It's not just wood, it's certified wood. Wowser!
Certified wood.... I get that at the strip clubs!

In the video he says that's the cherry cover. It's natural cherry wood, which starts out light and ages dark over time. Also the cover is available in walnut, smoked oak, padouk, mahogany, and cherry.
I dont know much about wood. But for you people out there who know:
Which of these wood types above would be the easiest to sand down and stain black. I am not a fan of mixing wood + electronics.. i just dont like the look. But I LOVE THE DESIGN of this case.. no hinge to scratch my iPad (the way Apples smart cover already did!!!!!!).... I would totally replace my black iPad smart cover with a stained black wood cover by Miniot.. even if I have to do the sanding and staining myself...
I would go with the padauk or oak. If you plan on staining, I believe the stain is called ebony and I'm not sure what results it would produce do to the grains, so you may end up with some ebony wood looking finish, which would be pretty cool.
If you're looking to go solid black, I would look into acrylic lacquer or automotive lacquer and it'll give you a flat to high gloss finish depending on how much you sand between layers. Lacquer is traditionally used to finish Japanese sword sheaths. If you're just looking for an easy process, you can use black spray paint and then a layer or 2 of clear protective spray finish over that.
I'm hoping the Miniot cherry comes in at least a satin finish so I don't have to put in any extra money\work.
Woah! AWESOME! I didnt expect to get such a good response so quickly... thanks for the info... looking online now to see how much this whole process would cost me... and i was definitely looking for a solid flat black look! So acrylic lacquer it is... or.. do you really think spray paint wont look too bad??? (i know nothing about wood and nothing about paint)

RadicalxEdward has a very valid point about lacquer being thick. I'm used to using it on isolated things. I would maybe go to a local home depot and see if you can get some small pieces of those wood types and try out the spray paint and stain options to see how it turns out. Or, perhaps email Miniot to see if they're willing to do a custom black finish for you.
I emailed them already but no reply yet. I would be willing to pay some more for a custom black cover. If not, spray paint it is. Hope it works. I'll be sure to post pics when I finish.
Miniot website can't handle the traffic and isn't responding to shopping.
I have an email in asking for pictures of the other types of finishes.
They do have a picture that pops up with it showing the roll up stand that was shown in the video.
Last question is, where are you guys ordering these?
I wonder if their site was hacked. I just googled "miniot" and the first hit is their page, with some very interesting keywords below the URL.
Just went to their site and they are now available.
They are directing you to an ebay store with some of the options now available.
I am waiting for mohagany but they have cherry, walnut, oak, padouk.
I think it's odd and the OP takes me as someone who may work with them. Either way, the site seems odd.
