This is the message I get when doing the above command:

~$ sudo apt install libicu71
[sudo] password:
Package libicu71 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Error: Package 'libicu71' has no installation candidate

Which tells me it didn't load with Arcticfox, otherwise it would have (maybe) indicated it was the newest version. It also explains why AF isn't working.

What might be another source?

Thanks,
MM855
I thought I had this package in the MintPPC repos, apparently not.

Do the following:
Code:
wget https://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian-ports/20220511T014732Z/pool-ppc64/main/i/icu/libicu71_71.1-3_ppc64.deb
sudo dpkg -i libicu71_71.1-3_ppc64.deb

Now try to run ArcticFox.

Launching AF from Terminal shows similar resuls:

(arcticfox:1293): Gtk-WARNING **: 13:53:54.039: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "murrine",
Segmentation fault /usr/lib/arcticfox/arcticfox

I will have a look at AF in MintPPC64 later myself. I am updating some stuff in MintPPC32 first. I am also building ArcticFox 47.0 for MintPPC32.

The AF fix at this time, isn't as critical as trying to get my Airport Extreme card to be seen by the OS. Card Stats:
Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4320] (rev 03) exactly like the one in your Airport instructions.

Saw this when I ran

lspci -vvnn | grep -A 9 Network

Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge
On a whim, I decided to # out ALL of the Debian repos and only left the MintPPC64 repos. I then tried to install firmware-b43-installer and got the following error:

Errors were encountered while processing:
firmware-b43-installer
Error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I then did "modprobe b43" and received no feedback (should I have?)

Attached is terminal output when attempting to launch Libre Office. I am continuing to explore MintPPC64 for other issues. I've researched possible solutions however none of them have worked so far.

I tried AF in MintPPC32, I also received a segmentation fault...
I sent a bug report to the developer:
I spoke with the developer. The problem is the newer version of fontconfig. Upgrading from 2.16.2 to 2.17 and 2.17.1 makes ArcticFox not startup anymore. There is nothing I can do. I don’t want to keep an old version of this package in my repo and block further upgrades. I like SeaLion better anyway, so please use that instead.
When I have time I will look into the airport issue.

Good call! SeaLion is pretty nice especially with the Mintification.

Just wanted to say thank you!

Recently followed your directions after dusting off my Quad G5, the system works great. Sealion is a great alternative especially with Adblock installed. I did go off on a tirade trying to compile ArcticFox 47, getting closer. Main hold-up I think is Python 2.7.18, although getting ORBit compiled was quite a run around as well.

Let me know if you need any help or want to trade tips.

Make sure you have the following entry in /etc/apt/sources.list:

Code:
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-ports unreleased main

Then do the following:

Code:
sudo apt remove firmware-b43-installer b43-fwcutter
sudo apt update
sudo apt install firmware-b43-installer

Enjoy your airport card

Hi,
I made a fresh installation yesterday with some problems I informed on mintppc forum. I'm also getting problems to run Arctic fox on G5:

ArcticFox does not run anymore, I reported it to the developer. Please use SeaLion.

Does the airport card work now?

I performed my routine monthly verification install, this time with MintPPC32. There's a problem with some dependencies, as shown in the picture. The installation can be continued, and after completion, the system works. I tested it on a MDD dual, 2GB, a Radeon 9100 128MB, and a SIIG SC-SA4M12.

Thanks, I will look into it myself and fix it hopefully.
I see the problem already: libpeas1.0-0 is no longer available in sid. I will add it to the repo. This also applies to MintPPC64.

A better solution, which I will try first, is to rebuild xed against the newer libpeas1.0-1.

Xed is selected for install as it is Linux Mint’s lightweight text editor. I like this program very much.

Today's installation failure on G4. No problems on G5 👍

@eastone Thank you for testing those installations!

When I have the time I will have a look myself. It looks like MintPPC32 doesn’t install at the moment. It fails at bootstrap stage already. If that is the case we can only wait. We’ll see. I adapted the banner on my site from green to orange.

MintPPC32 is installing fine. It has not completely finished yet but it went beyond bootstrap.
I don't know what went wrong in your installation, maybe a temporary problem with internet ?
