Best part of 5 years, the next gen Evolution isn't due till '07... it WILL be due a drastic change by then.

wrc fan said:Yeah, it would be great if it were AWD, but when you compare it to most other 2WD vehicles in it's class... I was thinking it would be great for the local rally series here in California (CRS Group 2). It's 220PS which is like 217HP, I believe (just did a quick search on google), and depending on the weight (which I wouldn't imaging would be excessive in such a small car.

Didn't know that would make 5yrs, so I suppose after a stint like that it is due, I guess. I love the current ones though....iGav said:Best part of 5 years, the next gen Evolution isn't due till '07... it WILL be due a drastic change by then.![]()
iGav said:220bhp is really about the limit for a FWD car (not my words) even then you need a trick limited slip diff to keep it in a straight line (something I'm not sure the ST has, although it's RS predecessor did).
If I was looking for a 200bhp FWD hatch, I'd be tempted by either a Mégane Renaultsport 225, or an Alfa-Romeo 147 GTA... the former because Renault know how to make their cars go, the latter... because of the Lamborghini Muira aping interior and have you heard one???![]()
I'd ignore the likes of Honda's Civic Type-R (lack of torque, oil tanker esque understeer, OAP image), SEAT's Leon Cupra R (too old) or Golf GTi (hairdressers car).
belvdr said:Whatever that means.... Is this something a teenager would understand? I mean Mitsubishi also makes the Lancer, and it's no hot car. What does "Its [sic] a Mitsubishi, nuf said." mean?

What about the MINI Cooper S?wrc fan said:Why are all the cool cars in Europe? Grrr! I'm moving there as soon as I can
Seriously the best current model hatch you can get here is the VW GTI VR6 with 200hp. Then the only other options are the Civic Si (160hp), Mazda 3 (160hp), and the Focus ZX3 (136hp). Everyone is FWD, so if you even have the option of an AWD or RWD hatch then you got us beat.

belvdr said:Ahh.. gotcha. Couldn't quite figure it out..I really don't mind the Mitsubishi cars, like the Gallant. I used to like Mazda, until they partnered/were bought by Ford.
wrc fan said:Ah sorry, I forgot about that one. I just wish it had comparable HP to the GTI. In all other aspects it's a fine car.
We do. But truth be told it's cheaper to do the same mods yourself.iGav said:I take it then that you guys don't get the Cooper S Works?
devilot76 said:What about the MINI Cooper S?I love mine and while it's not that quick... you can add a little here and there. Besides, I would make the claim that it handles better than a stock Si or Focus. What I would really love, is the classic mini conversion w/ a Type R motor dropped into it! Moo ha ha ha... a monster. Oh yeah, and the MINI one (diesel version of BMW's cooper but not available in the States, suprise surprise) has a great turbo kit that makes it a good deal faster than most Cooper S's out there while still having over 30MPG.
I wanting!
Trust me, I wish for the same. The saddest part? There is very little weight that you can shave down.efoto said:The only thing I don't care for about the CooperS is that it is quite a heavy vehicle.
devilot76 said:Trust me, I wish for the same. The saddest part? There is very little weight that you can shave down. That's why I wish I could afford some 15" wheels to replace w/ my stock 17"ers that are sooo heavy (the runflats don't help w/ the weight
). W/ the 15s it would be much lighter and I'd have such snappy acceleration. Just gotta save up... forever.

You'll be looking forward to next year's Mini CSL with carbon body panels then?devilot76 said:Trust me, I wish for the same. The saddest part? There is very little weight that you can shave down....

Hmm upon second look... nah, I still don't like the way the new evo looks, still prefer the current/older body style. But hey, there are ways for people to drive fast enough in the States. Road trip to Montana? Highway 5 (really long, straight highway stretching through California)... and of course, track days.efoto said:If so, that is pretty sweet, although perhaps overdone for the states where you can never drive fast enough to need something like that. I does give a rather sweet rear appearance though![]()
Latest from Autocar is that the CSL will get lightweight body panels most likely the bonnet and roof and that they're still deciding whether they'll go carbon fibre or aluminium or a bit of both.iGav said:...I've heard about that one too... now are they really using carbon fibre for ALL the panels or just the roof like the M3 CSL?...
