Software designs stay inside one corporate headquarters, Hardware designs are sent to a different continent!

Wasn't one of the main features of iOS 4 multitasking? I'd call that a pretty major development, and I believe it actually required them to change quite a bit on the backend.

Also: most of the major software features in iOS 6 (FB integration, Passbook, etc) had been leaked prior to WWDC last year. This year we know significantly less other than rumors of iRadio and maybe Airdrop. I think it's safe to say there will be plenty to be excited about come Monday.

I bet someone/few people at Apple HQ's are having good laughs about those two discussions (Both 7 and OS X banners).

I am excited about Monday, but it seems pretty silly how a simple "7" can spike so much discussion and hype. And of course all those people deriving full on theories about what is going to be introduced Monday based on the banners.

PS: Still patiently waiting for iOS revamp. Its long overdue.

The funny thing is, a lot of people just seem to think that it took a graphics designer instantly to think of this simple design, but coming from a design background I bet this design took a lot longer than anyone would imagine. Most of the simple designs take a lot longer.

I bet during the designing of the banner their was a lot of talk of what to do. A lot of designers and people in general over think designs the first time around. It's just how the human mind works. Then after several revisions they arrived at something this simple.

Knowing Apple they more than likely hid quite a bit of meaning into this simple banner.

Update: The 7 appears to be from Helvetica Neue Ultra Light, an extremely thin variant of Helvetica.

I doubt it. They've only been working on it for a year. It almost certainly is only new icons.
