera bulge of the 6. People hate(d) it, but it somehow defined the iphone 6/s.

According to quantum theory there is a parallel world where the iPhone 8 was called iPhone 7S.

In that world supercycles align properly (with even years).

There is another parallel world where Apple TV remotes still have one button -- and are usable.

Actually you won't enjoy all of the A11 bionic loveliness because you don't have the facial recognition on the 8 plus. You do realize this right? Do you also realize next year upgrade to the X will only be a spec bump? You should have just gotten the X now.

This is exactly what you'll get: faster processor, better speakers, better wireless, marginally better cameras, new iOS. Have fun waiting a year.

Did I know that a phone without the TrueDepth camera system, wouldn't be able to use features that require the TrueDepth camera system? Erm yes. That's TrueDepth loveliness, not A11 Bionic Loveliness.

And yes, I do realise that the XI (11) will likely have those things, making it better than the X, with the added bonus of having resolved the issues caused by having to rush the X out.

And.... from reading about problems with yield, it appears most people will "have fun waiting a year" to get their hands on the X anyway. I'm more than happy with my choice. I'm on the Apple Upgrade so I'll just get the XI next year, like I said. Zero issue for me.

Nice way of deflecting talking about productions issues and rushing to complete the X etc, making it sound as if it’s something people shouldn’t get and next year version will be much better, but it won’t.

Skipping the X this year and buying an 8, only to buy the upgrade to the X next year makes little or no sense. Nice attempt to justify your purchase decision.

Makes perfect sense actually, which is why I’m doing it. As for justifying my purchase decision, please don’t flatter yourself by thinking for one moment I have any need to justify my purchase to an internet nobody.

I dont' really care. Long as I get my preorder done in 10 seconds..lol

It'll take apple that long to issue out bug updates and for other software (3rd party) to take advantage of it. It's not a big deal to wait and have fun with iphone 8 plus. The clock is already counting down to sep 2018. It's already less than 12 months ownership buying the X. Not that I will wait but I can understand if others do.

You don’t need to justify your purchase decision to me. You’re justifying your purchase decision to your self by telling yourself it made perfect sense to get the 8 over the X this year and then get the “XI” as you call it next year. You’re telling yourself it makes perfect sense on the internet for everyone to see. But it doesn’t...

Next year upgrade to iPhone X will have iOS 12. New OS, new bugs. So if anyone is waiting for Apple to iron out the bugs, it’s just stupid because there will always be new bugs with each iOS released.

Yep, that’s exactly it. I’m such a weak person that I feel every decision in my life has to be endorsed by a group of faceless internet people.

It’s more simple than that. I justified my purchase to myself by, erm, purchasing it.

Although, that is very likely something you will find very hard to comprehend.

Not just bugs but features. Wireless we're waiting on. Apple music for watch. AR stuff will take awhile. If you want a bigger screen iphone X, then you should wait. This is just first gen stuff.

Huh? If I want a bigger screen iPhone X? I’m not sure you’re following. I have no qualms with the iPhone X, I think it’s perfect. Like I said, with every new product and iOS, there will be bugs.

If there had been a first anniversary edition iPhone, it wouldn't have been the first one, it would've been launched in the second year. You're confusing a tenth year with a tenth anniversary year.
No I'm not, your maths are wrong; the post I replied to was insinuating the iPhone X will not be available until 2018 therefore:
2007 - Introduction
2008 - 1 year anniversary
2009 - 2 year anniversary
2010 - 3 year anniversary
2011 - 4 year anniversary
2012 - 5 year anniversary
2013 - 6 year anniversary
2014 - 7 year anniversary
2015 - 8 year anniversary
2016 - 9 year anniversary
2017 - 10 year anniversary
2018 - 11 year anniversary

Not too hard to work out.

Notch must be a full size bezel
[doublepost=1511426166][/doublepost]Notch must be a full size bezel, there is nothing wrong if it is not 100% full screen.

No, it is just not very advanced. 100% screen is the main goal, this is a step in that direction.
