I do like the glowing logo but at the same time like how the rMB looks. It would be cool of they had just the outline illuminate.

Is anyone missing the Apple from their mac?
No I think its fine obviously it's symbolic and that's gone now but it was still a good move from Apple. They did it in an intentional move to mark the change in design. I think it makes it look a lot more modern than the glowing logo but it would be cool if they could somehow make it glow around the sides of the logo that would look even better.

I believe that the lid would've had to have been thicker to accommodate a translucent, plastic logo. The MacBook's ultra-slim form factor prohibited this.

Agreed. It's for hipsters in coffee shops.
No it was an intentional design move. There is not much of a difference in size that is a misconception made by people who think there is a special light driving the lit logo. The change also reduces display damage that could happen in that spot.

What would be very cool and also actually useful, would be to replace the glowing logo with an OLED panel. Those things are so thin (flexible) that it seems like you could layer one in with virtually no increase in thickness, and since the display can retain its contents without power, it wouldn't use much battery.

Then you could use it to display things like battery level, alerts, etc., or more essential stuff like a picture of your dog. :)
